Wanted to try a different method to seat a stubborn tire bead. Just to see if I could.

Well done! I fully agree about the dish soap. Aluminum rims should look pristine inside.with no corrosion but not the case when liquid dish soap was used. I use it to demount tires and then fully clean the rim, install new tire with RU-Glide. Have used much larger bicycle tubes with a twist/lap.

I get that people use dish soap and water mixed because they aren't going to have real tire lube on hand. But yeah it can cause problems down the road. I tested straight dish soap on a steel bar and even without mixing it was showing rust the next day.

Great idea thanks!

Great idea! I get the nobody to help you part. I was the lone mechanic at a plant on third shift. You need to be creative and sometimes "build" your own helper.

That is an ingenious idea ,that obviously worked

OBVIOSLY most over used word lately.

Back in the day, we had a solid rubber ring that was only good for 14 and 15" tires. Your demonstration was perfect, especially filling the "outertube" . Way better than using ether too! Thanks for sharing this video, great idea 👍

Hello, Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge. As I have gotten older, I have been more of a DIY. Every cent saved is a cent earned. Also, there is a sense of pride and peace of mind in knowing that you did the job right.

You are welcome. I did this just to see if it would work. Might take a few tries as you may have to adjust things a bit. There are some other methods you may want to check out on youtube.

I somehow deleted the comments from Moi-et-toi: I gave up trying to seat the beads on 4 new tires for my car. I ended up at a tire shop. There, they used a 'Bead Blaster', which simply sends a huge amount of air into each tire in milliseconds. I like your method simply because it's pure genius. I have four other new summer tires that have to go on rims, so I'm going to try your solution. I'll let you know how it goes. My reply: My tire machine has a blast feature but I wanted to see if this method would work. Might take you some "playing it by ear" like I had to do. Gotta find the right balance of pressure to get it seated and still get the tube out. You can also try pre-stretching like maybe several 2x4 pieces sized to force the tire open I am testing on an 8-inch tire off the rim and an 8-inch tube inflated inside to puff it up. Letting it go overnight to see if the works.

Thank you for taking the time to educate us. You my friend are "one smart cookie". Your commonsense approach is easy to understand, and I REQUIRE both of my young adult sons to watch your channel. Young folks today need to learn some BASIC skills that older people learned as a part of just growing up. Keep your tips and tricks coming and your channel will grow. Thanks Again. "HP"

Thanks. Wish I had seen this before taking on these Silverado tires. The strap method almost didn't work and I didn't want to get a bead blaster. Simpler = better kzfaq.info/get/bejne/na2maLCG3ci1Y5c.html I now have a 16 & 14 inch tube on standby.

Another trick is to use a car tire innertube. Inflate it inside the tire and let it expand it for a while then remove and mount.

@@thetinkeringold-timer6934 I didn't know they were still making those. Most wheels have been tubeless for a long time

@@richbinaz You can also use anything suitable to stretch them open. Some pieces of 2x4 etc.
