Always remember to check any type of marking tool to ensure that it will come out of your fabric.

Thank you for the really informative video. Just what I was looking for - the information was presented in a very appealing way, no fuss, no unnecessary delays. The sciency approach to put fabric in the freezer put a smile on my face :). Greetings from Germany

I used Pilot Frixtion pen on cotton blue fabric when I iron it cause I didn't want it to show ,the color of the pen which was red went off BUT it turned into white mark and I had to dab it with water and then it was good .

Thank you for sharing. I just bought some Frixion pens to mark the first quilt I’m trying to quilt. My eyesight isn’t great,so I thought I might could see the pen. I’m going to iron them away and then I thought about washing and then pressing it also. Not sure if that’s over kill or not.

I love using these but have had a couple of times that ti left a white line. Usually dark fabrics.

Yes, that can be a problem, Betty. Seems like there isn't a perfect marking tool ;)

I have used Frixon pens since they came out. I love them. However, I used the black pen for Santa Claus’s face on a wreath I was hanging on my door. I pressed yet and the markings came out. Then I put the wreath on the door and as soon as Santa got cold, the markings reappeared. I ended up putting Santa on my back door which can be seen from the street. Since nobody comes in that way, they can’t see it that closely and notice the markings. I wish I had used something different because it can’t be washed. My mother would have said, “A man on a galloping horse will never notice it! “

Yes, the marks definitely do come back with the cold, so that would be a concern if you were hanging the quilt in an unheated area - like your door! I love your mother's saying - so true!

I don't know much about fabrics and quilting, but I have done one thing of interest to this topic. I got a piece of wood, a dowel, about the same size as a common #2 pencil. I put it in a pencil sharpener for a second, then in one minute sanded the tip a little duller than the pencil sharpener created. I use it to make some marks. To remove those marks, which are faint, but visible, I remove them by rubbing with the flat of my hand. I think an iron, even a cool one, will remove the marks as well. Still, I wonder, can you not make the marks with chocolate?

The freezer, what an idea. My freezers (2) are as full as my stash shelves . However, an empty freezer might work!🤔

LOL! I wasn't actually storing the fabric in the freezer, but this would be a genius idea ;)

I have heard that if you use steam in the iron, the mark won't come back in the cold. Has anyone tried this?
@Chatterboxquilts
@Chatterboxquilts 5 жыл бұрын
I've found that the marks come back in the cold, but once you iron them again (with or without steam), they will disappear.

Thanks for the reminder to use the iron to erase on my fabric, I forgot all about that. Just used the iron and like magic, disappears.

Which FriXion pens washes out with water? I'm making a Shirt and I mess up a lot and I want to wash it off as soon as possible so I can start over. Can you please let me know as soon as you see this post? It would be most APPRECIATED

If using a hot iron doesn't take off the marks, just wash the project after you're done and the marks will disappear. I've used the "regular" FriXion pens as well as the gel ones and haven't had any problems with either.

I have experimented with these pens as well. Be careful using them on dark colored fabric as well as the gold toned Oriental fabrics as they will always leave a mark - even after hitting them with an iron.

What happens if you wash the item that you marked? I have a Frixion pen ordered so I will experiment with it.
@Chatterboxquilts

You should remove the pen marks first with your iron and then they should be okay to wash. Always test them out on a small piece of fabric as they can leave white lines on dark fabrics but these remove with water.

Sometimes the pen ink will remove the fabric color, leaving light lines in darker fabric.
@Chatterboxquilts

Thanks for advising of this, Linda. I haven't really used them much due to the fact that the Frixion pens don't come in white, so I tend to use other marking pens/pencils for dark fabric.

I think the ink is oil based, so it's pretty much permanent. I use regular pencil leads and chalk.

I just got a message from a customer that the marks had come back on an embroidered bonnet. She picked it up on a -40C day. Hopefully they’ll steam right back out but I had a heart attack over it

Yes, they will go away again once the bonnet warms up. You can also wash or spray away the marks and they will disappear. I can imagine that it gave you a scare!

I have not tried this but I heard if you rub the white lines with a little rubbing alcohol they will disappear for good. You might want to use a test piece before using it on your actual project.

Thanks for the tip, LInda. I'll have to try that. Yes, always a good idea to test any product on scrap fabric before using it on a real project.
