Wearing a blazer with jeans is possible. But there are some rules to follow in order to get it right.

Same in Germany. The problem being that the Jeans are often "deconstructed" and pre-faded, the dress shoes are tan, the shirt is by "Camp David" and the blazer is a black, shiny Hugo Boss or Ralph Lauren.

That pocket square makes your outfit. Replaces the tie.

I think ties with jeans are really cool if done the right way. Yesterday i had a pair of dark blue jeans, a striped shirt (red and white), a light grey cardigan, a Prince of wales light brown with darker brown and red jacket in flannel, regimental tie with military stamps in navy/darkgreen/beige and a pair of dark brown suede tassel loafers. Super cool. Elegant? Obviously not but that Kind of “relaxed heritage elegance”…I Love it

My dad’s input - ‘it’s ok to go unshaven if you are not wearing a tie’(in other words, you have to shave if you are wearing a tie)…. (Unshaven is not same as having a proper beard)… So with jeans and jacket you can even go unshaven.

Sound advice. This was my go to look in my 20’s, paired w/ a tweed w/ dress boots or linen w/ loafers. Now I no longer pair jeans and sport coats. If I’m wearing a sport coat, I don’t go any less formal than smart chinos. If I’m wearing jeans, a safari jacket is as formal of a jacket ( that can be worn in doors), that I’d be willing to go. The jeans and SC is a solid look no doubt. I’ve just moved on from that look.

Nice one. I wore a jacket with jeans exactly like that throughout my late 20s and 30s. My father's saying "clothes dont fit a man, a man fits clothing".

For general knowledge: In Britain and some other English-speaking countries, a blazer is a totally different item to a (suit) jacket Blazer is more like the thing you wear to school as part of the uniform

I like it, as long as it's worn over a COLLARED shirt, or maybe a turtleneck. The biggest offence is blazer over a T-SHIRT!

If you are an architect in a beach community, you can wear a tie with a blazer but, you must wear reading glasses on your head and have a fountain pen in your shirt pocket, and a small sketch book in your coat pocket.

Absolutely true I used to wear my SuitSupply suit jacket (Washington fit) with jeans and a many times a knitted tie when I was first starting out. It's a very elegant VBC and doesn't match with a casual bottom at all. One day my waitress asked me, "you're dressed up! What's the occasion?" I said I just like to dress like this. She gave me an awkward look and left. After that experience I found a dark navy windowpane sportscoat (Tagliatore) with zero padding in the shoulders in a textured flannel that goes absolutely perfect with a pair of jeans and a more casual shirt. Nobody ever since has said I was over dressed or asked "what's the occasion?"

Be careful on the bow tie. They’re a real turn off for a lot of people. If a salesman shows up in our office wearing a bow tie, the receptionists politely inform him that he can come back when he loses the bow tie.

Skip the tie, wear a cravat. There was a time when gentlemen who conceded to denim in place of corduroy or chinos, would not allow their bare neck exposed even in the most casual setting outside a bedroom.
