Today, we're crossing the Canadian border with our camper as we make our way back to the East Coast. The rules on foods change frequently. Check frequently on rules in and out of Canada. We were stopped because our dog food bag was unsealed. Same rule on the way back to US. Has to be US dog food. We also travel with 2 Aussies. Red bi and red Merle.

You didn’t get to see his scowl 😆 but I’m sure they are instructed to be extra serious. It was just a funny interaction in comparison to our only other border crossing experience where it was all smiles. Overall, a smooth experience though!

I agree. Iive in northern maine 3 miles from border. I have crossed hundreds of times with my fifth wheel, as a tourist and when driving a tractor trailer. JUST ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

As a Canadian who spends my weekends in the US I am staggered and amazed they let you in so easily after you told them you were coming from Mexico. That's usually a *huge* red flag! I highly recommend never volunteering any information while crossing the border in either direction because Customs sometimes put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.

Yep - I have no idea what this guy is complaining about. I have had aggressive/disrespectful border security on the US side but just kept calm and answered the questions and got through just fine.

One thing that you did not bring up and does trip up a lot of Americans entering Canada, is that pepper spray/mace is prohibited in Canada. As a rule, Canadian border officials are straight forward and easier than the US officials.

When I was OTR trucking, I stopped taking Canadian loads. Canada was easy. I usually crossed at Kings Gate, Idaho....The Canadian border people were always pleasant. Getting back into the US was a pain in the ass.........I just got tired of the insulting aggravation.....

It's not the getting into Canada that's tough, it's getting back into the US! Going into Canada, we had two children sleeping in the back of our motorhome, they didn't even look...... I handed them their passports, but they never even looked at them. Coming back into USA was lots more questions, looked over all passports, vehicle registrations, dog immunizations.... all of it! Good luck!

From the RV videos I've seen, I have noticed that the US campsites r mostly close together with very few trees. In Canada, most of our campsites r huge with tons of trees surrounding the sites. Niagara Falls is beautiful, have a wonderful time exploring part of our country.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of the sites at Elora Gorge! Some campgrounds in the US are like that but often much tighter so it was definitely nice to see!

Wow, I have lived in Canada for over 60 years and have yet to hear a Canadian say "eh" as a matter of course. I do however frequently hear it from American visitors...lol.

The "eh" is an eastern Canadian thing. Out west you rarely hear that unless you listening to someone from down east.

"Huh" is not the American equivalent of "eh"? "Huh?" is just a lazy way of saying "Pardon me?" I think the functional equivalent of "eh" is more like ""Right?" or "Ya feel me?"

Instead of throwing out the veggies or eggs, you could cook them and freeze them. Once it's prepared and cooked as a meal it's ok to carry it frozen.

As Canadians who Rv in the states we quite often get serious faced US. Border guards too. They frequently have checked we don’t have people hiding in the trailer to sneak into the USA.

Ok - Canadian trucker here - this will help if still in the country - all bridges are marked - sort of - meaning - you want to see 4.1 for your type of trailer = good to go. If the bridges AREN'T marked - they're greater than 4.1 and you don't need to worry about them and if you see a 3.9 sat good-by to the top of your trailer. All hydro wires in are supposed to be 4.1 or higher. Oh and if you don't have a schedule - drive to Quebce City - it's like going to Europe and Quebecers take their Rving VERY Seriously and have amazing campgrounds.

I’m Canadian and live about 5 minutes from the Bluewater bridge. As crossings go he was pretty easy on you. I know a few security agents and it’s a very serious job. You wouldn’t believe the oddballs they come in contact with. You were prepared, had your paperwork ready and did everything correctly. Great job👍

thanks! yes, overall a very smooth crossing, we were happy to get to skip "secondary inspections" 😆 We had a great time and met wonderful people on our trip, hope to spend more time visiting one day!

i can tell you are very young I use to cross in to Canada at the blue water Bridge and in detroit from 1966 to 1989 and the Canada Customs were 1000% nicer

@@dknowles60- Things were different for sure. We were crossing into Detroit around 1996, driving from Toronto to Chicago. All I had was a driver license for identification. No passport or birth certificate. It would have been a turn around and drive three more hours back home. Instead, the American border guard gave me heck and let us in. Not today! We love to do road trips in the US and we are all lucky to have such good international relationships, but remember your passport!

Any border whether by land or plane you will always have serious patrol. They have a huge job to do. Nothing about it is friendly. As a Canadian who has travelled lots, it’s always the same

I live on the Sarnia Canada , where you entered Canada, trust me it's way worse going into Port Huron USA, often checking our trunks and grilling us. You got off easy as hell!

I'm originally from Sarnia but moved away about 40 years ago. I can confirm that even back then it was pretty much the same story, the US border guards were always pretty hard-nosed about stuff. That's why it was always such a relief to come back home. I still remember the day I checked out a porno theatre in Port Huron with a few friends. When we got back, we encountered a female Customs officer at the checkpoint. We told her where we'd been, and then, with a smile and a conspiratorial tone in her voice, she said, "Did you bring back any toys?" She was referring to sex toys, which were illegal in Canada at the time. We all broke out laughing and said, "No". She chuckled a bit and waved us through.

I used to go to concerts in the States up until covid and was always nervous dealing with US border guards but I gave up going over there, not worth the hassle. Cheers

They were in the truck lane because that’s a Bennett Trucking RV hauler. The Oregon transporter plate on the back of the RV. They’re commercial and therefore use the truck lane.💁🏻‍♂️

the border guards intentionally try to make you nervous. it's part of their psychological profiling. if your flustered you are more likely to give yourself away if you are smuggling.

A good tip for crossing the border is only answer what they ask you, don't add anything extra. When he asked if you had any guns just say no, don't add I left them at home LOL. When you cross back into the US you might want to go down to the Peace Bridge at the end of the QEW. Bigger crossing with shorter wait times and you can go straight on the highway.

The gun thing??? what if you say just NO but they pull. you up and it shows you have a CCC? then you just lied. Its better to says yes I own one but I put it in storage before we crossed. So you do own one, but, but no its not in your possession.

When I was in the Air Force we drove through Canada to get to Alaska where I was stationed. When we went through Border patrol they asked “ where are your weapons?” Love your. Idea. Met you through Open Roading. 🌅🌅

That was not mean ! I went to the US a few years ago, I was held up at the Fort Erie boarder for about 4 hours and fingerprinted than let me go to Pennsylvania. I still dont know why all the hassle !!!!

We had our 5th wheel searched one time going into Canada. It was 4th of July and young agents I think were upset about having to work that day. They found a gun lock in one of our drawers that we had gotten free at an RV rally and kept wanting to know why. Explained that we did not have any guns with us. They searched every cabinet, etc. and asked if they brought the dog would he find anything. I said no. What I forgot and could have been a problem was I had a Ramset fastener tool in my cargo bay and the .22 cartridges that it uses and the dog would have picked upon them! Had our grandkids with us and sat outside for about 45 minutes while they did their thing.

At least they didn’t empty your truck out! Around 1966/7 the US border guys emptied our station wagon completely out. I remember it was dark by the time they finished. Mom was NOT impressed! My parents had 5 kids & a dog, the youngest was 3yo. And we weren’t ‘Klingons’…Mom had to keep telling us to stay close! They emptied it and they walked away so my parents (most likely just Dad)had to repack! We were camping & had a tent trailer. I can’t remember if they opened it. Thankfully my hubs & kids never had that happen! We next go down to the States next October with a 5th wheel so….

Great video as always. My family and I will be crossing into Canada next Friday and just wanted to double check that we have everything needed. A little KZfaq search and your video popped up. It's eased my mind a bit especially because we'll be crossing the same bridge and ironically taking our 36ft TT to the same camp ground. We've lived in Michigan our whole lives (42) and never took a RV over so im a bit nervous with foods and such. Thanks again amd keep the great vids coming

We almost bought a Brinkley for my wife's upgrade (traveling medical worker), but held off figuring they need a couple years to work out all the kinks. We ended up with a Reflection, but all in all both are great rigs. Sorry to see all the weird issues you have been having. We lost our fridge on the first trip. Every one of these things is built like crap. Its kind of crazy.

We crossed the Calais border into Canada. They were really nice. We must of talked with them for like 5 minutes. No one behind us and on the way back the same thing. They did ask where we were going but you guys went through a very busy crossing.

My favorite border crossing is the ole Calais crossing, don’t get stuck being Re routed to their new border crossing facility there, it takes forever to get through and such a hassle!

Hi! We live in Buffalo (WNY) area (62 years). If you haven’t crossed the border yet, use either the Niagara Falls one or Lewiston. Those are not as busy as Peace Bridge. It’s always easier to get to Canada than coming home. Don’t be surprised how much they will give you a hard time coming home to USA! One of the questions they may ask is if you bought any liquor in Canada (you are allowed to buy it cheaper in Canada and bring it back here. Depending on how long you have been there, is how much you can bring back.). Also, the easiest place to get wings will be Duffs on Transit Rd in the Eastern Hills Mall. Plenty of space to park your RV, and in a good neighborhood. Also, it is only a mile off the 90 Thruway exit. Actually Bar Bills is right by here as well as (a close empty parking lot as well) and Anchor Bar is also right here by the exit as well. We would love to meet you two if you are interested in lunch/ dinner.. Message me!

Well, we did end up doing the Peace Bridge Crossing as we read it was the biggest (for big rigs) but it was quite busy! overall went smoothly though. Thanks for coming along!

We almost always get the rv searched going into the USA, especially the fridge. It was really interesting when he wanted the fridge opened but the area between the guard booths were too narrow to open the slide wide enough.

use to drive semi to Edmonton and going into Canada was easy but coming back home to the U S our boarder patrol treat truckers like crap you get X-rayed then about 25 % of the time they unload the whole trailer and then scale it out again to make sure they did not reload it wrong and we have to pay cash to cross back into my own country just gotta basically fine us to come home

A good thing is if for whatever reason you can’t take something in and you don’t want to discard it, you can turn around and go back out and go the way you can get another way to get to where you want to go.

Nope, if you attempt a border crossing and elect to turn around the border agents register your actions and it’s shared with all points of entry, just discard it, it’s not worth getting flagged at the border, it also effects your travel to other countries you may wish to visit. INTERPOL makes note of flagged remarks from all border agencies.

That hitch is actually the one we have! A PullRite Superglide hitch. Been using it for over two years since we first set out on the road and love it. It's great since we have the short bed truck, would highly recommend it if you need a slider hitch!

Actually, he pronounced _"Poutine"_ rather well. If he ordered it in Quebec, they wouldn't think twice about it. Although, they might raise their eyebrows if he said "Eh!" after it. That's more of an Atlantic Provinces' expression. I'm surprised to hear that poutine is sold in Kitchener! It's mainly a Quebecois dish, but there are some restaurants in the Toronto area and East of Toronto that sells it. Quebec has some restaurants that sell mainly poutine. You can get lots of variations of it. The best that I've had was. Boeuf Bourguignon Poutine. 😋

@@wildrvlife Quebec is beautiful! In fact, Quebec City is one of the most beautiful cities in North America. It's definitely the longest continually inhabited city in North America. Being fluent in French, I nearly moved to Quebec. Either Montreal or Quebec City... but the whole province has something to offer. If you go, I recommend the late Spring through to the end of the Summer.

If you get poutine in Quebec, try the version that adds chopped Montreal smoked meat on top. Delicious. And while you are at it, get a couple of steamed hot dogs w mustard and “Chou”… that’s coleslaw. Enjoy.

That was the smoothest crossing into Canada I've ever seen from an RV'er. I'm Canadian and when I come back home we get grilled harder than that lol! Pretty fortunate they didn't make you do secondary inspection, you had horseshoes stuck up somewhere that day lol!

Part of the attitude of the Canadian crossing guard was possibly Craig's southern accent. We were over the road truckers and had a load going into Canada. We went through the truck lane and you get out of your truck and they x-ray it then do an inspection. We were then told to go to an office and they verify your paperwork. Well as we are walking out we are accompanied by 2 guards. The female told my husband to take his hands out of his pocket in a very aggressive voice though it was nearly freezing at the time. Then as we get to the truck we are asked if we have any weapons on the truck. We told them "No." They then asked "So you don't have any guns on the truck?" We repeated no. Then they asked if we owned any guns. My husband was confused and asked "What did it matter if they weren't on the truck?" I was wondering the same thing. We told them we had some rifles back at home. Then the guy searched our truck again while the woman gave us the evil eye. They found nothing of course and let us go on our way. We delivered, picked up our next load and headed back to the U.S.A. We had been told that getting back into the states would be harder. Nope they just said "Welcome home." Later we were at the closest operating center to where we entered into Canada and there were frequently Canadian drivers there. One guy came up as I was talking to a couple of other drivers telling them about our story. He told me he had been in earlier when my husband was up and heard us talking. He told me that they profiled us on his southern accent and that many Canadians think that all southerners are gun crazy lunatics. We just discovered your channel 2 days ago. Enjoying your travels.

Oh wow! Yeah, I definitely don’t think Craig southern accent helped much but thankful we managed to get through with a pretty smooth experience overall. We had a similar experience as you when crossing back to the states, which you’ll see on Sunday!

Canada has a serious problem with illegal guns being smuggled into Canada and this is why the border guards are so focused on and serious about whether you are carrying any guns, regardless of whether they were illegally acquired or not. Many Americans make the mistake of trying to bring their guns into Canada thinking that the Second Amendment applies in Canada. It doesn't, as Canada is a sovereign country and has different laws. Americans can bring in their guns for authorized purposes such as hunting or sport shooting, but they have to have the proper permits arranged ahead of time before crossing.

i can see spraying wd 40 on the slide plate to clean it BUT, did you put some grease on the slideplate for the friction thatt the 2 make? i use the blue lube grease for the slideplate, the same that is used for the buddy bearing or the the axle bearing, . in the past i noticed a trucker using NEVER -SEAL LUBE ON THE SLIDEPLATE! THE BEST IS THE AIRCRAFT LUBE MADE FOR THE FIGHTER JETS LUBING POINTS. APPLY WHEN DRY?

Kitchener is really lumped in with Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge and sometimes Guelph. It's 4 cities that are very very close with near to no distance in borders. Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge even all share a single transit system. The population is somewhere around 580K. You happened to wander into the city I live in.

Generally the guards are nice but we’ve had a few over the years that have a real chip on their shoulder…you’re lucky you didn’t get one that asked you to spit your gum out…it can happen 😅. By the way…we Canadians feel the same way going into the US 😊

We went to Canada in June. Three times the agent asked us if we had a concealed weapon. Finally i realized the issue. I said we had our conceal carry permits in NC but we didn't have our guns. He moved on.

@@wildrvlife - Yea, Canadeh's west... Alberta and British Columbia are very beautiful as compared to the central (flat) parries. There's great hiking and lots of freshwater lakes throughout. So if you enjoy boating/canoeing/fishing, you will have much fun.

I live in Michigan and we cross back and fourth to Canada and that a very normal experience when crossing the border. Also I love you truck. I had a 2023 with the same paint and it was totaled in a accident. I cant get another one like it unfortunately. They don't offer the two tone in 2024 models. I miss my truck so much.

It use to be very easy to cross into Canada just show your drivers license. They use to want the people from USA to cross and spend money there but they do not seem to want that anymore. Some of the crossings now have a USA border stop before the Canadian and they will ask about guns, etc so you do not cross into Canada with anything. Hope you guys have a great time there. We use to cross a couple times a month at least but not anymore, we instead started going to Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, there is awesome fishing in the south west corner of Wisconsin and bluffs and valleys to hike. Hope you guys stay safe and healthy.

Yes, they are imposing US check points just before the Canadian borders, they want to confiscate guns, money, food stuffs whatever before the Canadian agents get to them… this is very real people!

We cross at the Soo when we go to Canada on vacation, and the Canadian customs officers are always polite.

My only experience is in the western states/provinces. Normal questions entering Canada are license plate number, guns or other weapons, $10k cash or more in cash, cannabis, alcohol, tobacco. I switch my vehicle from mph to kph and back while I'm in the line waiting to cross. Never been asked about my dog but proof of rabies is all that's required when entering Canada out west. Eastern provinces may be different.
