Former governor general Michaëlle Jean says Canada can play a leadership role in a security intervention force to help stabilize Haiti in collaboration with police teams from other countries in the region. 'They do have the experience and the expertise, but they can't do it alone,' she said.

This is a very intelligent comment ….I believe tho her rebuttal would be to use other formerly French colonized countries to do that heavy lifting …..Canada would just fund it ….if Quebec was independent (and IF it was a rich country) then her strategy could potentially carry a lot of weight geopolitically speaking

90% of montrealers have a close Haitian friend ….the Haitian community in Quebec is strong and very well adjusted compared to their native homeland populace. With that said ….I 100% agree with your comment , I don’t think Canada should get involved…..I do believe Quebec provincial govt should due to the cultural and linguistic ties….but Mrs Jean should move wisely with that agenda ….it could easily turn into failed colonization….but if done correctly (and she does state the reasons how it could be successful) it could be a massive plus for both countries….Canada has been so destroyed by Trudeau that these type of risk/reward situations actually look half interesting …..and that says a lot about the state of OUR Country

@@lexd9619 'if done correctly'. With the evidence of how canada has sent weapons, ammunition and funds to ukraine in what was obviously going to be a losing cause costing the lives of many ukranians and destroying a nation. With evidence of the handling of the war in gaza with the US position 'and by proxy our position' of backing isreal against the palestinians. I am absolutely certain it would not be handled correctly. In fact I am absolutely certain any involvement from canada or the US will only make the situation worse.

What is the UN Security Council doing? Why does Canada need unilateral involvement? It's hard to get a sense of the scope of this request based on this interview. The former Governor General makes clear the kind of support being sought. Why can't the UN Peacekeeping apparatus supply what she is describing? Where is the well funded, self-righteous UN in all this? Sorry to say it, but why should Canada step on this potential land mine? All we need is for something to go wrong in connection with Canadian police, military, politicians, or other volunteers, and then Canada gets blamed. Canada gets accused of neo-colonialism, or some other buzz word of the moment. Guaranteed that if something went wrong, member states of the UN will come after Canada. The groups in Haiti the GG references as "criminals" are going to accuse Canada of colonialism, etc. Why wouldn't they? Some people would buy into that, and our name is mud. No, let the UN and its self-righteous membership take the lead and any potential liability. They avoid this situation because they fear the consequences. Canada should try to help Haiti by pressuring the UN to send help.

This is a very smart perspective and well explained with logic and rational !! But her idea is not crazy ….she is just in the wrong party and wrong country to do so …..if she was PQ and Quebec was it’s own country ….this sort of involvement would make a lot more sense ….anybody west of valleyfield would not benefit from this social project
