The CAF need to rethink and update it's Defense posture, find it's identity as a whole, and invest in the gear that will allow for them to perform up to the standards of that posture , also they need to invest in modernizing some of their legacy systems that will help them in their new posture for example what they did with the LAV 3 upgraded to the 6.0 series can also be done with the AVGP's these can be refurbished and upgraded (drive train electronics sensors engine armaments) the Cougar can swap out the 76mm if needed to the 57mm or Israeli 60mm with complementary atgm's or aaws(Gustav AT4 etcetera) RWS medium the Grizzly can be upgraded the same but with a 20mm RWS combo (atgm or aaws) the Cougar can keep the 76mm but add autoloader stabilizer better sensors etcetera and an atgm medium or heavy(preferably medium like the Javelin) these can be fielded in an RDF capacity creating Brigades that have both amphibious and Airborne capabilities that can be deployed in short notice . The CAF (Navy) need at least two carriers (light or medium) along with LHA'S or LHD's both csn be ex USN organized into two Fleets one Atlantic one Pacific and one Reserve (this is only in an ideal world where Canadian politicians have common sense) or fleet composed of LPD's ( Like San Antonio Class or the Karel Doreman Class) and LSD's (like the Canterbury of New Zealand) with the larger leading these strike groups as part of larger alliance Taskforces. Basically the CAF needs to carry it's weight when it comes to major operations without having to piggyback off of the US or other allies (think of Aircraft Carriers amphibious forces to name a few) the Invincible Class exRN would have been great for the RCN especially since it's getting the F35 a high low mix of Harriers and F35's would be used by both RCAF and RCN like the RAF and RN. The CAF deserves better from its politicians that's all.
