The numbers on the cost of living in Davao are consistent with what I and my Filipina wife spend. We live in a gated subdivision with a pool, shop once a month at S & R, use verious forms of transportation, use medications for several conditions (prescriptions are expensive), etc. We are not party goers, however, and we are frugal with our utilities, internet, and phones. We do find inexpensive things to do, and we shop at street markets often for fruits and vegetables. We are also gardeners. Money is not an issue with us when it's all said and done. Look us up if you come to Davao. I am a retired professor of bioethics and preaching pastor in several of the largest churches in my denomination in the USA. I have a permanent resident visa. Life is good in Mindanao and cheaper.

@@thaidawg9231 Yes, but they most likely are more expensive than the 20,000 PHP we pay per month. We found a really good deal In Oct.2021 in our gated subdivision called Diamond Heights near the airport. Other rentals are available in our area, and you have a pool too. The people are very friendly. We are having a house built outside of Davao.

Hey Paul, this is not related to this video but it's something maybe you could comment on. Paul from The Philippines Info channel just posted a video about Medicare in the Philippines. He's trying to get people to contact congressmen about expats getting the ability to use Medicare outside of the country. He said that it's something that we've all paid into all our lives and we should be able to use it. There have been some interesting comments so far and I thought maybe you could weigh in. If you could add a comment to his video it would help everybody concerned. With your healthcare background, you might be able to add something, pro or con, to the discussion. I like the countryside but not to far out. The Davao de Sur area would be my choice. Between Digos City and Davao but certainly not further out than Leling / Hagonoy region. A few sand beaches around and although rainy not prone to typhoons. Earthquake are an issue throughout the PI but having grown up in California and working in Alaska for 22 years that’s nothing new. Being a Big island Mindanao offers a lot to explore also. The tough areas are the western portion of the island mainly as far as violence. Islamic and communist militants can cause issues from time to time but quieter than Baltimore and Chicago.
