Western cops in Alberta are cool (I worked with many), BC and Saskatchewan are hit and miss, Manitoba, especially Winnipeg - dinks, Ontario and Quebec - too much ego all the time, all looking to climb the ladder. Eastern Canada cops - very chill, laid back, fair. I was posted across the country and dealt with most major agencies.

Canadian police forces have both traffic sections and patrol sections. Traffic section sole job is to give out tickets, thus always getting a ticket. Patrol sections do "other" police work and find traffic tickets below them and not worth their time going to court, etc for them and will let you go more often.

Unless you are doing something overtly reckless, or intoxicated, generally they just let you off with a warning. Maybe ticket if they have pulled you over twice for the same thing. I got pulled over for not making a signal because I was in a rush because I had some explosive diarrhea . Not only did I only get a warning, he gave me an escort for a few blocks until he had a call or something. Not saying every cop in Canada is a beacon of benevolence. From what I've experienced though they are LEAGUES away from the US cops. I'm also a white dude, so I could be biased lol

Not my personal experience in Nova Scotia. The cops here are straight up aweful trash. I was once stopped by a cop for turning left. He eye balled me through traffic while I was waiting at one red light and he the other side of the red light to my immediate left. When asked why he was stopping me he had no reason. Straight up aweful people on power trips.

Well heres the thing about policing.. each situation is different. Sometimes you stop a car and its two harmless guys on a demo drive who just surpassed the speed limit for a moment. Then in other situations its some rude guy whos acting weird who also happens to have a warrant for his arrest. Do some cops overstep their authority or go on a power trip ? yes. But then again every time a cop has to be not so nice doesn't mean its not warranted. If you drink and drive and run down a pedestrian the cops probably wont be telling you to take your wife out for dinner lol.

About 10 years ago when I was in Amsterdam there was a group of 5 motorcycle cops. I asked if we could have a picture with them and one of them jumped off the bike and had me and my buddy stand between them sitting on their bikes and took a picture for us. It was super nice.

Having said that, I know that Canadian national standards for gaining entrance and training are some of the highest in the world.

In Canada, Unless you are in some bad part of Toronto or Montreal, the two cities with the largest black populations in the country, and where the police have the most interaction with that minority (3% black people in Canada, not much interaction for 90% of Canadian cops, you probably end up always meeting the same ones, if you live near a high concentration of other black families...) You could switch seats and get the same result. A FINE, or a straight to jail if you are drunk (like the white friend in the Chappelle bit...)... No freebies for color, or anything else. My brother is ex-RCMP, I was in the car with him when he got a speeding ticket from the RCMP in BC. The guy looked at him like he wanted to arrest him, when he tried his I WAS IN BEFORE, GIVE ME A BREAK! Routine. I'm SURTE there are exceptions, bad coops, racist ones,, etc. BUT, the way we think is that it's NOT an option. So it's few in between, and they usually get arrested in the end.

I got pulled over last year here in Edmonton. Cop said he lost track of which silver car he intended to pull over, and decided not to just peg me with the blame. I was doing ~60kmh on the highway passing cops that had pulled some guy over, and the traffic behind me started passing and swerving back over at a high speed.

All my interactions with cops here in Quebec have been nothing but respectful. I know there problems with our system, but I truly believe most cops are good people.

The one time I drove to Alberta, speeding tickets had just been increased and I was not given a pass. But I did like that I got a discount because I had a good driving record, they don't do that in most provinces. So I skipped the motel room and drove all night to get home.

I've also had no problems with cops here in Quebec, they are polite and all but so far about half of the ones I got were stickers to the rule and didn't drop anything on the ticket even though half of those tickets were for about the same speeds as the one in the video (~20 km/h over), which is imo not that fast compared to how fast some people are driving on the 20/40 (there were parts where I was driving 120, sometimes 130 and yet I'd be overtaken by people going at least 150-160) That said, the other half was good: one could easily have impounded my car due to how fast I was going that morning and suspended my license (I couldn't find the registration either to make things worse), and I'll admit there was a bunch of other dangerous shit I did that he could have got me for, but he just gave me a speeding ticket (for the highest speed he got that wasn't going to get me suspended or get my car impounded) as well as a very stern warning; another one almost caught me doing donuts in the snow in a parking lot (which is apparently illegal, he didn't see me do shit but there were tons of tire skids in the snow and the sides of my car were all white, it didn't require sherlock holmes to figure it out) and just told me to cut it out, I think he was also just not in the mood to give tickets at -15 on a sunday at 10 pm lol that said i've pretty much only interacted with the SQ (provincial police, like the OPP in Ontario), idk how it is with city cops though in Montreal or Quebec City

Rural cops are very different I'm a black and every time I've been stopped in a rural area I just get let go with a warning no speed ticket or anything its really just the big cities where they're trying to reach quotas and then the inner cities which obviously are worse

They're not going to have you step out of the car just over a ticket. That being said, police legally have to check drivers licenses on traffic stops, it's not something they just choose to or not to do. And if the driver doesn't comply then they'll have them step out.

Thats a Canadian Cop but not exactly sure how Kilometers work or speeds in canada are but the cop said 22kms above the limit. Which is quite substantial in the US MPH system that be equal to doing 77 in a 55mph Road or zone worthy of a ticket

No we have cameras that catch speeders and red light runners at hundreds of intersections, Mobile speed cameras that are un marked and tend to hide behind objects or parked cars. The parking patrol is also automated, they just drive up and down the road with a car covered in cameras that take pictures of everyone's license plate they do a few rounds and you get hit, not talking your way out of those ones. Oh then there is bylaw enforcement..... They get their pound of flesh, just not as often face to face.
