You're right, Faraday discovered that you are safe from lightning strikes if you are inside a metal cage (and not touching it) like in a car, plane etc. The electricity will only flow through the outside metal.

A few years ago I was given a book written by him, for my birthday. Right at the beginning he explains the difference between science, theology and esotericism using beer in the fridge. The chapter in the book is called: "Get beer for science..." He's really very funny!

@@UntilWeregoing He describes approaches to thinking and the behavior associated with them. A scientist goes to the fridge, opens it and finds or doesn't find beer in it. And then he describes his observation. A theologian goes to the fridge and believes that there might be beer in it, but he doesn't open the fridge to check. He simply believes there is beer in the fridge. An esoteric goes to the fridge and opens it. And even if there is no beer in it, he claims that there is some. That was more or less what he said. But he really put a funny spin on it...

Michael Faraday was a English scientist in the 19th century, who discovered the electromagnetic fields and founded the theory of Electromagnetism -- the idea, that Magnetism and Electricity are two aspects of the same phenomenon, further developed by James Clerk Maxwell. He is credited with inventing the Faraday Cage, a device keeping you safe from electrocution by lightning (in fact, a Faraday cage acts as a barrier to electromagnetic waves, and today, every enclosure shielding electromagnetic waves is called a Faraday cage).

I saw a few people reacting to this and nobody knew Faraday. You don't have physics at school? Copied from Wikipedia, because I am lazy. "Michael Faraday was an English scientist who contributed to the study of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. His main discoveries include the principles underlying electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis. ...he was one of the most influential scientists in history. It was by his research on the magnetic field around a conductor carrying a direct current that Faraday established the concept of the electromagnetic field in physics. Faraday also established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena. He similarly discovered the principles of electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and the laws of electrolysis. His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology, and it was largely due to his efforts that electricity became practical for use in technology. As a chemist, Faraday discovered benzene, investigated the clathrate hydrate of chlorine, invented an early form of the Bunsen burner and the system of oxidation numbers, and popularised terminology such as "anode", "cathode", "electrode" and "ion". The SI unit of capacitance is named in his honour: the farad. Physicist Ernest Rutherford stated, "When we consider the magnitude and extent of his discoveries and their influence on the progress of science and of industry, there is no honour too great to pay to the memory of Faraday, one of the greatest scientific discoverers of all time."" There is no way that you learn about the priciples of electromagnetism and electricity in school without coming across the name.

I see that you like German humor and German comedians. Then you should definitely check out Michael Mittermaier. He has been very well known for over 30 years and is still one of the best in my opinion. Among other things, he has an English program called "Das Blackout," which he showed on a small US tour in Washington DC, New York, Atlanta and Chicago. I saw a reaction video and I found it very funny that the guy from the US didn't understand a word and needed subtitles. For me, Mittermeier spoke perfect English.

@@UntilWeregoing Very good, I'm sure you'll love it. I'd like to tell you another cool anecdote. Michael Mittermeier is a huge Star Trek fan and had an appearance at a convention. After his appearance, Leonard "Mr. Spock" Nimoy himself stood up and made the Vulcan salute gesture. This left a deep impression on him.
