BRING IT ON WINTER!!! With winter right around the corner, for some of us it means getting our cars ready for the abuse of the cold temperatures. For others, it may also mean putting the winter cars away into storage or just taking them off of the road. I do not plan on winter driving my Nissan 370Z as I want to keep it looking great and keep it away from salt and corrosion.
This is the second car shelter I’ve purchased and I am happy to say I am WAYYYY more pleased with this one. It is stronger, it looks better and I will put money down that it will be able to withstand whatever winter throws at it. The last shelter I purchased was more of an entry-level 1-vehicle shelter whereas you can tell the quality of all of the materials is greater.

Hi Milan finally you have a Guest house hehehe. What you could do is put 2 wood board across the tent , so the front tires, and the back tires would be on top of the boards making weight on the tent, and the boards would be attached to the side pipes. So you did not need to attach to the wheels to the tent. And would be more sturdy. Hope I made myself clear.All the best.

I think the same, instead of board some metal sheeds that you bold to the 6x4, but the idea is the same, let the weight of the car do the job. Just be shure the sheeds are more big than the surface of contact of the tire. To avoid any damage to the rubber
@coolissimo69
@coolissimo69 5 жыл бұрын
Felipe Godoy The board is more cheap, and more friction on the tires . But yeah it could be done with 4 metal poles, and the wheels would seat on top. I though of that to. But leaning always for the cheapest solutions :D .

Great idea, will pick one up from Rona. Would have been great if you had shown putting it together because I'll probably have to build it myself as well. I would drill the brick and anchor it solid. It will be a huge sail on a windy day and we have been getting some crazy windy days lately. If you plan on taking it down in the summer, just fill the holes with a mortar mix parents will never know the difference. You also can buy flat anchors (bit more expensive) that will be flush with the brick surface, again parents wont notice them. In any case you need to anchor it down, seriously it is a huge canvas sail and if the wind catches it all I can say is good luck! (Anchoring it to the car with straps WILL NOT stop it from lifting)

I just saw your video. Don't know what you get for wind there, but some ideas on anchoring. You could use sand bags...if you tie them up to the metal pipes on the bottom or lay them over them. Another idea is to fill/weigh down 5 gallon pails and tie those to the pipes that are up a bit higher...this second option is merely an idea and might not work for your application. Either way, thanks for the review of the car shelter, as I am looking to get one.

Put 4 or more cutout center cement block on all four side on the outer side of the shelter and tie some duty rope in the cement block and throw the extra rope over the shelter and tie it down to the parallel cement block on the other side of the shelter so it can weigh down the shelter. You can also throw the rope over the shelter in a X over the shelter and tie it down to be more steady but its optional and it should do the work and keep the shelter steady.

If you haven't already bolted that thing down you should take the cover off immediately! One really windy day and your gonna find your tempo on top of your Z. Last winter my tempo blew into mine. Just to give you some context on how shifty these things can be; I have 2 tempos strapped together with 8 cement blocks going down each side and picks with rope attached at the ends. Make sure you inspect your support system regularly through the winter. Depending on how bad the weather is you might have to up the frequency.

What do you mean by plates? From the 👍 you got for the comment, I'm thinking I'm just not in the know. Lol. I'm a single mom that has no experience with things like this & I'm doing some research on different options to keep my son's car protected from all weather BUT ON THE DRIVEWAY, so asphalt/concrete that I don't want to drill into like this guy. Does anyone have a domed shaped one? Are they better at keeping snow/branches from piling onto the top causing drooping?

What about when the car is out of the shelter for 10 hours of the day for work? There’s no car holding it down and there’s a wind or snow storm.
@S1kje
@S1kje 5 жыл бұрын
Either fill a couple of bags with sand, use a few buckets or if you want to go all out: get some tubular steel, pipe insulation foam that fits around the tubular steel and weld a lower frame to the shelter. Use the foam to wrap around the tubes on the floor so your car's floor should the cover get picked up by a storm. You'll need mini ramps to roll over the tube cross sections off course. I would probably also use some straps to make crosses on the inside of the shelter to protect the frame from bending in strong wind. You should at least have space to do that at the front and back door of the shelter.

Two long planks of wood, tie it to the “car house” and park your wheels on it. It’ll be help anchor the canopy down and also stop the oils being drawn out of your tyres from being in contact with the driveway.

Snow is not your problem with these... it will generally slide off. WIND IS THE PROBLEM. The size of the side panels in a good windstorm will lift that garage and move it around. I know from experience. What I was going to try was to get some iron rebar, lay it across the floor, park on the rebar, and then attach the rebar to the walls of the shelter. This would keep the garage from blowing away and also keep the sides from blowing into the side of your car. I was initially thinking to use wood planks, but that would be harder to drive over. Oh, and sandbags will not be heavy enough unless you get A LOT of sand bags. That is a large shelter and will have a lot of wind force.
@bentnickel7487
@bentnickel7487 5 жыл бұрын
Walter Brooks I, like you, have found the walls become enormous sails, when the wind blows. Snow will slide off, but WIND will blow it into the car or completely off the car.

I wanna give you some advice for that shelter. Trust me, you DON'T want it attached to your car! Just grab a few bolts for concrete and bolt them down next to supporting legs, and use some wire or cord to fix it to the ground. If you strap the sidewalls to the car and the wind picks up, it will hit the bodywork and possibly damage it.
@vincewong5758
@vincewong5758 5 жыл бұрын
This guy has pavers so bolting to that would be insufficient. Like others have said, lay 2x6 or 2x8 across the front and rear tires spanning over both left and right sides of the shelter and use the weight of the vehicle to hold down the shelter.

Bent Nickel no it won’t. I ran a market stall on/off for 20 years. Sometimes in very bad weather. If the tarp is a good quality one (which I would expect at over $400). And it’s weighed down properly. It won’t move. Especially if it’s tired down to the wheels of the car plus weighing it down with sand bags.

rstezza Can't speak to your specifics, but my unit was more expensive than his and it was fine through the winter until February, then constant whipping of the canvess through the end of March and all the tie downs where it attached to the galvanized pipe were broken and the canvess was shredded. I live in Virginia. We'll have to wait and see. He may be protected from the wind, but my money is on the wind.
