Wonderful! This is the Canberra I love and remember. I left in 1987 but return every year to visit family

Canberra was a wonderful place back in the 70s. Our family lived there until the 2000s. Canberra is no longer the Bush Capital. If you move there in 2023, buy a bomb shelter and hire a Security Guard. I will never go back to Canberra Nor Sydney where I was born. Greenacres for me.

Anything via Australia in the 1980's was just wonderful here, I have no doubt especially in 1982 that it was beyond epic. Pity I was only 5 at the time and nice doco etc.

4:03 it's so weird seeing how that tall building, 40 Marcus Clarke, Canberra House, is so prominent. Compared to today, it is being somewhat dwarfed by newer tall buildings.

I lived there from 1969 to 1975 in my teens. After moving to Perth for my father's latest army posting, the lifestyle was like chalk and cheese. Perth was so laid back and friendly. Returning to Canberra years later to visit family, I noticed how formal and superficial it was. Just going for a walk people looked through as if you didn't exist. In Perth it is so rare that you don't acknowledge a stranger with a smile and a good morning gesture. Canberra, have a nice life!

It's a windblown desolate shell these days. Thank goodness I visited in 1989. It felt like an overseas city and was bustling then. Loved the orange ACTION buses.

Was and still is an artificial place. The superficiality is made worse by the government employees who think of themselves superior to the rest. It’s one of the saddest places I ever lived.

Please reopen Telstra Tower and fix the carillon. And start building more of those iconic bus stops. #MakeCanberraGreatAgain
@user-kc1tf7zm3b2 ай бұрын
Telstra own the property and did not really make a profit while it was open in the 2010s, so the company is in no rush to refurbish to modern standards and reopen it again. It has been said that the tower, which has a primary purpose of housing microwave dishes, is largely redundant and obsolete due to the ubiquity of optical fibre links in the region.

Not the Australian Government, but the ACT Government. There is so much urban infill, so many parks and recreational areas gone. Hi rise apartment blocks everywhere, nowhere to park and nowhere fit the kids to play. The greed and stupidity of the local government knows no bounds.

And the ACT government hasn't invested in Canberra only the developers for profit

@@margaretmatthews4872hit the nail on the head with that one! They've ripped the heart out of Canberra and have no idea how to design the city just sticking buildings all over the place and rezoning everything it's disgusting what they're doing!!
