Candace Owens condemned surrogacy during a recent episode of her show, calling it "demonic" and "deeply demonic." Owens argued that surrogacy is wrong because it allows people to have children without having to go through the natural process of pregnancy and childbirth. She also argued that surrogacy is exploitative of women, who are paid to carry and birth children for other people.
Owens's comments are deeply offensive to many people who have used surrogacy to have children. Surrogacy is a complex and personal decision, and it is not fair for Owens to make sweeping generalizations about it. So it is better to kill the child? I don’t like Candace, but I think she is just pointing out that carrying the pregnancy of your child is preferable to surrogacy. Rich people having poor women carry their pregnancies for no other reason than their own vanity is objectively demonic. So is abortion in the majority of cases.

@@trppstar It's not so much an argument as highlighting how the common narratives used by conservative pundits don't even make sense by their own logic. Making it more obvious than it already was that when they repeat these hypotheticals ad nauseam it isn't because they're actually concerned about the potential situation but because it can be used as a rallying point to charge up the base and leave them angry and fearful and paranoid.

I wanted to donate my eggs and/or be a surrogate. I ended up donating my eggs for almost 7k. I didn't want kids so I liked the idea of helping others and getting some bills paid. I didn't feel like an animal, I felt l love and compassion and really really full of pride I was able to help others.

My daughter and son in law (who are both in the medical field) have two children and do not want anymore but my daughter wanted to help someone who can't have children. She is currently due to give birth to twins for a wonderful gay couple from Israel in August. I'm very proud of her and her supportive husband.

Yeah….no. There are plenty of kids who would be adopted by infertile parents if not for the fertility industry. Even if what you are doing is a good idea (it isn’t), helping couples with fertility issues have kids is a little different than the Kardashians having surrogates because of vanity.

So, in the past 3 years I've noticed Conservatives say that they don't like women getting life saving abortions, they don't support gays adopting kids, they don't feel comfortable with interacial couples having kids, they don't like the idea of someone becoming a step parent to someone else's kids, & now they don't like someone being a surrogate for someone's kids. Makes me wonder (especially as someone who is biracial) if it's worth having kids at this point when they become a political talking point/attack even before they are born.

It’s gross that men with breeding fetishes and money can run around impregnating tons of women and too. Helping someone who can’t get pregnant through surrogacy can be a hugely generous selfless act, getting paid to rent out your body for someone too rich to notice the expense and unwilling to be pregnant themselves is disgusting. The difference is capitalism. No one would get knocked up by nick cannon or Elon musk if they didn’t see it as a long term payday. No one would carry a healthy rich woman’s baby if they weren’t going to be paid for it. But someone might carry their best friends’ child if this friends were unable to safely carry a child or were gay or any other non-monetary reason.

I signed my life away to the Marines so i could get out of financial hardship that would've happened. 17 years old and i was fine with it knowing id be compensated for it. Hows that any better than getting pregnant for someone else and you make some money and get taken care of? This should be perfectly fine as long as it has transparency for both sides and its a choice. Its weird we are fine with 17 year olds potentially signing their life away for money but not a woman who chooses to give birth for someone else and make a bit of money for their trouble of helping a couple out.

@@bobhanson1037 it’s not getting compensated that makes it gross. It’s that we live in a society where some people can buy the bodies of others. Not a complicated concept. “Pregnancy is hard on me but I want a biological child. I know! I’ll just pay someone else money I’ll never miss to go through a serious and risky medical event!” That’s disgusting. You signing on to serve your country is literally service to society. (Even if there’s a shipload wrong with the society and much of what institutions like our military do and are used for, it’s noble in principle to want to serve your community) same with surrogacy. Signing up to be a surrogate for someone who can’t have children isn’t weird, being paid by a private individual to be their walking incubator is. Surrogates should be paid, but they should be paid by society, like you were as a Marine. It would be weird if you signed on to be in Khloe Kardashian’s PMC, just like it’s weird that she can buy someone’s womb. No one should have enough more money than someone else to be able to compel them to give up their body like that. As a society there are benefits to surrogacy, but on an interpersonal level it’s pretty fucked up.

@@JP-JustSayin I think you got something wrong about that joke. Vegans avoid using any animal products, vegetarians are the ones who might still eat eggs and dairy. Also for most animals giving birth or laying eggs isn't especially unpleasant. Humans are actually pretty unique in that regard, it's due to our bipedal stance.

The reason we allow newborn animals to stay with the mother for some time is so they can suckle and be weaned eventually. Feeding baby animals is not only extremely time-consuming, but formulating milk with nutrients that mimics the natural lactations of that species is difficult and costly. It has absolutely nothing to do with compassion or empathy, and Candace is being emotionally manipulative on purpose because she is a reptile who is incapable of feeling human emotions, but knows how to exploit them to conquer us.

This scenario absolutely happened to my birth mother. She got pregnant in her teens and was forced to carry and give birth in a Catholic hospital. I was adopted at 10 days old and before that I was at the Catholic adoption agency. I have scars from this. I've never known my birth mother. I'm sure my birth mother suffered immensely.

In answer to Sam's question about 'how can she say its demonic to voluntarily have a child and give it to someone else but its a blessing to force someone to have a child and then give it away', the reason she can say that with such confidence is because her audience is STUPID. They aren't capable of using critical thinking. She comes up with the narrative (or her team does) and she's good with the twisting and turning of thoughts and looking the other way when necessary and takes the lead so that her audience just follows suit. We see it every day all over the right-wing media. I don't know WHY these people cant think critically or if its just willful ignorance or what but man there's a lot of religious people who are stuck in the cult mind. Paid surrogacy is unlawful in many countries including Canada and it would be nice to see a progressive show wrestle with these arguments more thoughtfully. Owens is a reactionary, however, there are serious ethical problems with markets in organ sales, surrogacy & the practice of eugenics.

True, so it becomes a selfless act to be a surrogate. it doesn't change the fact that according to Candace, the "demonic" part of surrogacy is the part where they take the baby away. In Canada the surrogate gets her expenses paid by the adopting parents, this way the surrogate doesn't have to worry about the cost of being pregnant.

@@misskate2012 I think Owens was fairly clear that she objected to being able to purchase bodies and outsource the work of pregnancy, however her position is entirely hypocritical given the rest of her capitalist pronouncements - compensating surrogates so they are not out of pocket is not meaningfully coercive in the way payment for gestation is under late stage capitalism

Also I believe Surrogates get paid very well, as they should. Try finding a cheap Surrogate option to be pregnant for you for 9 months and give birth. Even in another country, while it's cheaper, it's still not a cheap service.

I’m basing this on her husband’s interview where he said that they met a a Turning Point event in London, she left the next day, they texted each other for 17 days, then he proposed over the phone on the 17th day. That sounds arranged to me. According to her own rhetoric, she was past the age she should’ve been married and having kids, so they found her a husband. I grew up on a farm and my mom buys newborn calves and bottle feeds them. She always gets at least two for companionship but this is done all the time in farming so i dont know where she gets the idea that we would never do this to animals. It's the rule, not the exception in farming.

The idea that you can essentially just rent another person's uterus and "have a baby" without actually going through the process of gestation (in fact, offloading all of that onto another person) for purely materialistic considerations just does not sit right with me, and I know that it doesn't sit right with a lot of people. I can understand and empathize, and would even support it if gay and lesbian people or infertile couples want to opt for surrogacy, but I don't support glib self-absorbed celebrities who wish to offload the trials of pregnancy onto a different person just because they can afford to do it

Important to note that the desire is for kittens to be nurtured in their first months of life **by a mother of their own species** That is the point. Babies are not ripped away from a human and given to an animal for care. In adoption, they are taken from their bio mom to another loving mom. In surrogacy, they are taken from caretaker they’ve known and felt during pregnancy and given to their bio mom who will nurture them. The comparison just doesn’t work.

@@Flux_40 Well, given that communism is about shared public ownership of the means of production, I dont see why surrogacy is wrong cos communism. The UK is pretty much socialist, and surrogacy is ok there. UK law is that the surrogate mother cant be paid. That is, to an extent, the capitalist part has been removed. Surrogacy is an important part of allowing couples who cant carry babies can have babies. For sure, there are moral factors, but I dont think communism is one of them.

Okay, yes, you don't want to take a newborn kitten away from its mother if you can help it because a cat is generally best at raising and socializing a kitten *as a cat.* A human can do it if need be (if the kitten is orphaned or something), but it's tricky. The outcome is generally better if the kitten stays with its mother until it can be weaned. On the other hand, adopting a human baby means a human will be raising and socializing a human. And humans are best at raising and socializing other humans. An infant can be raised on formula, or maybe if there's a surrogate, she can pump and pass on the breast milk to the mother. IDK. What is wrong with Candace Owens?
