You're right, but playing into the white supremacist ideology that "hamas are monsters" is the kind of thing that allows them to justify what they're doing now. They're human beings, flawed human beings, but still human. Even the worst killer is still a human. When hollywood characterizes Nazis as monsters or caricatures of cartoon villains, it obscures the fact that a lot of Nazis were regular people who gradually bought into a horrific ideology and went down an evil path. A lot of white people in Jim Crow south in America were kind folks who treated their black maids and drivers nicely but who still voted for segregation and would lynch a black man in a heart beat if tensions flared. The moment we stop seeing the humanity in people, even our worst enemies, is the moment we lose all hope of preventing the violence we want to end.
