@@proCaylak 4 years ago Ian got his hands on a rather comprehensive collection of Bergmann guns, which he put out in consecutive order. For a lot of people it was too repetitive and Ian still references the "Month of Bergmanns" on occasion since it became a bit of a meme. Edit: nvm, the relevant playlist has already been linked.

@greg schweng a sharp good size blade is best for that if it’s personal, but yes for defense a firearm is better depending on distance. Even in predator mode a good sharp blade is still the best it’s always more personal and savage which is why it’s the number one killing method around the world. Killing someone with a gun is cowardly unless it’s self defense.

@greg schweng Yes the primary purpose of a handgun is for self defence. But there´s so much more: Taking a handgun to the range is often for practicing self defence. BUT it´s not only for that, it can be a pure sport. Think of it as a fun sport like maybe billiard or dart. Have you ever been on a range or out in a remote area matching yourself with your friends shooting paper or steel targets? Have you ever watched biathlon were people do nordic skiing and shooting as an olympic sport? It can be a secondary hunting tool for killing wounded game as quickly as possible. In some countries handguns are even legal as a primary hunting gun. AND I think for most of us watching this channel it is primarily for the historic significance and the technical achievements of the era before and around WWI. The craftmannship that went into this guns has to be appreciated, especially in a time when most new guns are made of polymer and CNC parts.

yeah, it's not easy, but the mechanics to make it a good disassembly are nearly there, excepted for removing the firing pin, you are tool-less and there's but a single screw in the entire gun also as Othias said it'll probably get get easier away from the camera and once you got familiar with the weapon

@@tenofprime that would be true for most firearms, that's why when field stripping in the field, you either try to find a table or dry ground, and if all else fail, lock the gun open and douse that binch in oil

I liked Ian's extended series on the Bergmann. This episode moved quickly through the design evolution and showed how many important designers touched it over its life.

The Bergmann always seems like it kicks sharper than the Mauser C96. It would be interesting to scale it up a little bit, use modern steels and chamber it for the 10 mm automatic pistol cartridge

This is one of my favorite episodes in a while and a great demonstration of why I love this show. You told this complicated story with a high density of information while still mentioning those details you are unsure about and while retaining your own personal storytelling flare. The gun is fascinating, and you clearly showcased how it works with a thorough take down that demonstrated your love and respect for the piece. This show really is a passion project and, despite maintaining professional detachment, you bring you passion across.

I am flabbergasted. I have been a firearms enthusiast since childhood and I also grew up in the Aschaffenburg area. Specifically I have worked in Sailauf (which essentially is a village on the outskirts of the Spessart forrest) for 12 years and I never knew that Bergmann originated from there. My mind is blown.

This presentation (tomb) couldn't be more informative. A long story and evolution to eventually copy ( somewhat😉) the Mauser C96. Now I need a C96. I love the 3-valley 7.62x25 signature crack. I leave my head phones slightly loose so I can enjoy the music. No ear protection and you experience internal bleeding!! Keep up your mature style. Your a fresh presentator in the KZfaq world of doomsday plastic gun freaks. My production date is 1951. My active collection all metal CZ & Walther pistols. New Hampshire.✌️🇺🇲

As far as I know, the hability of being able to reload by striper clip or by magazine (both) was one of the factors mentioned by the Spanish comision on the adoption of the Bergman. God of algorithm pacified.

It's pretty crazy to me that the FN 1900 was available, with it's nested slide and breech block, and the magazine in the grip (which allows the whole gun to be far more compact and better balanced), and they were still fussing around with stuff like this a decade later.

Not just the FN1900, the Borchardt C93 had the mag in the grip. These firearm designers were each building largely from the ground up. No one back then knew that the tilting barrel, recoiling slide, shooting thumb mag release designs would be the future.

One of your greatest episodes, the Bergmann is really a complicated topic, spot on with some good jokes! I would say Mannlicher was one of the greatest names throughout the 1890´s regarding rifles, but on the pistol side he was quite compareable to Bergmann/Schmeisser, he only got that moderate success with the M1903/M1905, compareable to Bergmanns spanish and danish contracts. The Mannlicher M1896 and M1896/03 are maybe compareable in terms of commercial success to the Bergmann Mars, if at all. No match for Mausers C96, Lugers Parabellum or Brownings Colt and F.N. designs. And the Mannlicher M1894 was more or less a dead end prototype that was offered commercially, similar to all of the Bergmann Models before the Mars (with the exception of the Bergmann Simplex). The Roth-Steyr and the Steyr 1912 as the other Austrian pistols were the successfull ones, both commercial and technical, the M1912 was even one of the better pistols used in WWII. And while maybe connected to Mannlichers name through the Steyr gun factory, he was not responsible in any way for their design. Don´t get me wrong, I´m the biggest fan of Mannlicher rifles, especially Mannlicher-Schönauers. An episode on the Mannlicher M1896 pistol and it´s variants would be great!
