The energy harvested from the plant (photon) has to be of a certain value (wavelength), because the plant uses the capacity of some molecules (chlorophyl) to absorb those photons. And these molecules do it this way: A molecule is a compound made of atoms with bonds between each atom. These bonds are made by electrons and these electrons are, when no photon hits them, in a low-energy state. When a photon hits the molecule, the electrons get excited and spring to a higher energy-state. This is called absorbption. The kinetic energy of the photon gets converted to electronic potential energy. But not any photon can excite any electron: The wavelenghts (i.e. difference of energy-state of the electron) of the photon and the electrons energy-state-difference have to match. This is why low pressure sodium lamps emit only one wavelenght: In sodium vapour there is only sodium and it's valence-electrons present, so there is only "one kind" of electron that jumps up and down energy states. But when you have a molecule, the wavelengh required to excite electrons changes. This is why it matters if you have 405 or 452 nm photons: One will excite more and more efficiently electrons in the chlorophyll (sry for bad english)

Just wish I knew what light to go for..... So much info everywhere and nothing really stands out. I have a 600w hps omega ballast in a 1.2m2 space that I'd like to upgrade it seems I need to be an engineer or light wizard to make a correct choice... Can some one tell me what lights produce as much or more while saving electricity? What to avoid? What companies to look out for in future? I'd love an end game level light basically for a small space.

Stay with HID we always yeild the most with the best Quality we have perfectly balanced spectrum bulbs now and Dimmers and AC Reflectors if it's Not broke don't try to fix it common sense a $100 dollar HID ballast will BLOW ANY $2000 dollar LED panels out the water with Quality and Yeild unless the LED lights are putting 1000 Watts from the wall but then again you would never to be able to place LED lights close to the plants as we do HID lights!!!!!
@ross4675

@@mackattack8627 Hmm.. I see. Thanks for the message man. Do you think much of the HLG 550 V2, apparently that's the boss atm.. well judging from a few videos and the stats they put out on their website. Seems to match up to a 1000w set up as far as nanomole, par etc (basically not w). I sometimes keep my hps like 6-12 inches away from the middle plant, while a 16 inch fan is hitting them constantly and intermittent exhaust. Hope they don't get stressed, plus I want tight nodes and not a lanky ending. I guess the LEDs kill or mess up the plants at that range? Surly if the HLG or any other light is on par with single ended hps and < costs less to run it should be done? What you think chief?
@mackattack8627
@mackattack8627 5 жыл бұрын
@@ross4675 The only way you gonna match a 1000 watt HID is you have to pull the same Electricty from the wall some panels can achieve this with less wattage if they are using the glass projector lenses over the cobs the Next light mega uses 3000k and 5000k led diodes to get basically a 4000k Spectrum which is Stupid because all they had to to is use 4000k diodes 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@mackattack8627
@mackattack8627 5 жыл бұрын
The Optic 8 panel claims 500watt and grow 2 1/2 pounds while using Chinese Rebranded panels plus the panels have 8 fans meaning the panel can only be a 400watt panel minus the current draw from the 8 fans🤔 when Growing cannabis indoors the plant can only achieve the yeilds in wattage pulled from the wall and a Master Grower to get a 1 gram per watt or above With perfect environment and high yeild strains plain and simple
@mackattack8627
@mackattack8627 5 жыл бұрын
I'm actually going to buy several Aglex 2000/400 watt LED panels simply because of the price and Quality and spectrum but again a 600 to 1000 watt HID with 3000 to 4000k mh bulb can't be beat in Yeild and Quality and Coverage many people just complain about the heat from the fixtures because they don't understand how to vent them correctly or not using AC Reflectors back in the days we only had industrial mh bulbs with magnetic ballast and no Air Cooled Hoods or Reflectors and did just fine 🤓

This stuff is marketed heavily to cannabis growers as they are the only ones that can really afford this high tech stuff. Cannabis is an extremely high value cash crop and the industry is greatly increasing in size at the moment. As a result there is extra money for experimentation, and this stuff can greatly affect marijuana yield which doesn't really matter much for a leafy green or tomato. Edit: The light being demoed in front of them costs about $2200 for a 4'x4' unit, before tax.

Looks like they built those strips or had them produced custom for them... I say that due to the increased diode density on the ends and the multiple color channels, I doubt they are pre made strips they just picked up. Some hlg strips or if you can get lucky finding something on Alibaba would be your closest config these days, but you lose color channels. Maybe greengene or another board producer could add some to their to do list. It is a nice layout. (lots of $$ in heatsink though, I wonder if plain aluminum can do a good enough job...)

I think it’s going to be the LED placement intensity & density and the spectrums that differentiate this from the spider ex which goes for about 1500 for the first 10.

In my opinion, no commercial grower will ever lower their wattage by MAYBE 300-400 watts at a significant upfront price increase compared to hps. It's also an unproven technology, whereas hps is proven to grow dank. No commercial guys will risk it. I myself use a Perfect Sun led because it severely cuts down on my wattage from another led I have and it has an amazing average par for the wattage. With PS I'm saving money, with a 700w led you might as well use 1000w hps

That guy is also completely wrong when he says you can get the same type of yields with one light in a tent as a commercial warehouse grower does. You're telling me you can put 6-8 plants in a 5'x5' tent with a single 1000w hps light (double ended or not) and get 2-3 pounds or more?? Get real, we all know that's very hard under one hps light.

IP66, spectral control, industrial construction - that shit doesnt come for free. Sure, we can DIY something similar for cheaper but big commercial growers aint DIYing their lights.
@mrtimjitsu
@mrtimjitsu 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't expect anything to be free. I personally value time over money, so I would pay more for a professionally built light to save me hours of time and a massive headache. There just has to be a justification for the price you charge for a good or service. IP66 that's cool if you want to hose down your lights, but i guarantee you NOBODY will do. My phone is waterproof up to 3 meters, but I won't even take it in the shower. It's too much of an investment to risk damaging same thing goes with a grow light. "Spectral control" is cool but not something that add's that much cost to the unit. As far as the term "Industrial Construction", that's just a selling point, and has no real meaning. I deal with salesmen almost everyday. They can find words to make dog shit sound technical. Not saying this light is dog shit but you get what I mean... I work in manufacturing. Their material cost's are probably only $400-$500 max depending on how good their buyer is, source of materials (domestic or foreign) etc. Labor cost probably $100 at most if they are having one person assembling each unit from start to finish and he is a licensed electrician, but that's doubtful. So max cost per unit around $600. At a selling price of $2200, that's a 72% gross profit margin. profit margins vary by industry but most hover around 30%, so for them to be shooting for 70% they would need some kind of patented ground breaking new product, which they don't. But hey, if they want to be the designer handbags of the horticulture world they're well on their way. TL;DR: These lights are overpriced. (i'm sure you already knew that)

mrtimjitsu - ehh, reliable waterproofing isn't cheap. And that's a lot of mid power led boards... If they don't have in house machines they have to sub it out. 10c a component is a discount for that service (plus if you go to China you pay 2x because they steal your design) .... I'd say your estimate is 400 - 500 low (don't forget benefits for employees too, healthcare is expensive... Like I even needed to say that). even in business raw materials like aluminum aren't much cheaper than we can get it ourselves.
@mrtimjitsu

Dude Guy - that's not an argument.

@mrtimjitsu 6 жыл бұрын
volvo09 - you think my estimate is low by 400-500 PER UNIT because of a monthly health insurance premium that they may or may not pay? That's assuming they are even assembling these in-house. Have you ever bought large quantities of aluminum before? What seems like "not much cheaper" to a person buying a couple sheets from their local metal yard is A LOT cheaper to someone buying thousands of pounds of it. Also they're using extruded aluminum channel for the framing. Extrusions are priced by linear ft. not lb. Also the die for the extrusion most certainly patented. So the price also depends on the type of channel because they target certain industries and price it accordingly. So you could be paying more 8-10x more per lb than sheet aluminum. There is A LOT of wiggle room in the price if you are going to buy large quantities of extruded aluminum straight from the mill or a broker.

Sell your car and purchase one(1) light. LMFAO!! FYI: Heads up/reality check.... A used $100.00 HID lamp and digital ballast does the same thing & you will have $1900.00 left in your business bank account for cash flow. Unless your stupid with a bunch of borrowed money and can buy pallets of this technology that will be outdated within 18months.

LEDBuilder dot-org it's funny how you are focused on only one aspect of my entire comment and completely ignored the ideology of it but we all know why.... because that's your machination. In response to your sophomoric question. Yes, HID lighting has advanced from when it first hit the market place to where it is now. Look up ceramic metal halide, look up Pulse start metal halide, look up dual arcing metal halide, look up dual arcing HID, look up advanced color spectrums for HID lighting & I can go on and on. To ask such a imbecilic question and yet profess to be in the business, really outlines the core of the problem here. In addition, you're puerile reference to air conditioning is laughable. Here is an ingenious idea, vent your HID lights. This is for you 😂😂😂😂. Now on to the new brobdingnagian problem. The completely narcissistic thing you're saying here is for me to agree with you! Furthermore, to complete your narcissism and your narcissistic ideology you're actually telling me what I should write, for my agreeance with you. WOW. 😮 Okay, I will patronize you're repugnant, narcissistic personality. "There is such awesome LED technology coming in the future this light will look like old 💩 even though it still performs well." Are you happy? Now with that being said; firstly, that's a fluctuates statement with no validity! Secondly, to be completely honest with you, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now back to the subject matter, cost versus performance. I have already said what I said, you should read it again. I know my comment (even in it's simplest form given) was a very complex, business ideology & perspective. However, maybe if you reread it several times over and over (very slow) you will come to a understanding. Maybe there's a close friend or relative you can get in touch with during your time of imprudence. I feel you should refrain from making comments in reference for your company. Your nonsensical, obtuse & stolid thinking and comments will not progress you in any way shape or form, personally or professionally. PS. The next time I talk to you or give you advice, you're going to have to pay me 💰!! No more freebies for you kid!! Trades are paid for not taught. Mic drop!!
