Yes, but canning your own them leaves you with thousands of glass mason jars that take up room and potentially can create bacterial growth. It's not written the trouble. Plus, they get really heavy for traveling with. It's just a pain to can. I started that but nolonger.

We have a variety of canned meats, but I want to try canning and freeze drying my own, both for the health benefits and the price point We will continue to use and stock the store bought though, because it's much easier and has a long shelf life. To me, having a variety of different options seems like a good way to go.

@@nonya68 you act as if you're going to take this on your hike when you bug out. the point you missed is your "prepping pantry". planning on taking your entire pantry with you when you're bugging out? Also, Canning is not a pain. clean your jars in a dishwasher, cut and pack your raw meat and pressure can for 90 minutes. I just did 9 pints this past weekend.. pretty easy.

When I decided to stock up on canned meat (as a carnivore), I chose Keystone, buying cases directly from the company. The two things I appreciate most about Keystone are the 2 ingredients and the 5 year shelf life.

I would go with the Best By dates because they are in polymer lined cans not glass ! And in a can I would not push it to best by date ! And even if they were in glass not very much more than the best by dates ! Rotate your stock ! And avoid the ones that have other ingredients such as preservatives !
@twinfin8571
@twinfin8571 7 ай бұрын
I agree with dw387. Mt aunt had cans of ham etc for decades in her basement. She died 15 or so years ago at 98 yrs old. Back then there were no dates on the cans. As long as the can isn’t dented or compromised, it’s fine. I’m speaking about solid cans. The new pull top ring cans is another thing. Avoid them for long term storage and if you have pull tops, check for leakage or slight opening around the top. Use them first. They’re still good if beyond best date but more likely to have issues with that easy to open top. Any cans you’re storing that gets air should be thrown away. Best Buy dates…….marketing agenda. A ton of good food gets thrown out by people who don’t know the corporation gimmicks. “Scare them. Make them think we’re saving them.” They spread fear and they get rich. Just look at the past few years of fear. And more coming soon. Anyway. Do what you want. If you feel safe and you’re happy that’s all that counts.
@tomboatman2541
@tomboatman2541 7 ай бұрын
The acids in the food and the salt dissolve the polymer lining in the can so the longer the can sites the more toxic chemicals that leach into the food ! So you will not know it but you are eating poison then ! Glass is your best bet for long term storage ! And even then only a couple of years ! If you are worried about starving learn how to cure meat 🍖🥓 with salt ! I am going to be short on this or can it your self no pressure cooker or water bath needed ! Cook the meat while it is boiling put it in sterilized canning jars and seal them ! All those other hoops they have people jumping through is " Their " misinformation to make it harder than it needs to be and more of a chance of it going bad !

I’ve yet to buy Great Value canned chicken that didn’t smell and taste like tuna. Even my children questioned whether I had sneaked fish into their “chicken” dish. Members Mark (Sam’s) on the other hand smelled and tasted like chicken. I have often considered sending the Great Value for a DNA test just to see if it is actual chicken and if it is, why it smells and tastes so “fishy.” I’ll be sticking with Members mark and Kirkland until I get the answer. I really appreciate what you do on this channel brother, you save a ton of people a lot of work, and that's awesome. So this rebuttal isn't really pointed at you specifically. I just wanted to point out that the only reason anyone should consider canned chicken for survival food is if they're really financially in a great place, or just have to have it for comfort food for some reason. Pinto Beans: Cal/$100 -- 141,120. Grams Protein/$100 -- 15,288. Fat -- 0. Sodium -- 0. Cholesterol -- 0. Shelf life -- longer than ours, and way longer than that chicken.

I live on Vancouver Island I have never seen canned chicken in any supermarket where I live, though I have heard that Costco sells it, but there is no Costco in the small City I live in. It does comfort me to know that Kirkland got such a good score as if I were to drive to another City I could get to a Costco. I have been pressure-canning my own chicken over the past three years. Chicken thighs are much more tasty and tender when home canned, than chicken breasts I have found.

We shop at both Sams Club and Costco, and have bought canned chicken from them both. I always liked the Sams brand a little better. To me I like the flavor a little more. And costcos canned chicken tastes ok, I can deal with it lol. But after watching this, I just might stick with Sams brand. Especially after seeing the “calories” column. After all, if you’re depending on your preps to survive you’re going to want/need those calories. But where I live and plan on hopefully surviving an emergency, white tail deer, rabbits, cat fish, crappie, and bass are def going to be MAJOR supplements to our food preps. For the most part I can take those animals with my bow and not have to use precious ammo to harvest, possibly giving away our position, and the rod and reel are always silent 🤫

You gave Kirkland a taste of three, and then on the chart you showed a 1. Big difference.

Yes I noticed that too. All the "taste" numbers on the final comparison chart are opposite from the numbers given during the tasting. 3 was the best taste, and 1 was the worst.

This was so great! I look at the salt content and then what tastes best. I’ve been stacking up Kirkland brand but would like to find an organic one to see how that compares. I don’t have a Sam’s club nearby. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the video. Sam's and Kirkland the calculation was off. You could have purchased more for the 100 than you calculated and that swayed your numbers.

I thought on the taste test you said 3 was best and 1 was worse, bland, tasteless. wouldn't that upset the total scores that were based on the lower the score the better the value?

i have both the kirkland and keystone on hand and like both of them. just used 4 cans of the kirkland 4 gups of shredded mozzerella, 4 eggs, and 2 cups of flour, 4 teaspoons of onion powder, 4 teaspoons of garlic powder to make chicken nuggets from them dredged in bread crumbs (crushed pork rinds or other options works too) then pan fried in some oil. was rather tasty and froze the extras to alternate between the huge batch of celletani noodles i mixed with 4 cans of the same chicken, and 2 jars of alfredo sauce. vac sealed in portions and into the freezer :)

I wonder what McDonald's makes their chicken nuggets out of... Or, should I say what brand of canned chicken? Perhaps, it is from China like the crabcake promotion they had at one time. Gross!

@@ninavongunten122 pretty sure they use all the lowest cost left over stuff no one would want to eat, puree it into a paste and it gets formed into nuggets and coated in the breading then frozen. i never did like them even as a kid i could not tolerate anything from Mcdonalds really which was back in the 80s. only place i really liked was Hardee's (now Carl's Jr) though not had their food since like 2003, they had top tier curly fries.

Great job. I buy the Sam's all the time and they are often on sale making it a better value. One of my favorite survival meals is a box of Zatarain's Jambalaya mix and a can of Sam's chicken. One box, one can, and 20 minutes.

But you have to take into consideration what you're combining it with. It's not likely someone will be eating only the chicken. You'll most likely be combining it with other ingredients in a recipe. So the taste test is not truly anywhere near as important as the other models. Such as amount vs cost. But great video of the options!! I learned something. Thanks!

buy an electric or traditional pressure canner, buy the jars and lids, watch the youtube videos, and can your own chicken in bone broth (made from the carcass bones) so you know what is in your meat. this allows you to take your cooked dump-and-go meals.

I get Kirkland chicken at Costco all the time at 12.99 / 6pack, so it is 2.16/can instead of 2.5/can, which brings the pounds of chicken meat per $100 to 20.71, which is the best value according to your chart. The same Kirkland chicken costs a lot more at Amazon or Ebay. I am ignoring membership fee since you get some bonus check at the end of the year. Very good job you did on the test and chart.
