Tomato sauce is a great way to start your adventure into the canning world. It is easy to make, doesn't require any special equipment, and it is used in a lot of homemade dishes.
I have seen it being made since I was a child, at my grandma's house in the village. They used to can hundreds of bottles with their homegrown tomatoes that they would keep in the basement until winter came, and there were no more fresh tomatoes anywhere to be found.
Later on, I saw my mother canning it but I was young and not really interested at the time in these kinds of activities. Now that I am a mother myself and try to give my children the best and cleanest foods that I possibly can, I started growing a garden and canning too.
I encourage you to go to the market if you don't grow your own, find an honest vendor and buy a few pounds to start your own adventure. It all starts with a few jars and soon they will take over your whole house :)
