‘A forever star and an illuminating artist”, the words of actress Uma Thurman as she presented Michael Douglas with his Cannes lifetime achievement award. The 78-year-old actor was first at the festival with 'The China Syndrome' in 1979 - but probably his most famous film presented was 'Basic Instinct' in 1992. We look back at his career.
Also on the programme with Eve Jackson, we’re getting red carpet ready with Helen Mirren, getting to know the president of the jury, 'Palme d’or' winning director Ruben Ostlund, and having a first peek at Spanish director Pedro Almodovar’s queer cowboy short 'Strange Way of Life', with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

While I like Michael Douglas this whole event has a certain “let them eat cake” feel.

And these "actors" are more like pop stars than actors😊😊😊 a dime a dozen in yards of drapes... Scarlett O'Hara at least knew how to carry drapes!!😅😅

This is a wonderful film festival but I have to differ with the presenter who claimed that Cannes is the most prestigious red carpet in the word? Really? More prestigious that Hollywood with 94 years of academy awards where some of the greatest films of all times were produced? Please give credit where credit is due!
