Cannes chronicles: Meryl Streep accepts lifetime achievement award • FRANCE 24 English

Every year the Cannes film festival honours a great figure from the movie industry. This year, Meryl Streep is in Cannes to receive a lifetime achievement award at the opening ceremony - 35 years after she first set foot on the red carpet at the festival. Over the past 6 decades, Streep has played in dramas such as "The Deer Hunter", "The French Lieutenant's Woman" and "Kramer vs. Kramer" as well as family favourites like "Mamma Mia!" and "The Devil Wears Prada". Surprisingly, she has been to Cannes only once before - though she did manage to win best actress that year - for 1989's "A Cry in the Dark". Together with Oscar winning French actress Juliette Binoche they declared the festival open.

She acts as if she is a great drama actress while never taking the challenge of doing theater, which is a bit of a posture. The only time she did was in Central Park with a host of other Hollywood actors. She is just a Hollywood actress.

@vijayarchitect, do you hate all people? You must hate all people, poor thing that you are. You must carry deep hurts in your poor broken heart. But, perhaps I'm wrong about you. Perhaps you don't hate everybody. Perhaps you don't even hate *anybody!* Perhaps you just had a bad day. Perhaps you were hurt in a terrible manner, and the hurt in your heart turned into anger, and that anger unfortunately got the better of you and you took it out on another (also) really innocent victim.
