This is the most unbiased review I've seen from any reviewer for this camera. Real world reviews highlight the camera's actual use instead of just the specs. This from a Nikon shooter is refreshing!!!

About one shot to servo focus: you can configure nearly any button on the camera to switch from one to the other. I have ALL 4 front buttons on mine for this function - the small ones around the lens - and keep my camera on servo focus all the time. When I need one shot I hold one of the front buttons which also helps tighten my grip. Great review!

Awesome! I think it's not only a good camera review, but also a very, very nice footage about the athletics too. I really like how the video was shot. Not only it shows us how you work on a job as a photographer, but it also gave a good impression about those people who were doing sports. I love those details. It's like you said, all about storytelling. For me as a amateur, this camera is far out of reach. But in whole this video gave me a a good overview what the camera is about, in the meanwhile also giving me inspiration about how to look at things for creating a good photo or video.

10:30 It's technically impossible for Canon to update the firmware to enable clean 4K through HDMI out. The HDMI bus on the camera is literally not capable of the bandwidth required for 2160p@60fps so it's not something you can just patch via software.
@DCuerpoJr
@DCuerpoJr 8 жыл бұрын
Given the camera's internal bit rate of 800Mbps for 4k at 60fps and 500Mbps at 24fps, I wouldn't need uncompressed raw video via an external recorder, especially given the size and heft of the camera already. If you need RAW video, then buy a dedicated camcorder like the Sony FS-5 or FS-7 that both support it via an external recorder.
@paristo
@paristo 8 жыл бұрын
the "clean HDMI" means that there isn't overlay in the link, not about compression or anything like that.
@DCuerpoJr
@DCuerpoJr 8 жыл бұрын
paristo Clean HDMI output is ideal for monitoring the video and for external recording. The 1Dx mk2 supports clean, uncompressed output at 1080p which is fine for monitoring, but cannot do external 4k recording.
@paristo
@paristo 8 жыл бұрын
+David Cuerpo Jr clean HDMI is only about video not having overlay, like shutter speed, aperture, time code or such. it doesn't mean anything about resolution, codec, quality etc of the video itself. a HDMI is clean HDMI even if it would be only a 480p with 800 kbps as long it doesn't have a overlay on video. people mistake "clean HDMI" to mean high bit rate, uncompressed, high resolution video that it ain't. clean HDMI means only that you can record video with a external recorder without any overlays of camera settings, nothing about quality of video link itself. that video quality itself is defined by the definition, frame rate, codec and bit rate itself. like: FullHD (1080), 25 fps, MJPEG and 55Mbps. nothing to do with "clean HDMI".
@DCuerpoJr
@DCuerpoJr 8 жыл бұрын
paristo The original comment was about the camera's inability to output clean HDMI at 4k 60fps because it's only HDMI 1.4. Therefore, the Canon 1DXmk2 is only capable of clean HDMI uncompressed output at 1080p and cannot be upgraded via firmware. To which I replied, that if someone wanted a dedicated 4k camera then they're better off with a Sony FS5 or FS7 that both support these capabilities among many other video centric features. As I mentioned before, clean HDMI output is ideal for both monitoring and recording because as you mentioned, it doesn't display the camera's overlay of the settings. For RAW external recording, you want clean HDMI and uncompressed output at the camera's highest resolution and frame rate- which the Canon 1DXmk2 is not capable of.

What would be the relevance of that? Your settings are largely dictated by existing light levels, so you can't just copy the settings and get the same results. Jared often stated what aperture he was using to let you know how he achieved the particular depth of field he achieved.

Thanks for the review Jared! As for switching between One Shot and AI Servo, you can actually go to custom control and set one of the back buttons up to do just that. I've set mine up so that the AF-ON button will switch between the two. Other buttons will work as well. Although I've already seen a couple other reviews, as you are a Nikon shooter, I would be interested in your opinion of the high ISO performance. And btw, you got some amazing shots there, well done!!

just finished watching this video. I loved the shots but wondering if u r shooting in sports mode because the action is too quick to be shooting in manual mode. So for a sporting event, do u use sports mode or Program mode. Most reviews show the best of the lens but what about the camera? Although this review is about the camera, and not a particular lens, how does one use the camera to the best of their ability with a say Canon 100-400 lens. BTW my camera ia only a CAnon 5Ti model. Thanks again for another great video

One question, can you do a review of a kids party both out doors and indoors (low Light) with kids running? I never see "real world" reviews of kids events.

Hey Jared. What was your thoughts on the Canon 300mm 2.8 compared to your Nikon? Are they so comparable that it doesn't matter or you noticed advantages with one over the other.
