I owned both the Viltrox f1.8 and the Canon RF 85 macro. Unfortunately had to send the Canon back. Kept the Viltrox and never looked back, doesn’t get the focus always, maybe like 90% of the time, but the colors are much better. I’ll hold on to it as it is currently discontinued maybe until I can afford that Canon RF 1.2 😊

Hi! thanks for comparison. But I don't understand why you chose 1/5000 for shuterspeed on static posing, and related to that, the Iso went up from 200 on RF85mm F1.2, to Iso 500 on Rf 85mm f2.

Thanks! Yeah when renting all of that stuff you don't catch those things until you are editing, considering the time limit. Lots of time and money was invested into that day. Considering the heat and many variables, that you don't see, I'm surprised I didn't drop that 85 1.2. Also, with the test being only with the lenses at their widest apertures the shutter speeds have to be high in such bright sunlight. The stationary pose had nothing to do with it. The idea was to only test the lenses at the widest apertures to stress the focus and RF lens Eye AF in that moment. In addition, I was photographing with strobes at HSS to even exposures during that time too. But yes, I did notice the ISO change later. Ideally, I'd have everything at ISO 100 but changing lenses, trying to be careful, and filming with the Ninja all by myself is not easy. Also remember the differences between background vs foreground exposures. If the sun is backlighting or beaming light in at a bright exposure vs where your subject is, you have to stop down using Shutter speed or Aperture. In a rush I didn't see ISO Creeping up, but it wouldn't actually change the results in a focus/sharpness test at ISO 200.

I have also brought the Viltrox RF 85mm. I found the version 1 on one local store. It can be found on Aliexpress at 2 sellers right now, but be careful because one seller asks to much for this lens. I also compared to EF 85mm F1.8, and I came to the same conclusion as yours. The AF on EF version is noisier, albeit is faster al little than Viltrox. But the quality and feeling of the Viltrox is more nicer than EF version. From my tests, the EF version has double the chromatic aberrations that EF 85mm has wide open, until F2.8. I was a little skeptical about Viltrox functionality on Canon R6 mk II, because I didn't find any reviews online about this combo. But it is working as described here. I upgraded the firmware of Viltrox 85mm from 1.1.0 that came, to the version 1.1.5, and the AF improves a bit.
