📸 Rescuing and Restoring Mom's Canon AE-1 Program: The First Roll Experience 📸
In this video, join me as I rescue and restore my mom's long-forgotten Canon AE-1 Program, bringing it back to life and capturing memories once again.
🔧 DIY Restoration:
Cleaning, replacing light seals, battery, and picking up a new lens took up some time! I wasn't sure if my handy work with the light seals was correct... so there was only one thing to do!
🎞️ Kodak Gold 200 Test Roll:
With the camera restored to its former glory, it was time to put it to use! I loaded a roll of Kodak Gold 200, a classic film stock that pairs perfectly with the vintage aesthetic. Listen in for the satisfying shutter sound and rewinds! Frame after frame, the Canon AE-1 Program proved that age is just a number - producing stunning shots that transported me back in time.
🌟 The Results:
The images captured on this test roll are a testament to the enduring quality of the Canon AE-1 Program and the art of film photography. Whether you are a beginning film photographer, or have years of experience, this camera is the perfect addition to your camera bag!

Totally awesome! I love seeing other people talking on very challenging DIY tasks that they have never tried before. I've always been that guy, but I keep trying to tell people that it's not that I was somehow born with the ability to do all that stuff. You just gotta be willing to: A) Do some research, B) Have patience with yourself, C) Have patience with the process, and D) Trust yourself to figure out out.

My first Canon camera was an AT-1 that I purchased back in '74. I had a 35 mm, 50 mm and 200 mm lens. I love thinking back to my HS days when I developed the B&W film and made prints.

Sn3443420 with the 50-1.8 & 70 - 200 f4 with the macro function was my first ever camera purchase & still have it all to this day. Finally pulled the camera out of the cabinet about a year ago & had to purchase the batteries off of Amazon. Also still have 2 rolls of Kodak gold 200 in the fridge that is at least 15 years old. Probably more like 17 or 18 years old. Have fun.

101° is positively chilly. Try living over here in San Angelo. 😂 But you are right. You never really get used to it.

I don't have an AE-1 Program, but I do have several canon film cameras and many other brands, including Nikon, Minolta, etc. Love Minolta film cameras😊 Oh, and for days like that one you were out in, you should weatherproof you cameras. Put in rubber seals so you can waterproof them. Then, you can just ride your bike off the track and straight into the creek!!!😊😝

5:09 - Only a Texan would call "advancing the film" "cocking the camera," like it was a Remington Repeater. 😂

Another great video! Great job DYI’ng the repair work on the Canon. My first SLR camera was the Canon AE-1. I bought it in 1979 in Madison, Wisconsin when I was a Freshman at the UW. Your video brought back some great memories of miles and miles of walking around Madison, taking photographs throughout my college years. Thank you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Still have my Canon FTb, it's about 8 feet from me now on my dresser. Bought it in 1973. Time to spruce it up and try it out.

I just picked one up a month ago and shot my first couple rolls. First experience with film well since being a child and playing with some 110 point and shoot and I'm quite happy with the results. Not as much dynamic range as digital but I am adjusting! Keep up the good work :)

An inspiring and motivational video to go and shoot some film ! Great video. It reminds me that some years ago I purchased all of the film cameras that I could not afford when I was first interested in photography in the 1980's. Whilst many have been sold, I still have 6 Olympus 35mm cameras including OM1's and Pentax cameras of the same era (ME Super, MX). If we all undertook a few film shoots it would help keep the Kodak Rochester plant going. ps: I wonder if our Leica Q2 Reporters could be rescued in 2063 and whether old memory cards and batteries would still work ?
