I was debating this exact choice a few week ago and ended up going with the efm 55-200mm as I already had the kit lens ( 15-45mm ). Super happy with my choice as 200mm has the little extra zoom compared to the 150mm which helps alot in my opinion, I never knew i was needing that extra 50mm until I got my hands on it, great comparison btw, appreciate these videos alot, we need more ❤️🙏📸

The 55-200 can be pretty sharp specially if you stop down the aperture. You’ll have to bring up your ISO. So these lenses are best suited for bright sunny days. The M50 is perfectly capable of getting super sharp images. It’s the glass that makes a difference. If people want to get a bright, sharp telephoto for the M50 they’ll have to invest in a 70-200 F2.8 and use an adapter.

Opinion: The last half of your video was much better than the first but still was more a review of 18mm vs. 55mm and 150mm vs 200mm. What would have helped more is better coverage of the two at, say, 100mm where they overlap. You said neither are all that good but the question is which is better. Your video may be getting additional views from new owners of the R7 that optionally comes with a version of the 18-150 leaving the question of whether people want to spend the additional $400 for the kit. If your video draws watchers that don't have an M mount camera, I hope it grows your channel. Who knows, you might even decide to buy an R7.

For daily use for someone like me, someone who is not even a classified amateur, I believe the 18-150 is the better option as it doesnt need changing.

I have the 18-150mm and its great for recording video while I am on the trail backpacking and talking to my microphone for documenting. I have loved my 18-150 is fairly light considering the ability and functionality. I used to also carry the 50 because its wider and clearer but I have decided to do without because of the weight carry when backpacking. Great video, as i was considering adding another lens like the 55-200mm. Very accurate on the nature and wild life photo's or video's. It took me almost a lifetime to finally get the butterfly's & bird I was trying to capture lol...Good stuff, thank you!

You know, it's like smb is spying on me. Quite recently my 18-140 nikkor got damaged, and I bought 55-200 instead. Now I'm in process of learning specific features of new lens. Thank for your video. It gives quite a complex comparison of these two focal distances.

I already have the 18 to 150 and love it but was wondering about the distance for the 55 to 200. Since I have an ef adapter I will probably look at one of the ef zooms that goes to 300mm. That way I can just get the rf/ef adapter when I upgrade my camera in a few years. Thanks for the test shots

Great review. Currently have the stock & 32mm. 22 and one of the zooms were my next purchase. Doing SDCC end of July and trying decide what lenses b best for it with convention floor pics, random people, & some panel rooms r massive to get closer or close up of stage

Can you make a comparison between the efm 55-200, and an (preferably f2.8) ef 70-200? Would you reccomend the viltrox speed booster, or a normal adapter for the ef lens? Great video!

I read that the EF-S 55-250 mm has better optics than the EF-M 55-200 mm for roughly the same price point if you include the EF to EF-M adapter. Downside is it is more bulky. But I think EF glass is more future proof than EF-M glass, seeing that you can convert EF to many other mounts including micro four thirds and RF, and the Blackmagic pocket 6k cameras mounts are also EF. When it comes to portability in an exchangeable lens camera though, EF-M is still king imo.

weird that it's unusual to show the zoom level of a lens, it's like photographers think everyone can visualise 200mm vs 250mm in their brains or something. Nice video appreciated.

Hello Angela! Loving your videos so much, I've been watching a bunch of them. I'm torn with which camera to go for as a beginner. M50 (prob. Mark ii, or M50 used), or EOS R50 after people have time to make more review vids on it. The R50 uses the RF mount but really only could make best use of the RF-S lenses, which there are not many of right now. While I feel bad investing in EF-M practically being dead from Canon's development standpoint, there is some light in the fact that there are a ton of third party lenses and EF lenses to be used so it doesn't seem the worst as a beginner, even though many people do say so. On the other hand, buying a APS-C RF lens wouldn't translate well if I did one day decide to buy a full frame R model. At the end of the day, it would mean if I upgrade, I have to upgrade both camera body + lenses as the RF-S lenses would be poor on the FF. Would you be able to shed some light to help me decide? I would like to shoot landscape primarily, but also wildlife and astro. Astro as I understand is similar to landscape photography in some ways. Thanks!

Excellent comparison, very well done. I have subscribed. If you used a Canon 6 Vii with a 32 mm censor you would have seen a much larger difference between the sharpness of the 55mm -200mm. On better cameras, the difference is not close and I have used both cameras. I gave away my M50 with the kit lens and an adopted 50mm lens. Get yourself the M32mm lens and you will see. it

Hi! When I turn on my camera with My 55-200… the stabilizer that about 5 secondes to turn on. It’s always do that when the camera is off like for 10 min or more. Do you have the same issue? Thank.

Would have be nice if instead of shooting video, you would have shot stills. It could have given us better idea about sharpness and depth.

I’m confused. In your vid you show the 55-200 have greater zoom. But wouldn’t the 18-150 have greater zoom than the 55-200? 18/150=8.3 zoom, whereas 55/200=3.6 zoom?

hey Angela i checked out your video, i know you are pretty busy for replying but if you can reply omg it will help me even more to make a decision about buying the lens. Well, my question is... i know "these two lenses" are pretty good on both doing a good job but my major reason to purchase a telephoto lens is mainly because i do want to capture images of the "MOON". I did saw 2 images about the moon in your 150mm lens but didnt see a capture of the 200mm i really want to get a bigger picture of the moon zoomed in with a crisp or with a focus, but well all i got is a CANON EOS M50 mirrorless, so all i got is a fish eye lens the adapter and well the kit that came with my cam, which is the "ef-m15-45 IS STM" but well thats just for beginners. With all your honesty, will you be able to help me to get the best out of these 2 lenses? like i mean, which one do you think i can get a bigger image of the moon with detail or a good focus from these 2 lenses? the 150mm is better? or the 200mm is better for a good moon picture?
