wow, thank you. Spend the whooole day reassembling it, trying to figure out how this things fits together. Then watched your video and did it in 10 minutes. You showed the missing piece. Sometimes youtube can be just great, thanks again from Berlin. Ciao!

This was a really tricky reassembly. It was the inner aperture ring adjustment I was getting wrong, er, not doing.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. I was ready to give up on ever getting my 28mm back together correctly when I finally stumbled on this video. I never would have figured out the reassembly of the aperture control if it weren't for you. Thanks so frickin much for making this.

Dude! I just can say that I love you. I've failed reassembling an fd 24mm 2.8 that had bushing after my camera falls. My mount just don't turn when I put it on my camera adapter. This is the third day reassembling and I realized that I put that gray piece that moves with the aperture ring in a wrong side. You've save my 24 bro friend

Thank you this was a lifesaver I followed another vid on how to de-click an FD lens. I followed along step by step how to take it apart and get out the ballbearing and then when the whole thing was in pieces the guy says " and now just put it back together". So thanks again my FD 28mm lives on nice and smooth now. D

I saw that guys video as well, that is what inspired me to make this video, I was so frustrated there was no guide. Took me like 5 hours to figure out how to figure out how to put it back together,!

Very good - short enough, no bull or fluff just info. I was gifted three FD lenses: all of which need to be properly re-assembled. Thanks

Hello. I did everything exactly the same as in tutorial (about 50 times), and everything is fine till final locking: there is no way to set two red dots in the same position - the mount rotates and blocking about 7 millimeters earlier. Any ideas what to do with this problem?

Thank you for your video - especially your tip on how to line up the last step of reassembly. Just helped me clean out the rear lens elements on my FD 50 1.8. Saved me hours of head scratching on the crucial final stage.

Good day friend! In your experience, is the front element the same size on the FD and the New FD, or are they different dimensions? Looking to swap elements from the new lens into a SSC body. Appreciate your reply!

I recently de clicked my 35mm fd and using this video I was able to put it all back together. Once I did though the lens was successfully de clicked but my focus ring got extremely stiff. Basically stuck! Any ideas? I’m stuck. Didn’t even get a chance to use the lens. I bought it and f’d it up 😓

@Camera Central. Here's my problem. The top section, or forward section, I'm new so I really don't know all the proper names yet but here goes. First, I have a Canon Brand ''FD'' Lens, so that part may be needed in order to get the correct information. The top section got pulled off. I can't get it in because of the "C'' shape metal clip needs to be removed in order to screw on the outer threaded section. Now I have the ring off but I can't see where I have to position the outer section, so I can reinstall the metal ''C'' clip.....Here's the thing. I have about 20 to 25 Lenses I won in an online auction. I'll be buying a FD to EF adapter so I can use a few of them on my Canon EOS Rebel XS series Camera. I really didn't want to shell out $1,000-$1,500 for a few used Lenses, so I went this route. So if I'm successful at disassembling & assembling Lenses, I'll be selling the rest in a bundle auction. For the whole story, 100% of it, in this one auction I got 16 Lenses for $18.00 with Free Shipping, so the seller actually lost money because the Priority Mail Shipping was either$16.60 for Commercial Rate, or $19.95 for Retail/Online Rate, plus the eBay charges, so for him, all he ended up doing was paying to sell the bundle of Lenses. I believe only taking a couple of pictures, 1 being from 3 feet above an open box with the Lenses sitting inside, plus 1 So with all the cards on the table, lol Help!

Hey.. thanks for putting these videos up.. Really useful. I've got some FD lenses that I need to re-grease the focus rings for. How easy is it to get to the focus threads when disassembling these lenses?

Um... "things" have *names... "align this with that and that with this so that that doesn't catch on this so that that can move freely around this thing..."* might be plausible to you - but not so much for others. There are levers and notches, pins and groves, cams and so on... Things align. ride in or in front of something. Things have dimensions: are we talking of a 2.6mm cam or the 4.8mm one??? Some components are made from zinc and others are nickel-plated stamped metal - all this is information that can be crucial - or a show stopper when missing. A more precise and / or descriptive language would have helped to transform a good video into a fantastic one...

Do you have any advice on how to replace the aperture blades and lens back into the threads and make everything match up correctly? I had an issue with my manual focus and had stripped the whole lens down (both front and rear parts). I have watched both of your videos but don't see how to they can be put back together. (Basically the bit in the middle). Do you have any other videos of dismantling and reassembling the whole lens back together that I could follow step by step?

I'm in the same boat. I've spent 12 hours with my 50mm f/1.8, 1.4, my 28mm f/2.8, and my 100mm f/2.8 and everything is operational until I try to make the red dots match (I can't get on the final silver mount piece because of this)-- I've gone over this video time and time again but, can't find a fix. Any ideas one month later?

I'm in the same position with my Canon 50mm 1.4. I tried looking at my other FD lenses, but they all have this ring that twists around the flanges, rather than twisting the lens to lock it into the mount. Also, sadly, in this video, the fingers and hands are too often blocking the view.
@rexloyer6478
@rexloyer6478 7 жыл бұрын
I did eventually fix my problem. If you follow everything in this video (and don't try to glue first metal ring into divot in aperture ring) when you put it together it should work. I couldn't twist it like in the video, I had to push the small metal prongs to get the FD to go from mount mode to its normal mode (aperture not supposed to change unless it is in mount mode-- only should be in that mode when on camera.) I was working with a nfd 1.4. Google terms 'mount mode' and 'aperture stuck' to find a detailed guide over the location over the metal prongs. Good Luck. These lens are fickle.

Anyone know if the Canon FD 24/2.8 is different than this? I've tried to follow these instructions about a dozen times, and still no luck. -- Thanks... (One problem I'm having is when I tighten down the final silver metal ring...the last part of reassembly, the shorter lever in the back of the lens becomes very hard to move.)
