There is a KZfaq channel on the late Vancouver B.C photographer. Fred Herzog. He was using one of those Canons. He passed in 2019 at the age of 88. assume because of his advanced age he found the size and weight of the camera to be convenient. Keep up your videos and your droll sense of humor.

I've had the WP-1 about 3-5 feet deep in a pool multiple times, so it's great at least for some quick ups and downs ... also, works shockingly well as a typical point and shoot.

Actually WP stands for 'weather proof' as only the previous models were marketed as waterproof. That's why the previous models had a fish on the macro setting and the WP has a flower and the WPs manual states that it is NOT waterproof. Anyhow, the general consensus is that the WP is still the same camera, just not marketed as waterproof because of some people diving too deep and getting water damage in their cameras... haven't tried mine under water though.

So I've got one of these also and did a bit of research. From what I remember from my findings were they are essentially the same camera, however Canon updated the model and changed the manual due to likely some of them leaking at depth. I've used mine underwater and it's an AS-1, what you can do with these which is neat is open the back and unscrew I think four screws and remove the entire 'camera' from the underwater housing then put the housing underwater and see if any bubbles come out - if you clean the seals and lightly vaseline them or something I bet it'll be fine underwater if it doesn't leak in the sink when testing.

It’s funny, but I inherited this camera from my father back in 2009 and I rarely shot film around that time. I totally forgot that I had half a roll of film in there from then and I just got it developed earlier this year and found an awful photo of me with a Bluetooth earpiece. That being said, it’s a very fun durable camera to have.

Off the subject, as a lifelong Southern California resident it pains me to see all these abandoned houses when I can’t even afford to buy a 700 square foot shack. Every time you enter one of these abandoned buildings my mind races as to what would need to be done to make the building livable for the minimum amount of money. As a film photographer I appreciate you testing these varied film cameras. Did you eat anything at the Keene Cafe? I’ve thought about stopping by but envisioned walking in and having locals giving wimpy city slicker me the evil eye.

@dianegative508
@dianegative508 7 ай бұрын
@@grainynesh6232 I have researched that afterwards, and I can agree. But it seems that there is quite a bit of confusion surrounding this and some people who have owned both versions claim that the cameras actually seem to be the same and Canon could have simply released the WP-1 later without claims of underwater security due to inconsistent performance of the other models. But I didn’t dive deep enough to see what’s what, so could just take it at the face value and agree that those are separate models entirely.

@@dianegative508 I never quite understood why all the manufacturers had different names or even just the numbers (looking at you Minolta) for the same camera back in the day anyway. Just makes it more confusing. I mainly recognised the difference because a friend of mine had the AS-1 and it doesn't have the red grip, but the grey one as well as a "fish mode" on the front dial if I'm not mistaken.

Video @ 5:54 "you basically have 4 settings on your front dial" - Actually, the Nikon L35AW (Action Touch) is better suited for the advanced amateur. It has SEPARATE controls for the Manual Focus, the manual Flash and On-Off-Selftimer. A fully METAL battery cap using AA batteries & a METAL film door latch. Add to that a fantastic & faster f/2.8 35mm lens, plus a 'Leave-the-Film-tip-Out' rewind. But like Jason's Canon, the Nikon uses a DX film speed read. Jason mentioned it, but using the available DX stickers on the film cassette, becomes the work-around for those odd folks who shoot other than the DESIGNED BOX SPEED
