this is really the birth child of XF405 + XF705 . I love my XF405, looking forward to upgrade to XF605!

When I bought the XF705 it didn't have an MP4 option until the firmware update, can we expect a similar update which would give us the codecs present in the 605?

excellent review of features as always. I wonder how this camera behaves in difficult lighting conditions and in low light, and it would be interesting to get footage in different conditions with moving people or camera movement

I am quite surprised we don't see many shoulder-mount camcorders these days. I know they're bulky, but sometimes, it's helpful to shoot that way to keep the camera steady.

Great to see it has auto upload to an FTP server. That's a very useful feature a lot of cameras don't have.

I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. Was hoping Sony would put out a new "Z90" ish camera that better matches my FX6 and has a 422 10 bit 4k codec, but now strongly considering this XF605.

Congratulations on the thorough review. Canon has created this camera taking the benefits of the PXW Z90V and AG CX350 in an apparently robust body and with the plus of an excellent focus as well as the madness of the different codecs to record in each SD. this is such good timing for this product - was looking at the Panasonic AG-CX350's but with Canon's superior auto focus this may be the better option

I have several XF400 camcorders and I love the dual pixel focus which makes it very easy to manually focus. Is there any difference between the XF400/405 and the XF605 on how autofocus works?

Hi Carl, how is the slow zooming using the rocker? Is it consistent? What I used to find frustrating about these camera forms is that I like to zoom with my left hand while making moves with my right...a habit from using broadcast cameras. Anyway, it looks like a nice camera!

@proavtv can you rotate the grip like you could on the XF205? That XF205’s formfactor was my favorite Prosumer camera offering from Canon, but I missed out on it since I already had an XF105 for HD, and it didn’t do 4K.

Just purchased one. I also read it is a good B-cam to Canon Cinema line such as C300 III, C500, and C70. It is. Many people will sleep on this camera. With the clogs in it... it is fantastic.

How is the view ability on the screen? I've been using an original XF-100 for a few years and I love it, despite it not being touchscreen. I've also used my filming partner's Canon G50's and I can't stand the limited viewing angles on that camera's tiny screen when looking at it from above. If you move your head or arm to far the wrong way the screen darkens and you can't see what you're filming. Is it the same screen on this XF605 or is it similar to the XF100's screen, which doesn't have that issue? (Hope that all made sense lol)

We use C70/C200/EOSR for film creation and XF305/XF300/XF300 for livestream or ENG. ...but we have been considering the XF705 to update the ENG but, with 10bit 422 Clog3, it could also be a bit of a crossover for the film creation. I'm struggling to understand why now we wouldn't go for the 605 except that we all like the slightly larger form factor.

do you think there will be a updated model to this any time soon

Great video, thank you, trying to make a decision between this and the Sony Z280 in a kit of a Sony EX1r and Sony PWM X200; would the XF605 match to the Sony 3 1/2” chip colour science? Pricing locally is fairly close (XF605 is cheaper) but the Canon seems to offer better ‘all rounder’ options of more shallow depth of field, 4K 60p with 120 frame 1080; state of the art steady shot and auto focusing with touchscreen option to set target etc with biggest drawbacks for me the lack of streaming ability and perhaps poorer lowlight capability; love to see a head to head comparison, but obviously their strengths and weaknesses will suit different operators according to their specific needs

Super video. But I think that the new Canon XF 605 is a little bit to heavy, 2 kg, and to large for any prosumer. So I have to wait for a new Sony AX 800 with 50/60p 8 bit or higher. ;))

It may not be a big thing for most ppl but sony MI shoes with their wireless mic is what make me stay with them....never has to worry about battery and xlr cable is a huge blessing.... 20x zoom will be much better for live event though.

Each barrel of honey should have its own fly in the ointment. The vaunted autofocus Canon only works with the outdated B.709 color space. For modern HDR/B.2020 or C.Gamut, both autofocus and focus assistance is not supported (see the manual). In all your focus demonstrations, you use only B.709. Show how it will focus in B.2020 or Log 3/C.Gamut. As a result, you need to choose whether to shoot for old devices, but with a sharp, focused picture, or shoot for modern HDR monitors and TVs, but without focus. Thank you Canon.

Seems like the C70 in the menus but they gave this eye AF. I wonder if the AF is like the R5 then.

The XF705 looked so promising but the 2 showstoppers were the hard to work with h.265 codecs for the 10bit 4:2:2 profiles and the price point. So with the XF605 Canon solved those points for me and I might put my trusty old XF305 to the rest. BTW, did Canon still give up with any timelapse features in this camera? Making timelapse with the XF305 was pretty annoying - especially the PAL version where you could only get 2 or more consecutive frames per time unit - which made the feature useless. And they stripped the feature out of the XF705 and XF405.

Can we livestream directly from this camera without using a Teradek or liveuSolo ? Separately can you do a low light comparison with C70 & Canon r5 and r6 ?

I gave in, I need a ENG type camera for events. Mine will be here Tuesday. I will have the perfect test on the next political rally. It has a place for sure. The Mirrorless cameras look amazing but no digital zooms without the super expensive attachments and by then your camera looks like it's on life support.

Finally! I want to retire my two XF305 cameras and I decided to skip the XF400/405 and I can't afford the XF705 so I was looking at the Panasonic AG-CX10-even with its small sensor but I was waiting for a real new XF camcorder from Canon and the 605 may be it...how would this compare to the Panasonic AG-CX10? I know this AG-CX10 is not good in low light...but will Canon XF605 be a low light king? I have used a C100 mk2 several times and of course the super35 sensor is amazing in low light (with a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8) and even at very high ISOs...but I need a camcorder sometimes for sports and live events. Will this XF605 be the best 4k real camcorder for 2021? can't wait for some comparisons...much better than the XF400? etc

Can the lens be changed?

Oh.. The sensor is too small (1 inch), It should have been full frame like the R5 (with a small fan even) which inside the bigger 605 body size would NOT overheat, It would have much more low-light ability ( I had the 300). or It could have been APSC sensor, which easily copes with the 10 bit codec in this day and age (The Panasonic F.Frame S1h and S5 has it at half the price)! or even M43 sensor which is Panasonic's successful Minimum pro-level size for that crisp image. I have the AX100 with 1" sensor, It's not bad but Not as crisp as M43, APSC, or Full frame. Only then this 605 could have beaten Sony's F6 and even other pro-level brands. I am serious, I would have rushed to get it. But this 605 will have a great AF no doubt.
