inspiring mindset to push through the trauma and get back on the horse literally immediately.. i was in this situation in sumatra when my leash was ripped from my ankle, that was in 2018 and havent been the same with getting caught inside or wipeouts in general since!! pathetic
@REECEAVA
@REECEAVA 4 ай бұрын
@@harrisonedwardz I think that is really inspiring but also scary and dangerous for most novices. The difference is. Nate never believes he is under threat, he has been rag dolled by the most powerful waves, Escondido, chupo, the reason he goes back out is because he is chasing getting barrelled at back door or pipe, that feeling for him outweighs the potential risk of getting rejected on the way out.
@tylerh1648
@tylerh1648 Ай бұрын
@@REECEAVA He also has an unreal level of fitness and experience that can get him out of dangerous situations. I would drown out there in nearly everything he surfs.

Well Done Nate. This was what we were talking about with Ben Gravy's episode last year. Stuck in the washing machine zone. You did Perfect! Conserve energy and then go hard when a wave is about to hit you. Let the waves pound you in, whatever you do, don't duck them.

I know every video is cut bet I don’t see a crack of animosity amongst them,, Very Proud of the boys Keep the videos coming Nate Side note Koa Rothman another well adjusted great kid. I’d be proud to have any of them as a son, That said my adult chiidren after my divorce from their Mom played me like a fiddle after I paid for me oldest daughter’s wedding they all existed my life??? We were the tightest family, I worked like a slave to provide a comfortable life?? Zero Abuse All Love? And I waited an extra 10 years for them to grow up not to mess them up with a divorce! Big Uggh and a Mountain of Pain took 5 years to settle with the abandonment, and 5 grandchildren Ive never seen plus they live local, Even if they reached out? I’d never let them back in. Just wanted to let you all know Why I wrote about the brothers, and my emotions poured out into my family Mahalo Aloha All

Nate, You just experienced a session very similar to one I had a few weeks back in Northern, CA. Let me set the scene... my break was not Backdoor or even close and there was no "reverse" current. Well maybe my skillset could qualify as a "Reverse" current. I got stuck in the impact zone at Fort Cron and lets just say it took a while to get back out to the takeoff area. When I arrived back out my buddy Chase asked, "Where've you been I thought you left?"... well I sorta did. I love the fact that you show us the Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Stay safe... Ohana

best sesh ever :) proud of you :) i like that first song by the way :) great choice and adds a nice vibe to the video, and its 10 times better than garter on the barber shop striped arm wearing ragtime music from the old fashioned parlor era :) this session looks not entirely too different from my session conditions today, although admittedly yours was harder core, bigger, and more walled up (i actually liked my peaky waves more i have to say :) and you got some better rides (no surprise there). that said, i was already so very happy and thankful for my little session today, especially after pain keeping me from the water, but after seeing this, i am even more happy and thankful. and while we both had somewhat noticeable rip activity (i was dragged south down the beach the entire time (even though i still managed to catch peaks throughout), and coming in was a tiny bit hectic as it was dragging me sideways and pulling me out also, it was nothing compared to yours. also, im happy and thankful i was not doing that with a broken board, especially since i am not sponsored to just get a handful of quiver replacements if something happens, and the board i am on is extra special to me. anyway, seeing these kinds of videos always makes me happy :) be good :)

@Dobertathon Perhaps but not worse than an undertow ;p At least it's close to shore. But that is not backdoor proper. edit to add: you must not be familiar with the huge riptides in Indo or Alaska with the massive tide changes. It's a good example, even if it is close to shore and shallow.

Even doing a chain? Even when there are bad rips and potential drowning victims trying to fight to get into shore people here get in chain formation just to get to the person. That wouldn’t have worked there even when he was getting closer? Personally if it was me I would have been pissed with all the onlookers and not even attempting to try to save someone? I thought that was kind of heartless.
@seancallahan1312
@seancallahan1312 4 ай бұрын
@@anthonylove821 You're totally correct in thinking people should be more aware of what's going on around them. But as to attempting any help other than repeated calls to 911 for North Shore lifeguards? Sorry, unless a real waterman was in that group (which I doubt, cause he would have been a little away from them, eyes on the swimmer in distress, not looking away, concentrating and getting ready for a rescue, telling people to get ready to call 911, etc.) but any of them even attempting a chain would've got rolled. As many people who tried to help (in that manner) would be how many rescues a professional would've had to do. Those beatings are way worse than they look and someone without heavy water experience couldn't take the hits or the leg-sweep underneath. I'm not saying that's a bad technique elsewhere, but in this particular situation? Nope. Ben Gravy got pressed really hard here and he's ventured into heavy water, he's more than got his toes in with those big Jersey days and traveling so much. (I did surf rescue in N. Ca. for years, plus have rescued I don't know how many off the clock. Better to call 911 if you're not certain of your abilities unless it's a total non-swimmer/kid that slipped in. Just know you're risking your own life also in that situation as well as complicating any further rescue. But every situation is different. So many times we had to rescue 2, 3, 4 people when it would've been just one. Especially dealing with capsized sailboats offshore. Sorry, I hope this all makes sense. It's late, but you're exactly the kind of person who needs to know these things, cause other people don't even ask the right questions, like you did. Here's Nate talking about Ben Gravy's close call and breaking down the video, same exact spot. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJ54hKVymcrMj2w.htmlsi=vcFrgGyOVejtPBMM&t=926
