Hey Guys! After our EXO Tempo reaction, a lot of you guys requested we react to Zhang Yixing who also goes by LAY. In EXO, he was known as Lay Exo, but now it's just Lay I guess. So the song we're reacting to is called namanana, and this is the chinese version so in chinese it's called 夢不落雨林. It's funny cause we thought this was a kpop reaction, but it wasn't until I was editing that I realized that the song is actually in English. Before this though, we actually watched some clips of LAY pre-debut, and his predebut clips were interesting, you'll see how it is! But all we have to say is for this namanana video, he definitely did a lot of dance practice leading up to it :)
Also, he's getting really popular in the west! He even did an interview with buzzfeed in English! We were surprised to see that he did a collaboration with Jason Derulo called let's shutup and dance which we checked out after :)

BTW WE KNOW WE GOT A LOT WRONG! Sorry guys! We try to go for like first time watching reaction with little context so we can get a fresh opinion of him. At the same time, I know it's not fun to hear wrong facts about your favourite artists, so we definitely understand how you guys feel. If someone started shouting wrong facts about people who I really love, I'd be upset too! Edward and Mike were bombarding me with questions, and I kinda felt like I had to answer even though I didn't really know。 I'll do some basic research next time so I can give them more context beforehand, and hopefully we can continue to improve! Thanks a lot for the input guys :) We're constantly trying to improve and do better, so to hear you guys give honest feedback is really nice! To be honest it probably helped him a lot because now he always gets on trainees about “balance” and having sharp movements. He’s very strict about dancing.

Zhang Yixing didn't leave EXO. He made arrangements with the management to allow him to expand his solo career in China. And he works really hard to dance so well today, he shared that when he's a trainee he dances more than 10hrz everyday, taking only 10mins break for meals and he has serious back problems from intense dancing.

Great reaction, love it! Just have something to say, he is the only Chinese member are left in EXO, and this song have a English version, and this one is the Chinese version, this album also have both Chinese and English ver. and the other mv " Give me a chance" he made his debut in U.S.!

i’m weak. Lay is till an EXO member he just can’t be with the group right now because of the Hallyu ban China has against Korea right now. Lay is also a Chinese ambassador so he has a status in china and that is why he’s affected. He never left the group, he’s doing solo projects to put his name out there as Lay Zhang.

Yixing inspired me to learn Chinese. I loved his aesthetic and looked him up and bam found a bunch of Chinese versions of EXO songs. Pretty soon after that I started teaching myself Mandarin. So lowkey... he’s the reason why I’m watching this video right now.

Lay works too hard he basically took workaholic and then took it to the next next level. He takes his laptop everywhere with him and works non stop on music. He loves dancing but i think his passion for music is stronger. He has so many people wanting to colab with him and I don't blame them. Americans trying to get into the Chinese market is hella hard but once you do you can rake in so much if they like you. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I really love our reaction but he is actually pushing Mpop(mixed mandarin pop), he has been in his solo career for four years and all his solo stuffs are in Chinese or English, also his team and studio is in China so no part of it can be called kpop. Just saying

The reason Zhang Yixing is such a good dancer now is because he worked unbelievably hard and tied sand bags to his waist causing a permanent waist injury. I will forever support him because he truly deserves it😢

This is the title song from his album Namanana. The album has 11 English songs and 11 Chinese versions of the same songs. You may want to check out his English version ‘Give me a chance’ MV. Lay is amazingly talented, he composes and produces his own album.

I read somewhere that lay tied sandbag weights to his arms and legs while practicing dancing so that he can make his moves quicker and sharper and he kinda did some damage to his back as a result and has to continue to go to physio still. I always admired his talent but also how hardworking and kind he is.

Just want to clarify that the music Lay is composing and producing right now is M-pop, not K-pop. Namanana is actually very Lay's style that you can hear the heavy bass at the background and for this album, he is kind of focusing on the rainforest theme. And he designed the MV with the director and really spent a lot on this music video. If u guys cannot understand his Chinese version of namanana, there is an English version too. Also, for EXO's Tempo, he just participates a little cuz he cannot go to the comeback stages and other group activities in Korea and some members in Exo is going to serve in the army very soon, so he came back to unite with other members.

Going into it blind, I guess I can see how you might have thought it was a Korean song, since he's an EXO member. And a lot of people that don't follow EXO don't understand Lay's situation, so you shouldn't feel bad about that! Lay is the only current Chinese member of EXO (there used to be 3 others), and his solo career is focused in China. His music has been exclusively in Mandarin up until the release of his album NAMANANA October of last year, for which he recorded each song in both English and Mandarin. It's still on the World Album charts at number 13! He speaks English, and has been doing collaborations with western artists (Alan Walker, Jason Derulo, Far East Movement, Bazzi (who he wrote several songs with), etc) over the past year or so.

SM should let Yixing promote with EXO again because one minute I was laughing so hard with the video and when the guy said "maybe that's why he left the group" my heart hurt so bad. We miss him already.

Lay has not left EXO. There was a 2 year ban on the Korean Wave in China, and due most likely, to his type of Visa, he was not allowed, to actually work during this ban. Yes, there are plenty other Chinese artists going between China and Korea, and are still working with their groups. The members of EXO, while mostly likely not the first, are probably some of the oldest Chinese members to have debuted in Korea, which was back in 2012. Now, given the ban, it seems between both China and Korea, he was caught in the middle, and it was best to pursue his work, at home, in China. This is his third album, not his first. Last year he officially had his official American debut and toured the states. He has built his own studio, as he is a seasoned songwriter, composer and producer. He is the last remaining Chinese member of EXO leaving the group, at 9 members. Kris, Luhan and Tao left due to unfair practice under SM. Lay chose to stay despite these problems which still, to some degree exist.
