I was born in 89 and played hockey until I was 18. I liked Sakic and Yzerman growing up but obviously Bure and Gino too. Most of the guys talk in front of the media about how much they love Vancouver, the organization and how much they want to stay. When it comes to it, at some point the rubber needs to meet the road! This is one of those contracts! Hronek took a discount and committed long term. The Hughes and Hronek pairing were one of the most dynamic defensive offensively minded duo's last season, if not the best. That's a elite pairing locked down for at least the next 3 seasons before Hughes will need to get re-signed.

I swear some of the fans are morons. They will be nooo now we can't sign Z. Wake up Z wants big bucks and has never shown the consistency to be a night in and night out top 4 guy in his career. He will get paid, but just remember that the contract could be an anchor in a few years. Hronek is younger and has proven to be easily a top 4 player and is more likely a top line dman. Yet you have these people who seen Z play some playoff hockey and want the team to sign him long term with a big cap hit. Noooooooo you don't sign these players deep. You sign the core players deep. Look what Detroit did years ago with these bottom 6 forwards and 4/5 dmen. Anyone???? They signed them deep, and the contracts went to sh!@ very quickly. Z isn't a foundation player. Hronek is. To think ok sign Z for 5 + million or more is really stupid unless you have massive amounts of cap, you are close to a cup, or you can get him signed short term. Mark my words Z will on the tradeblock in either next years trade deadline or the one after that, and that team will be retaining to trade him.

Contract seems perfectly fair. Any more would be too much, any less would be a bargain.
