I don't think Leif was planning to replace Thorffin. He says in the show there was a mix up. He most likely heard of a slave called Thorffin who looked like Thorffin and forked over the money before seeing the slave. Or maybe he got scammed😂.

He's always shown regret over not being able to buy the freedom of the slaves he encounters. I always assumed that Bug-Eyes was the one slave he couldn't say no to.

Such a small world indeed. Denmark is rather tiny, but at that period in time, there was only so many gathering places where trading was prominent, and Jelling was one of them. So it isn't that far fetched that Leif would run into Ketil here, seeing as Leif is relentless in his pursuit of Thorfinn, and Jelling would be a big center of information.

I think we might've seen the other Thorfinn "Bug Eyes" before. Remember when you were confused about Canute and you thought he was a fraud? You thought the actual Canute was the random kid we saw that Leif was looking at. I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be when Leif purchased Bug Eyes.
