@@tangodragonfruit5544 I mean, how hard would it be to take a switch off a trigger, and solder the wires on the alarm?
@douglassmalls6934
@douglassmalls6934 Жыл бұрын
@Tango Dragonfruit That wouldn't work, most explosives need either heat or a powerful shockwave to detonate. For example ANFO, a common explosive that is readily made at home, requires another explosion to set it off. Just fire or electricity won't work. You need to connect the wires to a specifically designed detonator and that would require greater voltage. So you would need to connect the alarm voltage to a relay or other switching device to tell the detonator to ignite.

Piece of advice from a fellow multiple-alarms guy : the trick is to have the alarms close enough to one another so that you can't fall back asleep completely between 2 alarms. Like, having 10 minutes between alarms is useless, because you're back to a deep sleep after 10 min so the second alarm is just as bad at pulling you out of sleep as the first one. From my testing, the optimal time is 3 minutes. 5 is acceptable, but less efficient.

@@novictim Digital appliances are very rarely truly off. They go into standby. The power supply is still converting a tiny bit of power to power a board to check if the power button is pressed. Not many things you plug in have a true switch that kills all power to the device. Oddly my wife just got a computerized sewing machine and it does just that, flip the switch and no more power. Everything else goes into standby.

Mehdi...with those power tools, seriously, you're killing me. Would you like to see the scar from where I drilled into my palm when the bit broke through because I was holding the workpiece to save time, instead of using a vice or other proper method of holding the work? Or the scar from where I sliced through my finger, because I was holding the workpiece while cutting it, instead of using a vice or other proper method of holding the work - to save time? The trips to the ER did not end up saving me any time. I learned the hard way. Don't be me!

I would recommend using a stepper motor instead of a DC motor. This way each time the alarm goes off it moves a set amount, you could also use the microcontroller controlling the stepper motor as a timer, so you wouldn't need an alarm.

I think he knows how to make something way more efficient. He just made a fun video out of an alarm clock, and you have to comment about how YOU think it would be better. Jeez man.. talk about being self centered.

Just use a timer output and switch relays with it. You can switch as many capacitors as you want.

Mehdi doesn't use microcontroller in his projects. It adds an extra layer of fun and challenge to try designing electrical devices without computerization. Plus, if he were to use a microcontroller for everything, we wouldn't learn nearly as much about how electricity works.

Make the capacitor holder two pieces by splitting the body along the circumference midplane of the rotor disc. Then make it to where you can secure them together with 3-4 equally spaced screws accessible on the front circular face. You could even make the capacitor holes a little smaller so it holds them more snugly, and then the caps won't rotate in place when the alarm clock goes off.

Or just put large metal pads on either side of the wheel with a little notch each leg can fit into (to make changing them out easy,) and treat it like a brushed motor

You can improve your design by adding brushwire to the capacitor legs to keep them from bending and then also adding a divider between live and ground on the igniter. This wave you'll have almost a guaranteed chance of having all the capacitors blowing up

It may be because he took apart a whole alarm clock only to realize he only needed the contacts of the motor...which I'm not sure if he realized, but he could have just used to drive the capacitor wheel instead of a whole dissected drill.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this! Hahaha. I used to think Mehdi did it because his degrees are in pure Electronics and just worked as an engineer but I saw someone say he has engineering degrees so he probably did all that in school and just prefers the chaos of analog design 😂
