One day people will understand the power of air humidity and shade. You heard here first. ;) If a costal city is running out of water it's because of sheer lack of thinking from all parties neglecting the natural filtration system provided by the soil and evaporation. Just think, people.

In Russia and Moscow we've got plenty of water so far. I wish I could share it with the people in need.

I don't get how the old lady could possibly feel good about drilling for water to fill up her pool and water her lawn while she recognizes that the rest of Cape Town is suffering privations under the water shortage. She is depriving others of groundwater resources to keep herself comfortable.

As far as she is concerned, it isn't her problem, the vast majority of people have this thinking, they just don't have the money to actually act on it. Later they talk about people cracking open pipes to fill a bucket and run, same thinking, less money.

Yes, in many water stressed countries you would need a permit to drill for water. She is basically taking from a shared, stressed resource without any good reason.

Understandable that she's happy and she spent tons of money to make it happen so now a return is possible. But the least she could do is charge a fractional price for the drinkable water for her community to help the less fortunate and at the same time try to recoup the financial losses.

Cape Town should have five or six large desalination plants on the coast. Israel gets 95% of its water from its desalination plants. StocktonRob

It disgusts me that the woman living in the nice house was using all that water on herself, I thought that she was going to donate it.

Look, South Africa, you're an ocean facing nation, you can invest in solar panel farms, wind farms, and desalination plants to ease the water shortage. Take a loan from China if you have to, people can't live without water. You're not sure to find underground water, but ocean water is available, invest long term in water, and energy.

Well the idea it’s to expensive doesn’t make sense, obviously something it’s wrong with the system who doesn’t allow the Market to take care of this problem... Are you suggesting that it’s no value proposition to offer water 💦 to millions of people? Maybe what you should say is my country doesn’t value private property and regulates the cost of water in other to artificially make lower than the real cost, making illogical to any one to invest in the solution of this problem.

The bulk of South Africans would not be able to afford the water, and the cost of borrowing for South Africa would likely be too high. I don't recall what the alternative proposed some years ago was. It was not desalination. Unfortunately, the federal government refused to act.
