It's called being humble. The young guy instigated it and didn't seem to want to back down. Ovi finally accepted the challenge and knocked him out. After that, you don't want to come off as pompous. Ovi had the right tone.

I get the coach wanting to back up his player; he's not gonna stand there and tell the media the kid deserved it. However, they keep making him sound like he's brand new to the game of hockey. The kid is 19 with a body maturity of a 25 year old playing in the NHL. He is big enough and old enough to fight. This was straight over confidence going up against experience.

Brind’Amour’s take on the fight was absolutely ridiculous. He obviously hadn’t watched the replay, nor did he acknowledge what happened in game 1 between them, so he’s just going based on his own internalized bias, which basically means defending your player at all costs. It’s fine to defend your player, but don’t misrepresent what happened, just because you feel bad for him. It’s hockey, fights happen, and if you get knocked out like that, you shouldn’t put yourself in that position next time.

Rod...you SAW what happened. Don't say you don't know. The kid challenged Ovey (on video) and was on his way to throwing gloves, when Ovey knocked him into next week. Also, Rod, the kid hasn't been in a fight for 90 some games? Ovey's been in the league for how many years, and been in how many fights? Hey, the kid obviously w I'manted to throw down (again, clear on video), maybe thinking he can intimidate the "old man*, and Ovey showed him what was up. And as for the kid's age, Rod? If he's old enough to play with men, then he"s a man, and this is the Playoffs. So they've been slashing.and cross checking each other for a game and a half. Oh, well! Playoff Hockey, kid!

Nobody in Russia condemns Ovi On the contrary they say that svech was wrong and out of the line. There should be some respect there he'll learn his lesson!!!

I lost a lot of respect for the Hurricanes organization based on the way they handle the situation (which I also think was way over blown). But it is so obvious they both agreed and Svech just made a rookie mistake challenging Ovi. Live and learn, that’s hockey

Very bad - I wish A.O. would have just skated away. It was an 18 or 19 year old kid. I predicted the Capitals would repeat - but now I'm throwing a curse on them.
