Exactly what the Marvel press teams is praying you'll believe. Back in 2021 Sebastian Stan said on record Mackie hadn't texted him for months. One of the big reasons they paired Sebastian Stan with Anthony Mackie for every interview is because Stan is known to be extremely laid-back and gets along with everyone. He makes a point of really knowing every member of his film crews and makes sure everyone -- from the director to the makeup artists to the studio cleaners -- receive "wrap," or end of shoot gifts. Mackie is known for very opposite behaviour. Yet, Mackie knows he has a show and an image to sell, so buddy-buddy it is. 🤷‍♀

One of the things I loved about this movie is that it showcases Tony's and Steve's character arcs really well, tying all the previous movies together. In Iron Man 1, Tony shouts in court about having privatised security. But because of his guilt, he is now the one arguing for them to be constrained by a central Authority. In Capt America 1, Steve is the embodiment of the good soldier. He listened to Authority without hesitation or question. But because of his experience with SHIELD, he is now arguing to remove Authority from controlling him and to have the Avengers remain their own private security organisation. It's really clever storytelling how they've developed these perspectives over multiple movies to have it culminate in this one.
@flatebo1
@flatebo1 9 ай бұрын
In Captain America 1 Steve ditches the USO show and heads out without orders to rescue Bucky and the other prisoners. Yes, he turns himself in for disciplinary action as soon as they return, but Steve has always been a guy to do what's right, not what he's told. So when those in authority are just in the exercise of that authority, i.e. when they are also morally right, Steve will obey that authority. And when they're wrong, he won't.

"I'm gonna sit here, so you move the leg." Robert Downey Jr. improvised that little line and made it sound so naturally Tony. Tom Holland had his leg up on the bed, but Tony has to sit down next to him in the scene. So Downey makes it part of the scene without even thinking about it.

I was split. My head was with Team Cap but my heart was with Tony, not TEAM Tony, just Tony. A line that people kind of gloss over is what he says right after "Oh! You two knew each other?" He says, "He mentioned you just a couple thousand times. God I hated you." Tony must've had a BITTER resentment for Steve growing up, and that resentment probably shaped much of his life. (Of course, that's obviously not Steve's fault) He's a fragile psyche that's lost everything in his life except his money. And as Howard himself said, "No amount of money ever bought a second of time."
@insertnamehere2746
@insertnamehere2746 9 ай бұрын
I do remember that line, and then you see Cap's reaction cause he kinda realizes another reason why Tony has been so hard to get along with from the beginning. No matter all the good Cap did back in WW2 in how he saved people, Tony would never be able to appreciate it and have respect for Cap because Howard spent so much time talking about him. Then again, Stark does not have respect for many things because he is so smart that he can create extremely powerful things.

@@Serryy The way Tony irresponsibly tricks Peter, a 14-year-old child, into fighting superheroes for him really highlights how Tony is in the wrong here. Not only big picture - that Tony recruits a child to help him fight superheroes - but also in their discussion. Peter tells him "when you have this power, if you don't do anything with it, then it's your fault when something bad happens." You know, the literal opposite of what Tony wants in signing the accords; he wants to absolve himself of responsibility because he feels guilty about how he's fucked up. And so he wants to give the responsibility of controlling his power over to somebody else, ANYBODY else, rather than take responsibility for himself. (For his own power. Tony's philosophy in Civil War, if we could sum it up in a pithy manner, might be said as "with great power, comes no responsibility, give that to somebody else because it's really heavy".)

They don't mention Uncle Ben at all in this film; for all we know, he could be on a business trip to Kentucky or wherever. But those of us who know the Spider-Man story know he's probably dead, and when Peter talks about how if you have the power to stop bad things from happening and you don't, then it's your fault, he's most likely blaming himself for Ben's death. Tony misses that, though, and thinks it's just a general sense of responsibility. Which makes me feel Peter's lonely guilt all the more.

@@nkosikhonangidi7251 No he didn't, and no he didn't. He knew HYDRA was behind killing Tony's parents. He didn't know it was Bucky; really, it's pretty fucking stupid to blame Bucky. Tony did Bucky and Steve wrong by blaming the 100 years tortured POW for being beaten, tortured, and brain-washed into doing Hydra's bidding. There's a reason Tony is the villain in the Captain America movie: he's operating on dark side emotions like anger and hatred, lashing out in his grief at those who don't deserve it. This might be my favorite MCU movie if only because it does go in such a different direction from what we'd seen. Great idea to use Ant Man and Spider-Man as the comic relief during the airport fight. They're the ones with the least amount on the line, so them being more light hearted works wonderfully. Something to note is that Tony and Steve are both in very emotionally vulnerable places at this point. Tony's lost Pepper and we've seen 3 movies shows us how important she is to him. Steve loses Peggy in this movie and she was the last real connection to the world he used to be in, which makes his search for Bucky so much more important to him. So they're both already on edge and now in a very difficult situation. Adding to that is Vision's growing feelings for Wanda and that clouds his judgment too. He's basically a computer, he should have calculated that Sam would dodge the energy beam causing that to hit Rhodey. In a sense, this movie is about the people who need to be laser focused at a critical time, aren't and how badly that affects those around them.

The vibranium BP suit doesn't enhance physical abilities. It doesn't make the wearer any stronger or faster, it simply makes them bulletproof and provides surveillance/monitoring capabilities (night vision, communication etc). In that sense it's kind of like the Iron Man suits but it doesn't have any built-in weapons other than claws. The Black Panther himself is the weapon, the suit is protection. Technically BP's abilities exceed that of Bucky and Cap, it's just in the MCU they decided to boost the definition of "super soldier" significantly. In the comics, he would be no stronger than DC's Batman, only a peak human in the physical sense, but no innate combat ability. In the MCU, they keep making them stronger and stronger, to the point where in F&TWD they were straight mini-Spider-Men.

He’s late but he’s finally starting to take accountability and wants to able to continue as Iron Man. Vision delivered a good argument without being hypocritical. He literally knows his own strength. To ordinary people, he’s basically god-level like Thor. For Sam and Rhodey, they didn’t have much of a choice. Even if they did, they were still gonna side with their respective best friends - and not just because of their friendships with them. Rhodey, for instance, is still an active member of the American military whereas Sam has seen the things that Steve saw during the HYDRA uprising. The language T’Chaka spoke is Xhosa. It’s widely spoken in South Africa which is where his actor John Kani is from. Zemo’s actor Daniel Brühl grew up speaking German through his father. He also learned Spanish and Catalan from his mother. Daniel reprised his role as Zemo for the German dub. Sebastian Stan is good at speaking Romanian because he grew up in Constanța, and unless I’m mistaken he did his own motorbike stunt. The elite death squad included some of the actors’ stunt doubles at the time. In a deleted scene when Clint and Nat were fighting: Nat: Don’t you think Laura would be disappointed? Clint: Who, in me or you? In another deleted scene, Nat watches the fight in horror after recovering from Wanda’s attack. While evading War Machine, Cap loses his shield. Bucky grabs it and throws it to War Machine. It bounces off of him and Falcon throws it back to Cap. Cap: Nice save. Bucky: I gotta get me one of those. What’s most interesting about Zemo is that he messed with the Avengers without laying a finger with them. CinemaWins goes into further detail as to how and why his plan worked. In the Latin Spanish dub, when Tony grabs Bucky in the silo, the dialogue gets changed a bit but holds the same meaning: Tony: Do you at least remember my parents? Bucky: I carry them in my mind, too! I also think that Nat and Sam knew about it as well. Nat was with Steve when Zola showed them the article. She also dug up some info on Bucky which might have included some info about that night. And of course, Sam would help Steve look for him. “Tony Stank” is still my favorite Stan Lee cameo in terms of comedy. Also, you know it’s a cool scene when you put three legends in the same room.

Other than that, this was a magnificent film. Truly a film that split everyone's opinions. But so well done. It really made people think. Honestly, I don't get how some people don't feel for Bucky. @@DCMarolas it's one of the reasons that the comic book world and the real world can't coexist. The comic book heroes don't need oversight because it's the heroes that are the 'higher authority' and intrinsically trustworthy. There's not one thing the Avengers had done to this point that was nefarious or ill-intended, just some unfortunate collateral damage from fighting the bad guys. Nuanced rules can't account for those things happening, no matter who is making the decisions.
@babadoudidadouda

While I get what you're saying and even partially agree, the accords could have still been reworked without too much fuss, had the Avengers sign the original draft or even just be more open to compromises and discussion. But Team Cap didn't try to use diplomacy, didn't show up to the UN meeting (the one where King T'Challa died) where they could have pleaded their case of why the current form of the accords didn't suit them or even about why they were against the idea of the accords (However, considering 117 countries sign on. Legally, it wasn't their place to decide if the accords would pass or not; even if I still agree they should have had more of a say in them from the start). Steve went straight to "my way or the highway", and I'm going to break the law/use violence without trying for more peaceful and lawful solutions first. I think this movie did a good job showing Steve's vulnerabilities and flaws (his stubborn self-righteousness, for instance) and made him a more complex character. So I'm not really into the "Paragon of Justice" Steve version some fans prefer (which is their right and perfectly fine; only speaking of my preference). Steve is a good man, but he's not Superman.

You mentioned Tony and Steve being like siblings. That's 100% accurate. Steve was Howards biggest creation. And he would tell Tony about Steve all the time. His entire life, he felt that his father was more proud of Captain America, and loved him more. Tony always felt like the little brother in his "perfect" older brother's shadow: always not good enough, and constantly needing to prove himself to a father that wasn't there anymore. Tony always acted towards Steve with sibling rivalry; angry that Steve was the pride of the family, and he being the forgotten son. And he was always trying to outrun that ghost. That's where a lot of Tony's damage/trauma comes from. Steve always acted like he didn't understand why his brother was acting like that because he'd only been kind and understanding and fair towards him. And in this movie, Steve "choosing" Bucky over Tony... that actually broke Tony's heart. He felty abandoned by Steve when Steve didn't sign the accords. And choosing Bucky was the final nail in the coffin. Tony felt betrayed and abandoned by his brother. It parallels Thor and Loki's relationship a tiny bit.

And Tony gets to "pay for everything and design everything and make everybody look cooler" (Age of Ultron), but everybody treats Steve as the leader. And Steve gets to snap at Tony for being a "big man in a suit’ (Avengers) and blast him for "keeping secrets" (like YOU'RE one to talk!) and make Tony feel even guiltier about Ultron (which was Tony's fault, but literally nobody else was even trying to do something to stop the aliens from coming back). No wonder when Wanda puts the Hex on Tony, he imagines STEVE blaming him for the world being destroyed. Meanwhile, Steve can't even say "thank you" for a damn pen. FFS.

A lot of people seem confused when Cap says he knew Buck killed Tony's parents, but it was one of the stories brought up in The Winter Soldier when Cap infiltrates the old hydra base. He learned the Winter Soldier killed the Starks, not long before finding out it was Bucky who became him. Spider-Man was the real selling point of this movie when the first posters were released. He was _instrumental_ to the comic storyline that inspired this, so much so the story was essentially a battle of who could win him over and therefore win the fight. Back in 2016, Sony was messing up bad and it looked like we'd not get a Spider-Man for a while. Then Marvel dropped the first poster with an Iron Man arm and Cap arm grabbing at opposite ends of Spidey's arm, and it broke the internet. Not only a new Spidey, but also, finally in the MCU. Him catching the Winter Soldiers bionic arm like it was nothing is still in my top 5 MCU moments, the rest of which come after this movie.

Funny how everybody has such faith in Stark tech that nobody wonders why everybody's favourite Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist failed to provide his airborne BFF with the same parachute that commenters believe is like a magic carpet for Sam (Never mind that using a parachute is in no way foolproof) ? Or a backup power source, maybe? Or an ejection seat, at least? Also, Rhodey is the one who commands Vision (Why? How?) to take this ridiculously dangerous shot at Sam. The highly-decorated military officer just expected this other decorated military man to just stay still and let Vision shoot him with impossible accuracy? So, 1) Karma - Rhodey proves once again, why, outside of proposing nipping the Thanos problem in the bud, he has never been the sharpest bullet in the arsenal; and, 2) How would Rhodey know/memorise the exact schematics of Falcon's wings? Dude couldn't even stop the HammerTech suit he traitorously wore in IM2, from trying to kill his "best friend." (Maybe that's why no parachute? Tony never really got over it? 🤣) I guess nobody wants to talk about Sam racing to try to save Rhodey from his own stupidity (Which Saint Tony, nor Vision, who can change his density and travel at speeds of 700MPH, failed to do). Sam, who easily could've been the one of the ground instead of Rhodey, is a trained military medic, moves forward, hands down, and apologises for the accident which was not his fault, and true to his "brilliance," good guy Tony attempts murder him by shooting a repulsor ray blast -- without warning -- directly to Falcon's chest, that knocks him backwards, off his feet, tumbling through the air, where Sam could have easily been killed or broken his neck. Lastly, bizarrely, the omniscient Vision gracefully floats into the scene, casually walking toward Rhodey and Tony, and is of no help, whatsoever. 😂

Yeah Civil War is widely considered one of the best MCU movies. It just does everything so well. It was a little odd that Tony would bring a teenager into all this out of nowhere but this also has to do with the licensing for Spiderman. That property was owned by Sony for years (previous Spiderman movies were Sony) so everyone thought there was no way for Spidey to be in a Marvel movie even though he's historically a Marvel character. Because the MCU was becoming so successful the two companies worked out a licensing deal to bring Spidey back home to Marvel. And that is where "Homecoming" comes in.

Oh yeah Spider-Man showing up was insane people went mental at the cameo in the Civil War Trailer. For legal reasons with Sony owning his movies rights they simply couldn't introduce Spider-Man into the MCU unless Sony agreed. Andrew Garfield could've been the MCU Spider-Man as when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 VFX's were being worked on Marvel came to Sony to see if they could add The Avengers tower into the Manhattan Skyline connecting The Amazing Spider-Man films to the MCU but they were close to finished so it never happened. In terms of Tom Holland he's a very good Peter Parker and Spider-Man. The big difference being his connection to Tony Stark at a young age and how the Civil War event has pretty much kick started his career as Spider-Man from Tony developing a 15 year old Peter a high tech suit to going up against the Avengers in a civil war conflict. In the comics Peter was more mature in his early 20s in Civil War so I know alot of people were not too big on this aspect and preferred Spider-Man to start out low tech and Independent from The Avengers and then make his way up after a few years Spider-Man. People would've preferred at least a trilogy of films building Spider-Man from 15 to starting college at 18 where he'll become closer to the Avengers as he's older and more experienced and then taking part in the Civil War event when he's maybe early 20s. So we have time to see this Spider-Man being more low tech on his own and then connecting with the Avengers, still love the later Spider-Man films though but yeah this Spider-Mans early years are much more high tech compared to the comic and other Spider-Man movies simply because of how long it took Sony to finally allow a Spider-Man in the MCU. In the comic The New Warriors (Night Thrasher, Namorita, Speedball, and Microbe) battle a group of villains (Cobalt Man, Speedfreek, Coldheart, and Nitro all B and C list Villains and hero's) in Stamford, Connecticut, while filming a reality television show. Nitro explodes, killing more than 600 people (including school children and all of the New Warriors except Speedball). The rest of the superheroes appear in Stamford to search for survivors from X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and other solo hero's, The X-Men are overseen by Sentinels. The Superhero Registration Act comes into play with many hero's agreeing to sign after what happened in Stamford while other hero's decide not to sign as that would mean registering with the federal government as a "human weapon of mass destruction," reveal their true identity to the authorities, and undergo training. Iron man is pro signing while Captain America is anti signing same as the film. So the MCU Civil War is more in relation to the events we've been seeing in the Avengers films along with Winter Solider etc. Fitting the Civil War storyline into the MCU instead of coming up with a storyline closer to the massive Superhero Civil War in the comics it's more of an Avengers Civil War. The MCU instead of the The Superhero Registration Act we have the The Sokovia Accords. The Avengers Will No Longer Be A Private Organization And Are Subject To Government Oversight, No Superhero Is Allowed To Operate Outside Of Their Own Country Without UN Approval, Using Superpowers To Break The Law Or Engage In Vigilante Activity Means Indefinite Detention Without Trial, The Use Of Technology To Grant Superpowers Will Be Regulated, Section 36B: The Creation Of Self-Aware Artificial Intelligence Is Prohibited.

Follow up but yes this is the first introduction to Spider-Man in the MCU so don't worry about missing a Spider-Man film. With how plans were going for Marvel there were actually two scripts for Civil War one without Spider-Man and one with Spider-Man just incase the Marvel and Sony agreement never went through. Antman would've been Team Ironman instead changing his character going forward. Spider-Man films were only added to Disney Plus not that long ago as they're Distributed by Sony Pictures, Sony Pictures Releasing and co produced by Columbia Pictures and of course Marvel Studios. So Sony is heavily involved with these films alongside Marvel Studios. So for a while you couldn't watch anything Spider-Man related under Disney Plus but you're all good now for everything MCU Spider-Man related.

I was Team Steve all the way. This remains my favorite MCU movie - it was a theme park ride start to finish. At the end when Steve lifted his shield to bring it down on Tony, I wasn't sure if he was going for a kill - then I realized he was just trying to create an opening to go for the reactor to shut down the suit. I was stunned that I thought Steve might have been going for a kill, and then the camera focused on Tony's face for a moment - he looked like he was thinking the same thing. It was a cool moment.

Oh my goodness when your face lit up the moment you realized Holland was Spiderman, oh my goodness, and your general enjoyment of his fight, I think i had a serotonin overdose. I don't know if you've seen Star Wars to get the reference that Spiderman said about tying up Antman's legs. I LOVE those whistle sounds you added when they were jumping from up on high AHAHAHAHAH lmao, I cant! There are over 1000 comments here (congratulations!) so it's possible someone said this already; Vision has the ability to change his density; reducing it to the point of phasing through things, and increasing it to the point of being one of the densest...'things'? ever, along with flying shooting beams and all that - that's what Wanda did, she took control of his density, increased it to the point where he was so heavy he cracked through the ground and fell through the earth. Btw, look, im no big shot KZfaqr and editor, but during the fight, when Spiderman said "Tony said to go for your legs" or something like that, you said "That's what I said in the last Captain American movie!" I think it would've been cool had you put that clip in right there, of you actually saying that, I was expecting it to cut away for a sec to you saying that. Just an idea! Anyway, thanks for another fantastic reaction, I reallllllly enjoy these and look forward to them and definitely looking forward to the next one!

At the time this came out, I was Team Iron Man. But after watching the rest of the movies in the Infinity Saga and FATWS, I became more empathetic toward Bucky. I wouldn’t exactly say I would switch sides now, but I probably would be impartial to both sides now. Also, after watching this.. while it does seem like an Avengers movie, it technically is a Captain America movie. It feels like they try to make you feel more sympathetic toward Cap’s side.
@vanyadolly

Well between Cap and Tony, one of them has a track record of making bad decisions and the other of making good ones. In this particular aspect it isn't an equally balanced "fight" because Cap's superpower is basically good judgement. It's the same in the comics.

Great react. Team Cap all the way for me. I always found it funny they were showing the destruction from Avengers (where the gov was planning to nuke NYC anyways) and Cap 2 (where it was a gov agency infiltrated by Hydra that was planning on mass murdering millions) as reasons to let another gov org take control of the Avengers. Plus Tony and Black Panther on the side of the Accords and immediately breaking them with Tony recruiting an unsanctioned Spider-Man and BP (understandably) seeking revenge for his father.

I mean... the people who made the movie knew what they were doing. They didn't call it "Avengers: Civil War" they called it "Captain America: Civil War". There's clearly a right side and a wrong side, and the movie tells us that again and again. Tony is the villain, and Ross is clearly in the wrong; the movie is showing him being wrong because he IS wrong.
@misty3195
@misty3195 9 ай бұрын
@SchulzEricT actually, if you ever have the time to watch the interviews from the writers and directors, that isn't what they were doing. Yes the Ross's Brothers favorites Steve and this movie is were they took over and changes some of the storylines that had been set up earlier in the franchise. But they tried to make in where neither side were wrong nor right and pulled in a lot of real world laws andstuff like that. They did a couple of screen tests to make sure the audience were split 50/50. It is a Captain America movie because it is his fall from grace and where he had to finally make a selfish choice over his duty and hold to it. He walked away from his duty to the people and embraced his own wants and needs. He decided he would do it his way. Throughout the whole movie he's world was being thrown apart. Peggy's death, Bucky being hunted and the team falling apart. But the most crucial part is that he himself is compromised by it all and making poor choices left and right. This is a call back to his first movie. A good man vs a good soldier. On the other hand were Steve does get it all in the end, Stark had to face just as much loss as Steve gains throughout the movie. His part shows what true accountability is. He lost Pepper and his place on the team after Age of Ultron. He lost the team in the end and will have to stand alone holding the world up. He essentially became the last one standing against the bad.
@vanyadolly
@vanyadolly Ай бұрын
Yep. The only argument they really had was Sokovia/Ultron, which is why it worked so well on Tony who was dealing with the guilt of being directly responsible for that.

Fully on Tony's side. All Steve needed to do was talk to tony and be honest. Instead he chose not to talk to him, keep the reason for his Parents death a secret, keep the existence of the other soldiers secret, and he ended up siding with tonys parents' killer, whether bucky intended to do it or not. Tony on the other hand saw the calamity in their wake and wanted to reduce the number of civilian deaths by allowing the UN some oversight, something Cap was also completely against. Let's also not forget that Steve was starting a fight over Wanda being confined to the Compund instead of in Prison, something that escapes my mind completely. Not to mention that Tony ended up offering his help to Steve and was completely blindsided by Steve's lies. There is no way in hell that this entire thing could not have been avoided by Steve and Tony sitting down and talking without Steve behaving like a complete asshat.

What I find interesting is that no one points out that every incident that Ross shows of the Avengers large scale destruction is a direct result of either the government's actions (SHIELD in both the first Avengers movie and in Winter Soldier) or Tony's (Ultron). The Avengers were just the response to situations that others created and then pushed the blame over to the Avengers when they had to clean up someone else's mess. Makes it easier for me to side with Steve far more than anyone else.
