Howard Stark developed the Arc reactor based off the energy of the tesseract but the technology was never complete because Tony had to create that synthetic tesseract element that Powers Stark's new arc reactors. The gamma program Dr Banner used on himself was attempt at the super soldier serum. Steve has increase strength with enhance speed durability and a healing ability. Steve not bulletproof like the hulk or able to heal instantly like the Hulk either.

19:05, Cap isn't bulletproof hence the shield he carries isn't just for symbolic purposes. That said his body's tissues are denser than normal humans so he is much more durable and tougher to injure. But at the end of the day a gun or sharp cutting edge will harm him.

Well, honestly, there is a clear difference between emotional and sexual connection. She was clearly REALLY into him emotionally, even before he became Captain America. But you can really see the difference in sexual attraction after he went through the transformation. In my opinion (and experience) dudes mostly pick up on the sexual attraction part (if they pick on anything at all. Most dudes I know are as dense as Osmium) Edit: Typo

Chris Evans is a very handsome guy, but when he's not playing Captain America, he doesn't work out enough to maintain the awesome physique. Because of this, when the movie first became popular, he met a lot of people who, seeing that he was not as muscular as he was in the movie, said "No, I've seen Captain America. You're not him." He joked during an interview "I have accepted the fact that I am a physical disappointment to my fans."

The logo on Johan Schmidt's car is the Hydra logo. In Greek mythology a hydra was a giant multi-headed serpent that if you cut off one if its heads two more would instantly replace it. Cap's shield isn't a boomerang although it is aerodynamic. He just has been practicing ricocheting it at various angles so he can retrieve it easily. You don't want to throw away your defense. It is an interesting choice to use the shield as a thrown weapon as well as a shield. 😅

They threw a lot of Easter eggs into this movie for the comic book nerds. Example, at the World's Fair, they showed an Android created by Phineas Horton. This later became the Original Human Torch. He also developed awareness and human emotions. The soldiers fighting with cap were actually The Howling Commandos led by Nick Fury. They modified his story of when he was frozen since in the comics, he jumped on the drone to save Bucky, but it exploded and dropped him in the ice. Plus, there is no Baron Zemo as they had to rush the time-line. The Captain America in this film was derived from The Ultimates universe in the comics.

14:15, Sure pre-serum Steve was short, skinny and had a lot of health issues. But if he had been in better general health he would have been allowed to join. During World War II, it was all hands on deck. So any able bodied man who could pass the physical was enlisted in the war effort. One of the most decorated soldiers in US history was a little guy from Kingston, Texas named Audie Murphy. He was only 5 foot 5 but he had the heart of a lion. After the war when Lt. Murphy's life story was being made into a movie he asked that they not include all of his combat record. When asked why he didn't want everything included he said "Nobody will believe a little guy like me did all of that."

When I first saw the films, I agreed with your ranking. And "Iron Man" is still excellent. But something about the Captain America movies, especially the first two ... like wine, they get better with time. Or at least that's my experience. You have a lot of good movies in your future, right up to "Endgame." Also, FWIW, there's as many Marvel movies outside of the MCU as in it. First there's "Blade," and then "X-Men," and then the Tobey Maguire "Spider-Man."

If anything more like a toy or prop (gotta get those bonds amirite?). Obviously after seeing this film it's clear it's not the same shield as of course Cap's shield is in the ice with him, so couldn't be in Tony's garage.

In the comics, the Red Skull was originally just a guy in a mask with no super soldier serum and no permanently skull-like face. He eventually got the benefits of the serum second hand by having Dr. Zola transfer his mind into a clone of Captain America's body in 1984. He ended up getting the permanent skull face when he got a dose of his own Red Skull toxin which didn't kill him thanks to the effects of the super soldier serum, but it left his face disfigured. The idea of having the Skull be the first person to use the serum with a skull face as a side effect was in the terrible 1990 live action Captain America movie starring live Matt Salinger ( the movie called the serum a "potion" and had the Skull as a Italian F@$ci$t instead of a German N@zi). The Skull being the first super soldier got canonized in the comics in the excellent 1991 graphic novel limited series "The Adventures of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty." The title was meant to be reminiscent of the old action/adventure serials of the 1940s, so don't let the fact that it sounds corny fool you. The actual story and art are great.

Peggy IS into him before the transformation. Thats the point. The film is showing you that she is attracted to his character. Saying that "once she's sees his as Cap she'll be into him" is actually against who Peggy is as a character, what the film is saying *and* showing as its NOT about the superficial, its about the spirit of a human. The pic of "before" Steve even proves this further. No Spoilers but this is driven home even further down the line.

Good job on spotting Mr. Filch from Harry Potter; also on guessing how they created "Skinny Steve". The obvious question is since Captain America weighs about twice as much as Steve did, where did the mass come from ? Less obvious is how do his pants still fit ? (The same questions also apply to the Hulk.) Agent Carter got her own series, set after the war. It ran for two seasons and you might enjoy checking it out. Captain America's power varies depending on the source. He's usually described as "Peak Human" rather than "Superhuman". What that seems to mean is that he's as healthy, strong, fast, agile, and durable as a human could theoretically be - which no actual human ever is. So he can lift more, run faster, jump farther, and hit harder than a normal human would but he's not in the same league as Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, or Spiderman. He's not bulletproof but he heals fast, and doesn't get tired easily - he really can "do this all day". What really sets him apart is his character - even before the process we see him try to enlist, stand up to a bully and refuse to quit, figure out how to get the flag, and throw himself on a grenade. Unlike Tony Stark or Thor, he didn't have to learn to be a hero; he already was one, the serum just "amplified" what was already there.

Captain America was originally a comic book character created during World War II. On the cover of Captain America No. 1 he is literally punching Adolf Hitler in the jaw (they cleverly worked that cover into the movie). After World War II, the character began to lose popularity and they eventually stopped publication of Captain America comics. Marvel Comics' super-heroes were created in the early 1960's and, as they added new characters, they decided to bring back Captain America. They came up with the idea that at the end of World War II Captain America fell into the ocean and was frozen in ice and was floating around for years when he was discovered by The Avengers. I think the movie does a pretty good job incorporating all of that into a coherent story.

Whatever the PEAK human level is , He's atleast 4-5 times that. In the Comics , he can heal Gunshots and knife wounds in HOURS and MINUTES respectively. He's not in Wolverine level of Healing factor but He can heal Really quickly. They didn't show it as much in the movies and they did a great job showing his Strength and Combat Abilities but He's still stronger than they showed here. No need for us to point any out as you both seem to have very good call back ability that I think you will see these in the future. Director Joe Johnston worked on Raiders of the Lost Ark. There are three references to that movie. Red Skull says, "The Fuhrer digs for trinkets in the desert." The guy who goes through the propeller. The similarity of what happens to Red Skull to some one in Raiders. The comic book they showed in the movie was reprinted from the original Captain America comic book. I could have sworn (maybe someone commenting has seen the old comics) that I read that the round shield was an alloy produced by an accident in the lab, and that's why they could not ever reproduce it with 1940s technology to equip other soldiers. Also it's weird that it had layers instead of being one piece when Tony Stark used it to prop up his particle accelerator to make the new non-lethal element for his chest (spoilers).

At 31:37, Agent Carter gives Steve a look that, I believe, communicates an intent on her part to eventually climb Steve, and bear him children. Possibly. A few minutes later, at 34:08, the Captain is looking at a table of various shield prototypes. I believe each one of those shields relates back to the shields that writers tried to give Cap in the comics, in the 70's and 80's. Just like in the movie, none of them worked out. Fans hated them. At 35:43 Cap throws explosives into a monstrously-large tank; I wonder if that's an Easter Egg nod to the various Nazi Sleepers that cap fought in the 60's and 70's in his comics. The scream at 38:55 is widely known as the "Wilhelm", after Private Wilhelm, one of the first characters to "make" the scream. (It's first use was in the movie "Distant Drums" in 1951.) It's a widely-used 'sound effect' and frequently included as something of an homage, a carrying-on of tradition in the Sound Design industry. (There's a 3+ minute video on YT of it's many. many uses in film and TV.) And finally, I believe there are several shots that are re-creations of Captain America comic book covers from years gone by. I know the scene of Cap punching Adolph in the jaw during the musical early on was the cover art for the first Captain America comic book.

Just an FYI guys - it's totally okay to rank them :D That's what we did when these movies came out with months or even years between them. All I can say - without spoiling is that your rankings will change :D Because everyone's did - in different ways :D

[Now is a good time for me to make sure something is understood by you. I tend to watch a reaction, pause in mid moment, type up my response to a moment, then continue. If I don't do this, poignant points can be lost before the reaction ends. I strive to never reference something that does not happen in the current, or prior, installments. Some of my comment I will delete by the end, before posting. Some of my comment will seem a little awkward if you addressed it later, bur in such cases I felt it needed to stay as it was, because I couldn't find a better way to deliver the insight other than leaving what I already typed. Nothing is intended as criticism.] In Iron Man 2, that was not Captain America's shield. It was a mock up or prototype attempt at recreating the shield. It you go back to that scene, it's incomplete. The shield was complete when he used it in the 1940s, and was buried in the ice (as we see at the start of this movie) with Captain America. The recovery of Captain America from the ice takes place _after_ Iron Man 2. BTW - I've seen several reactors who started with this movie on the premise it is titled "The First Avenger" and made the error of coming into the movies out of sequence. At the time Guardians of the Galaxy came out, it didn't "click" to me that it was part of the MCU, so I didn't watch it until a bit later. At least your error was an innocent one. 45:10-45:12 "Bifrost" More phonetically Bi-Frost. It is pronounced "by" "frost" not "bif" "rost" Just to avoid confusion going forward. 45:53-46:11 "One last look at Peggy? He's gotta survive, this guy" Please refer back to the opening of the movie, the discovery of Captain America, buried in ice, in a large craft of some kind. I'm not quite sure where you got the cell regeneration to the extreme idea from. Essentially, Captain America has the physical capabilities of the pinnacle of human athletics, and the strongest immune system achievable by mankind. He's not immortal, he's not bulletproof. He will heal a wound in the "bare minimum" a human could heal from that wound. He is as strong, pound for pound as any human could be, he's as fast as any human could achieve. Basically he's the pinnacle of health and physical capability of humanity. If you cut his hand off, it won't grow back. But if you break his arm (which is no easy task, since he has perfected bone density), he will heal the broken bone as fast as is humanly possible. He's the physical perfection of human capability. Your doctor says, 4-8 weeks before taking your arm out of the cast, his cast is likely ready to be removed in 2-4 weeks. When Captain America is awakened in the "modern world" one would think that when he went down in the plane would be documented. Picking a radio broadcast from say, 3 months after his crash would have been easy enough to come up with. Since Steve was at that game, it was before he became Captain America. They could even have picked any radio broadcast from the next 2 years. It wouldn't have triggered him to "remember" this is from my past. He would have bought an explanation "you've been in a coma" if the broadcast was from say 1948.

Would you please create a playlist for your watching of the Marvel Phase 1, 2 and 3? Order the playlist in movie release date. I’m glad you’re reacting to them in order, Think of these movies as a novel where you really don’t want to read chapter 3 before chapter 1.

while not my favorite MCU film, Cap is definitely my favorite superhero. The diff MCU films all have there own style; Captain America films all have an America/espionage theme to them where Antman is more heist, Ironman more tech, Thor space, etc. While always a little humorous, the Cap films also have seriousness to them that some people find more (or less) appealing. You'll love Avengers.

34:20, I hate this scene because it makes Peggy look mentally unstable. Sure we could say Peggy knew that the bullets wouldn't penetrate the shield. But no sane person just shoots at other people because they are a little jealous. Peggy is an intelligent articulate grown woman, this should have been a scene in which she and Steve actually talked about what they wanted. Remember, neither of them have actually said to the other that they want to be a couple...you know like real people. So for her to act like Steve did something wrong is freaking entitled and nuts. Also it fosters the idea that guns are toys which they are not. Peggy is a British agent fighting in a war, she wouldn't be venting like this while risking the life of a valued soldier.

I'm so confused by this reaction... They didn't seem to know anything at all about captain America despite the huge amount of marvel folks out there and so the references in popular culture yet one glimpse of Samuel L and they're like "hey it's nick fury"... Its inconceivable that they know nothing about capt!

What you might miss in future MCU movies is the picture of Steve Rogers that Peggy Carter has on her desk for decades is the Steve she first met and not the super soldier .
