I've been playing this game for 2 years and I can say they get hungrier for money each month. Pretty much every single event has bugs (just search for the word "compensation" on their blog), they take a lot of time to fix something (if they fix it) but the paid content never has bugs on their side - but on the players side, yes They aren't a company to be trusted with your money, really .

Back when the original Legendaries (like Ironman, Shuri, Magneto etc.) it was capped at having the unlock teams at 5* to begin with, so this is nothing new and shouldn't be much cause of concern. If something should be concerning, is that Scopely wants to put this Cpt. Britain guy into the same bucket as the two Zombies in a bid to create artifical FOMO. That is what should be concerning. If that part was not there, then it wouldn't matter much as F2P and low spenders would get the unlock for the 2nd or 3rd showing as with previous Dark promo legenaries like GGC, Nova etc.

Don't. Stay f2p, and just accept that not everything is for you. The happiest ppl I know in the Gamr are f2p. Once you start spending, the fomo gnats at you. Scopley knows what they're doing, and they're very good at it. Once the wallet opens, it's hard to shut it while still playing the game

You have a very select type of memory if indeed you've been playing since beta and it hasn't been a problem for you till now. F2P was not getting the original legendaries like Fury or Magneto on the first run back then either because of the paid-for requirement of having 5* characters. So this is not new behaviour from Scopely. What is the new behaviour though, is the aspect of vaulting a legendary. THAT part is what the outrage should be about, because that is what is going to hurt the F2P and lower level spenders short term.

In response to unlocking the early Legendaries, it took me a month or so to get Magneto and Fury maybe, and a lot longer for Omega Red, back then. But there was no pay requirement, and no vaulting. Which is exactly what I was saying I was mad about. There has never been any actual barrier to being F2P. Never. Under either company.

I guess we can't mention that the the game was owned by another company during that time, though, because whenever I mention the name of that company the reply gets deleted. Interesting. Requiring a star rank for characters does not Force anyone to buy anything, it only incentivizes purchases. I maintain that there has never been a paywall.

According to the hysterics, the game has been on the verge of dying for the last five and a half years, it never seems to happen though.

You will have to pay to be able to get the toons high enough to do the team 2.1. (Unless you have about 30,000 cores to throw at Pym, and maybe slightly fewer for Shuri).
