The Captain Logan camp is situated on the banks of Lake Wivenhoe, approximately 90km (1.5 hours) out of Brisbane. The camping complex is signposted off the Brisbane Valley Highway, turning onto Hays Road (Wivenhoe Hill). From here the road runs a short distance until you hit the first left, Logan Inlet Road off which you will find the campground well sign posted.
There is an office at the entrance to the camp that houses a ranger who will check bookings and sell you ice, firewood and fishing permits (from Friday to Sunday). There is a power point behind the office that can be used to charge boat batteries and also power outlets in the amenities block that can be used to charge mobile phones and laptops (although they will not operate hairdryers etc).
There are 57 camp sites in total, all of which are unpowered and six of which are appropriate for caravans and camper trailers (see the link below for more specific details). The sites are numbered and allocated upon booking, and each have a designated parking space.
The campsites arch around the banks of the lake in a gentle semi --circle and is designed so that each campsite gets a good view and easy access to the water. Camp sites typically face out over the water, making for tranquil and beautiful views at dawn and sunset. The area is teaming with birdlife and at dusk, the trees come alive with the friendly chatter of rose-breasted Galah's. There is also a healthy population of kangaroos around the campground that can be seen drinking at the water's edge or relaxing in the shade of a tree or picnic tables!
This is comfort camping at its best, boasting flushing toilets, hot showers, rubbish disposal, electric BBQs and even its very own cricket pitch! There was a marked lack of creepy crawlies in general, and the toilet blocks were clean and bug-free. The grounds are neat and well maintained with the open grassy areas making it well-suited to families.
This is definitely the place to come in the warmers months if boating, paddling, fishing and swimming are musts on your camping list. The water was invitingly cool and the gentle earth banks made accessing the water for boating and swimming very easy.
This is a popular and well-known spot though! So if the idea of sharing close quarters with other campers doesn't light your fire, then you may want to make your trip mid-week and away from the holidays! The close quarters and lack of scrub between the open campsites means that you don't have a lot of privacy from your neighbours and noise can be an issue from larger groups. Keep in mind that you're also likely to need to book well in advance around holidays and peak periods.
Overall, Captain Logan Camp was fantastic, and If you like your camping with a side of creature comforts, then this the perfect spot to spend a few nights relaxing by the water's edge and watching the local wildlife!

I really like how you point out the negative things, because it matters. Privacy and noise are issues for us. Love your vids, keep up the great work.

This is a hidden gem nearest to Brisbane and Ipswich that not many locals know about. It is a very serene and peaceful place to sit back and relax and just enjoy nature. Ive been going to this place since my children were young til today (for the last 10 years now) . Not many people know that you are allowed to bring your powered boat on the water here as well. There are bountiful facilties available . A must see place for all in Brisbane. You dont have to drive hundred and thousand of kms to get to a place that will connect you with nature, and make your day relaxing and complete.
