Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker fell victim to, well, being on the Wii U. But it got a second chance by being released on the Nintendo Switch and 3DS! Explore these garden box puzzle levels as Toad who wanders in search of treasure. Though completing it means playing each level around 3 times, and after solving the puzzle the first time, oof it can get pretty repetitive. Oh and there's about 76 levels in the game.

I miss "finipede it". It's an important ranking. It means you should do the extras but don't bother doing every last thing necessary for 100%.

That's basically what I'm doing for most games. I don't give a fuck about acchievements. If they are implemented WELL, they might be fun, but most of them are just pointless/absoluteley tedious. Therefore I bring many games to 100% ingame, but skip most of the acchievements. But that also translates to many other games without them. Take Breath of the wild. Getting all those seeds? It's pointles and tedious - but the goal was to implement so many, so all players could discover many just by playing and have fun. It wasn't made with completion in mind - wich is allright. Or take many RPGs. I don't play them a lot, but when I do, I usually sink quite a lot of time in them. And discover and play huge amounts. But getting all of the tidy side missions or just find every single mission and play it - nope. a "finipede it" it in my book. Do way more, then what is required to complete the main campaign, but don't bother getting 100%. Skyrim for example here, on my last playtrough I've spent around 100 hours and only touched the campaign so much, that I unlocked shouts. The Campaign itself can be finished in

I completed this game with the joy-cons, and I loved all the extra challenges for every level. It gave me a reason to go back and re-experience each level, rather than just beating it once and forgetting about it. When I play a game, I like to thoroughly enjoy it, not just get through it.

*ELFKanginFan* Toad sucks, but it's not really his fault. Nintendo basically made that horrendous high-pitched shrieking voice canon (it originated in the Super Mario cartoon shows that DIC made - no joke, that has been the style of voice for Toad that Nintendo has stuck with ever since then). But I will admit, that I really want to play this game, I can always just mute the TV and be listening to The Great Southern Trendkill as I play!

the whole beat the level four times thing was probably with the intention you don't get every collectable the first time playing the level so that you have to go back for a collectable anyway or just doing a second playthrough of the game because you still are thinking about the next game to buy.

That’s a very good point actually. Since I try to get everything on the first play through of a level, I never thought of that maybe being the reason that beating the game with all 4 characters was a thing. Because until you made that point I never understood the point in having pretty much beat the game 4 damn times. But I was looking at it regarding 100%ing the game with all 4 characters & not just playing the levels with the other 3 characters. Thanks for pointing that out & letting me see that from another point of view. Also, I’m not quite sure what genre of games you are into, but me, I am only good at 2D & 3D platformers & racing games (which I am very picky on). If you have any good suggestions for any platformers or racing games that you enjoy or you know someone that enjoys them, & you wouldn’t mind, just drop them as a reply to this comment. I have a lot of the platformers that I know I like, because I’m picky when it comes to platformers, but if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Sorry for the long ass rant, I just never looked at it from that point of view before.

I was at least okay with Pokkén Tournament DX at first, since it was like a GOTY edition with all the DLC... but then they gave it more DLC... wasn't a huge fan of having to buy more DLC after buying the switch port so that I wouldn't have to buy more DLC.

considering the port has sold over a million copies on the Switch, it isnt exactly dead. It just Street Fighter big, but it has a playerbase.

I think they should do like in Pokemon Gold and Silver where you have a completely new sequel and as an added bonus, you get the original game once you complete it.

RetroGamer64 i forgot it came out a year aftee the wii u did nintendo have cycles of 4 years where all other consoles have 6 we have 2 more years of xbox one and playstation 4 (or 5 i lost track) and 3 more for switch give or take a few months this is why pc gaming has its benefits as ive gotten older its become more blaintent still love consoles

I’m not quite sure what genre of games you are into, but me, I am only good at 2D & 3D platformers & racing games (which I am very picky on). If you have any good suggestions for any platformers or racing games that you enjoy or you know someone that enjoys them, & you wouldn’t mind, just drop them as a reply to this comment. I have a lot of the platformers that I know I like, because I’m picky when it comes to platformers & racing games as well, but if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Also, my favorite kind of platformers are the collectathon platformers, such as, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Mario 3D World, Spyro, Yoshi’s Crafted World, Yooka Laylee & The Impossible Lair, A Hat In Time, Mario 3D World obviously, & Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. I just bought Pumpkin Jack & Taxi Chaos but after that I have no more games that I can play & no one that I play games with really enjoys platformers besides clearly the Mario ones & that’s all they enjoy. So any help that I could get would be great. I also already have Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Shantae, Rayman Legends Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, Adventure Pals, Crash (I also already have Crash 4 preordered for the switch, & Castlevania. & BTW, I thought 3D World was never going to come to the switch. Now we just need Galaxy 2 & 3D Land. I am really curious on what they are going to do with 2D & 3D Mario when they run out of Wii U games to port, of just games to port in general. I am so excited to see where they take it & what they do with it. Now all we need is a new Mario Kart game & a new Yoshi game. I liked Crafted World, but I enjoyed Wooly World better. I still play my 3DS to play Wooly World.

Nice review! I like how you weren't afraid to make critiques of the game like how they may seem to be cramming a lot of extra fluff into the game. And I like how you talk about the different controllers playing the game-even giving a call back to the Wii U gamepad!

Can’t wait for Captain Toad 2 where Toad and Toadette both get kidnapped 10 times over. Seriously though, why not just make the story a treasure hunt for an ancient treasure that happens to be guarded by a giant bird or something? The story doesn’t have to be deep just something that makes sense

I have to confess, I'll always have a soft spot for Captain Toad...not the game, literally The Completionist episode on it. The original Captain Toad video was the first episode I ever saw, and Jirard's channel lead to me discovering so many other KZfaqrs and series that I love and adore: Jesse Cox, The Dex, Super Couch Fighters, Scary Game Squad, Super Beard Bros, and more. Literally all of it started for me from the original Captain Toad video, so seeing this one is just the right type of nostalgia for me. Thank you, Jirard. For everything.

Incorrect, obviously the only good pokemon to come from gen 5 is Zoroark, Victini is just a shape with blue eyes, and Victini has one of the most unoriginal designs I have ever seen. Facts.

3D World was completely soulless and stale. It was the epitomy of Nintendo's "playing it safe" philosophy they had at the time. I'm glad Nintendo wants to forget it exists and show more love to an amazing game like Odyssey.

I respect people that say 3D World isn’t very good, but I love it! Sure, the overall gameplay is the same as in other Mario games, but it’s the brilliant level design that makes this game a masterpiece to me

Pure joy encapsulated in a game. It's cute, charming, fun, and inventive. Each stage is like its own little play set, lego set, or diorama. I never did beat the Mummy-Me Forever maze in the Wii U version, but I did everything else. "Finish It" is a fair rating for a game that's still an easy recommendation in general.

Toad may have had to wait until 2014 for his own game, but what really matters is that Waluigi finally got his time to shine in 2018, with the new hit classic "Waluigi's Taco Stand." Camelot Software Planning have successfully created the newest masterpiece within gaming as a whole. Congratulations.

It was a good game and if you know Japanese culture the gameplay of using her emotions actually follows how they revere the emotions of the goddess amaterasu, and hints that she could actually be the most powerful person in the mushroom kingdom.

@@dorf7219 cuz she wants to be lol. While it's all speculation or makes sense that if you're the all powerful ruler worshipped by an entire kingdom, you'd start to get bored. So she allows herself to get kidnapped to get something exciting to happen. In bowser's inside story when bowser try to do something peach doesn't approve of, she flings him out of her castle with no effort whatsoever.

@@silverfang387 there is some kind of music box in the level before the boss. I think you get the key for it from that guy who owns the shop beside the submarine. The boss is frustrating at times, but is easy if you know how to beat it.

I gotta say I totally disagree about the pro controller stuff...I always found lookin down and using the touchscreen in the Wii U version pretty cumbersome, whereas having the pointer option with a regular controller on Switch was sooo much easier and more straightforward to me, especially because it's easier to use the shoulder button and pointer to freeze enemies in place while still moving than using the touch screen and still trying to move! Also, I feel that the motion controlled pointer works equally as well on Pro controller and Joy-Con...

Since I'm currently the only person on KZfaq that specifically reviewed the 3DS version, I can say that, from everything I've played, and from everything I've heard about the Wii U and Switch versions, the 3DS route is the definitive answer. The touch controls work wonderfully, the game actually supports stereoscopic 3D (a rarity in 2018) and it has all of the content of the Switch version; the only things that had to be removed were the Double Cherries that granted more than two Toads on-screen at once, and reducing enemies. It also has a lower frame rate (but it's a Captain Toad game, so who's complaining?) and slightly inferior graphics, but when you actually hold the 3DS in your hands, it looks absolutely glorious, and is probably the best-looking 3DS game to date.

I remember trying to fully complete Captain Toad (except for the Pixel Toad challenges since I didn't spend a lot of time on it - maybe one day. Plus it was before the amiibo update came out) like it was yesterday. When I got to Mummy-Me Maze Forever though... oh God. That level just dragged on and on and on, and you're required to get a whopping 5,000 coins in order to finish it. And all the coins I've acquired added up too slow! Lose a life and you're back to square one, as well. That was where I deemed the game complete. It's still a fantastic game though, and I would love, love, love to see a sequel one day. I just wasn't a fan of that one level I talked about.

Cool video as always Jirard. I didn't have any issues with the pro controller though, it wasn't always as accurate... but I was able to complete te game 100% while mostly using the pro controller.

Seeing this on rails shooter segments makes me realise once again how much Nintendo missed out not bringing Pokémon snap out on the Wii U. I mean I’m happy we got a new Pokémon snap but like the wii u was made for the game god damn it…

Mine as well. This, Yoshi’s Wooly World, Shantae & Shovel Knight. I really wish that they would port over Wooly World or just make a sequel to it or something, as I found that Wooly World was a lot better than Crafted World in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, Crafted World is an amazing game, I just enjoyed Wooly World 100% more. We also need a new damn Mario Kart game. For the Wii U to have been such an awful selling console, it had some amazing quality games come out on it.

I feel like the controls are actually best on the New 3DS. The nub works great and touch screen controls are done perfectly. I play this on long flights. Really easy to pick up and put down anytime.
