I like how that side character who's mostly been comic relief throughout the movies, is the one to correct Barbose and have that intimate moment with Calypso. you can tell through the movies he has a soft heart and it really shows here.

I remembered this scene differently, but even after 14 years, this scene is still so good; Barbossa's hilarious lack of romantic tact, Ragetti's unexpected suaveness, Tia Dalma's transformation into Calypso and heartbreak Will breaks it to her that her lover Davy Jones was her traitor, the CGI of Calypso turning into crabs... Amazing

The moral of the story here is if you let your one eyed man talk dirty to a strange and beautiful women, you'll likely end up with a huge case of crabs.

I’ve never understood why Calypso was surprised that Jones had betrayed her. She betrayed him first by trapping him as the captain of the Flying Dutchman and then ditching him.

The hurt in her eyes when learning Jones betrayed her it seems the goddess did still love him and I do believe after his death she forgave him and accepted him back

I've been scouring the comments to see if anyone shares my opinion on this scene but I haven't seen it so I'll post it here. I think Barbosa knew exactly how to say the incantation correctly but didn't do it on purpose. He's been shown to be a very smart character and had already mentioned how to do it correctly, so there's no reason for him to "accidentally" do it wrong. Instead I think that both binding and releasing a god of the sea has to carry with it some burden which Barbossa knew about and didn't want to incur on himself. Barbossa's look at 0:54 after Ragetti says "you didn't say it right" always seemed to me as saying "alright then, you go on and enlighten us as to how it's done", trying to manipulate Ragetti into doing it himself. Barbossa is normally really aggressive but this time he just stands back, lets his subordinate call him out on doing something wrong and then lets him take the glory? Seems sketchy to me... More like it was on purpose.

I feel sorry for Barbossa's lover. 😂

Amazing scene aside, I love the idea that this is how Barbosa genuinely thinks lovers talk. The way he did it is really funny to me for some reason.

I love how Will's voice changes from when he says "Tia Dalma..." to when he says her true name, "...Calypso" and catches her full attention. . For as much as I loved these movies when I first saw them, I still feel like I underrated them. So many subtle facial expressions, vocal tones, jokes, hints in the dialogue etc. that I missed the first time(s) I saw them. But, at least it makes rewatching them a real treasure (no pun intended)! : D

I think for character design of calypso, they were trying to go for a scary creepy ugly sea witch looking goddess, but I actually find her very adorable and beautiful.
