i think bc to her "betrayal" means going against ones nature, like how davy went from good to "cruel" which is something he never was. For davy to secretly trap a goddess in a mortal form is a cruel act that went against who he was at the time. Thats just my take tho

In summary, it’s basically a love story between a human mortal and an unpredictable deity. Calypso is the sea and Jones didn’t realise that she is always with him.
@christophergepullano902910 ай бұрын
Wrong. Calypso did not curse Davy Jones. He basically accepted the duty for every 10 years and they would reunite. But Calypso cannot be with him because of her nature as the sea. Jones was enraged by this and he plotted alongside the Brethren Court to imprison her in a mortal body. Then Jones tore his heart out so that he could not feel sorrow or guilt for what happened, but because of this, he became the monster he is now.

Recall later on a storm forms and makes a whirlpool that completely negates all advantages that the dutchman has against the pearl in 1v1 combat. They're locked in. Calypso IS helping, but not by handling the situation for them. She is evening the odds and nothing more. I've been scouring the comments to see if anyone shares my opinion on this scene but I haven't seen it so I'll post it here. I think Barbosa knew exactly how to say the incantation correctly but didn't do it on purpose. He's been shown to be a very smart character and had already mentioned how to do it correctly, so there's no reason for him to "accidentally" do it wrong. Instead I think that both binding and releasing a god of the sea has to carry with it some burden which Barbossa knew about and didn't want to incur on himself. Barbossa's look at 0:54 after Ragetti says "you didn't say it right" always seemed to me as saying "alright then, you go on and enlighten us as to how it's done", trying to manipulate Ragetti into doing it himself. Barbossa is normally really aggressive but this time he just stands back, lets his subordinate call him out on doing something wrong and then lets him take the glory? Seems sketchy to me... More like it was on purpose.

@@Not-Ap Depending on the mythology. I think I recall something along the lines of nymphs being entities of a divine nature, but I don't know if that is sufficient to count them as demigods, gods, or anything else along those lines. I thought it was more like 'of divine origin', which is not quite the same as being divine, per se.

Why did Will ask "who betrayed you?" And then she responded with "name him!?"
@jasonwayne77722 жыл бұрын
I would say she didn't know who betrayed her and caused her imprisonment in human body. So that is why she asked him to name the betrayer. And why Will brought it up at that very moment? Davy Jones was at that time their imminent threat and this would help actually persuade her to "aid" them in order to get some revenge. She is still the goddess of the sea and sea is treaturous in nature. Even despite Barbossa keeping his vow, there was no guarantee she would keep her end of their bargain. Sea is moody and this revelation swung the mood against Davy Jones. That's my humble opinion at least.
