Capture One has totally changed my work flow. I now shoot primarily RAW on my Fujifilm, and have found that the film simulations on Capture One almost exactly match the in camera Fuji versions so I am able to just go through and easily select one of the simulations on my raw photos. I find that the Lightroom simulations aren't quite there and preferred to shoot JPEG + RAW when I was using Lightroom. Just shooting RAW now and knowing I'll get that Fuji look through Capture One and having that flexibility is such a quality of life improvement!

Tried the trial. Not a bad piece of software but bought DXO Photolab 6 instead. Both are fast but DXO seems to have better feature sets.

I’ve used capture one for 4 years but there pricing is way to high considering these features should have already been in the software. I came from lightroom because they we’re putting the prices up to much but I’m now going to back to Lightroom 😅

I used your discount to purchase a one year subscription to Capture One only 3 days ago. Your discount was good for only the first 100 people who signed up. Today Capture One is offering that same subscription for quite a bit less. My timing sucks and the 100 people who took "advantage" of your discount must feel slightly screwed.

Sounds and looks great especially for us fuji users but at £24.00 per month {$27.00} is a little to expensive compared to Lightroom and p[hotoshop at £9.98 per month if it were a lot cheaper I would most defiantly switch.

Definitely assign keystrokes to your colour tagging. * green + yellow - orange / none etc. Search be untagged images to select all and delete. Big culling space saver.

Capture One 22 - 23 upgrade price £200, they charge a massive upgrade price every year they should just call it subscription not perpetual licence. I'm going to check out Affinity Photo 2 but doubt it's as good for RAW the sub for capture one per year is less than the upgrade price.

Thank you for the informative video. The changes in version 23 are minimal for me so I did not decide to upgrade but when the scarce information (rather a threat or a would be ultimatum) on the new distribution policy was released I decided to upgrade for stability reasons. By the way variants take of coarse disk space for thumb nails, previews and all changes in the workflow for that variants.

I think Capture One still has a barrier to entry with their pricing compared to Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. They need to reach parity or they will continue to lag.

Canon shooter (ex-fuji hence why I stay subscribed). Best video explaining what the new features are in C23! These features will definitely improve my workflow, even though most of my work is tethered. I do have my first event shoot coming up so the importing improvements will make culling so much easier. Great video. Thanks. I use ON1 because I don't need to bother with sessions and catalogues. Suggestion to CaptureOne: Sessions/Catalogue options. The single catalogue idea is both dangerous and nuts. Better to: a) Create session before import (normal workflow) OR b) simply select a folder and have C1 automatically create a session IN THAT FOLDER using folder name (with option use base folder as capture folder OR move images to ‘capture’ folder.) *Auto add* sessions to catalogue (should be default)!!!!! If you lose the catalogue file, it would be easy to rebuild it by scanning drive(s) for sessions and auto-add. This would *always* store session in folder so if you move folder the session goes with the folder. It could auto-update catalogue with new location if needed. Case in point: If I move my external drive between main and laptop computer I a) won’t lose my session and b) the laptop catalogue would auto update Lightroom has ability to 'find missing photos', so if a catalogue can't find images from original location, I can simply show where the session file 'my vacation in Utah' is. This is great if I've archived folders elsewhere. Bottom line: The Session-File, not the Catalogue file, is king.

C1 has come a long way since I first used it back in 2005. But Lightroom took over for me back at the start of 2007 when they gave me version 1. I’ve got a Lightroom library that has all my images from 2006 to now so hard to walk away from that although I do off shoots in C1 from time to time

I wish programs like these were just a life time purchase, instead of these subscriptions. Same with Adobe, so unfortunate.

Great video! I have briefly used Capture One Pro in the past (I think it was 20 or 21) and did a couple of sessions with it. The import process is so much better than Lightroom, but my biggest issue is that I have years of images already in Lightroom and the adjustments (from RAW) are not compatible with Capture One. I also had Capture One crash on me an unacceptable number of times. Anyway, after making a long detour through using the new Lr and syncing to Lr Classic for the features it didn't have, I recently went back to Lr Classic only (after upgrading to v12 it completely hosed my sync folder and apparently Adobe is no longer recommending using sync between the two, grrr). The other thing I did was separate my art photography (street, landscape, etc.) into its own catalog, separately from personal photos and sessions like model shoots. So here's why I gave this long explanation: although I don't do a lot of sessions, I do them occasionally, and I can see using Capture One for that purpose, as it's clearly superior to Lightroom in terms of importing, categorizing and creating a homogeneous look for the session. I had written off Capture Pro but this video has reignited my interest in it, even though I'm pretty sure I'll stick with Lightroom for my art photography. Thanks so much!

Just a heads up if you’re using Capture 1-21 you will not be able to open Raf. Files from the Xt 5 you must upgrade to Capture 1-23

Hi pal2tech, Tethering question: In Hasselblad's PHOCUS software, you can touch-up while you take pictures in tethering, change the desired color, raise or lower the contrast and lighting, then you use that example live & while you take pictures you see all the shots already like the final image, so you can see the end result in all of them. Will I be able to do that with CAPTURE ONE? Like a preview!

Thanks for this video. Im happy to have choosen to not buy the new version. I have decided to turn myself to LR for the price and feature. I didnt accept the rise of the price. Last time I bought C1 22, it was 180$. This version 23 was 260$. The features you showed dont worth the price, for me. LR is about 160$ per year. And you can do much more, like grouping people across the shoot (face recognition for example). C1 need to review their upgrade price.

I haven’t seen a program worse than capture one! It kept crashing my computer as soon as I selected any raw file. I am referring to capture one for Fuji. The only option was to cancel my subscription, because it was impossible to use the program. I have a GFX 100s, and maybe the files are too big for the program to handle. Photoshop has no problem with these files and it’s quite fast

thank you for clarifying the variant update on capture 23. do you have a work around of deleting variants that you no longer want? even though i delete it in an albu, its still part of my catalog and then I end up with a bunch of outdated variants

The new Culling looks like a worthwhile improvement. I will be testing that out soon. The "Smart Adjustments" sounds very limited so far in what it can do, and what it can be used for, as it appears to depend heavily of finding faces in images, and can so far only adjust 2 sliders: WB, and Exposure. But if they will expand on this system in future, this might also become more useful.

I will likely switch when they add automasking on the level of Lightroom.

There used to exist different versions of C1, one per camera brand. Is that no longer the case.? The first time I bought it I got the fujifilm version, now theres only the pro and iPad versions.

New to this so might be a daft question. Do capture one offer the capability of photoshop in their system to reduce things like wrinkles, double chin and remove items from the picture? If not what would you recommend.

2:58 capture one continues to crash the shadows, her hair is almost gone and you can only get a guess at her eyes. I needed to open the shadows to know what her eye color actually is. I love they did the multi-GPU thing and I love that the price is no longer ridiculous (still. 24$ per month for capture one, vs. 9.99 for Lightroom + photoshop + 20GB of cloud, or lightroom +1TB of cloud) but it still expensive. At least the 108 annually goes to 9$ per month, so it's less for less. Then there is the stability issues. No amount of enthusiasm is going to fix that.

My simple question is, since I will go out and maybe only shoot 40 shots, (Fuji) in jpeg and raw, my bias is to drag about half of those to a folder on my desktop. But I have not found that this version of Capture will give me a custom sub menu under Curves of Fuji sims to adjust a single photo ( a raw file that has it's jpeg on it's folder that had a sim embedded) when I choose it. Does the file still need to be on the camera? I'm trying to avoid Capture from loading everything on the card...

Will it work slower on older computers compared to previos versions? I use an iMac 27 2017 24GB memory and thunderbolt disc for catalog and rawfiles

Have you imported pictures where the JPEGs are B&W and also the .RAF files are B&W. These RAWs won't change to a color picture until you change the style. How do I change that? There are some conflicting info on the web.

I'm currently using Capture One 23 on Windows, and while the live view performance has improved for my X-S10 (no more camera freeze when taking a shot in live view), the live view on screen still has 2 black borders along the long edge of the frame, which affects the grids (the grids extend into the black bars, which makes the grid incorrect and harder to judge composition). Can you have a look into this? I mainly shoot still life so having a correct grid in live view is beneficial. Many thanks!

can Capture one 2023 handle fujifilm Xh2 raw files ?

Shown below is two comments (combined into one) that I very recently made regarding your review video of the C1-2022 software. Shortly after making that comment, I found this video where you are doing a review of the newer C1-2023 software. I went back and did additional research on the C1 website to see if this newer version would required me to make changes in my previous comment for the C1-2022 package. No changes were required. As this video reviews the later (most recent version of the C1 software), and everything I mentioned in my previous comment still applies, I have repeated it here. That (repeated) comment is shown immediately below: I do a lot of Macro photography, and this many times means that I need a software that is capable of Focus Stacking. This feature is lacking in the C1 software, and that is a deal breaker (meaning "No Sale"). The C1 website states that one must buy a second software package (i.e., "Helicon Focus") which will do the Focus Stacking. So, price wise, to buy a license for C1 (i.e., "Capture One Pro 23") is $299, but one cannot do any Focus Stacking without also buying Helicon Focus. The cost for a "Helicon Focus Premium package" lifetime license is $240. That is a total of $539.00 one must spend to be able to edit their photos and to do focus stacking if/when needed. I think that this is a serious oversight on the part of the C1 manufacturer and is destined to cost them in the "sales" department. My personal opinion is that any photo editing software that is worth anything (especially one that costs $299.00) should include the ability to do focus stacking. You might ask, "Well, not everyone does macro photography and (therefore) not everyone needs focus stacking in a photo editing software package. I believe that this type question would only be asked by a novice photographer who does not realize that the need to focus stack can be found in all types of photography (e.g., landscape, street, product photos, etc.). It certainly is not just limited to those photographers doing macro photos. Last, but not least, I have used one photo editing software package since the days when it came on one 3.5" diskette. It is not one of the more costly brands, but it does include focus stacking. This software package is Corel's "PaintShop Pro 2023". The cost of this package is $79.99 and, while it may not have all the editing features of Adobe's Lightroom or Photoshop (e.g.), it does have some very nice photo editing features and it includes the ability to do focus stacking! For a cost of $79.99, I consider this software to be a real "steal" compared to the other more expensive commercial brands of software, especially those commercial packages with lease only purchase options. PS - I would love to see you do a review of Corel's Paintshop Pro 2023 software for photo editing and focus stacking (cost = $79.99 for full package). However, I think that this review would be impossible for you to do as you are now being sponsored by (i.e., are an employee of?) C1, which would be a competitor of Corel's Paintshop Pro 2023. To bad, as I would have really been interested to hear your professional thoughts on the Paintshop Pro 2023 package which also includes focus stacking.

I have a yearly subscription that auto renews to Capture One for Fuji ( it just renewed recently) Does that subscription allow me to download Capture One 23 and have my subscription cover the cost - in other words for free?

It's annoying that every editor has different names and shortcuts for the same features. I guess they are afraid of copyright infringement claims, but it makes confusing for anybody trying to use a different software than they always use.

Fix catalogs. Stop gaslighting us C1. Don't come up with DAM features if your catalogs aren't stable month to month.

I have had Capture One 22 and have nothing but trouble getting it to work properly with my Mac mini with Ventura. I havre been in touch with tech support for Capture One and they have been useless. My only fix for the program is to reload it every couple of days. While I love it when it works properly, for my Mac it just is too troublesome to rely upon. What alternative would you suggest for my Mac and Fuji camera?

Slightly disappointed on this update.. Been using capture one for 15 years or so but they start lack behind in masking and subject detection. I spent most time in my raw editing on making faces masking eyes and so on. Adobe use ai to do this for me and lumina neo does it do..

Much as I like Capture One I cannot abide by their sluggish file management solution, which continues to be extremely poor compared to Lightroom. My library exceeds 200k photos, and it's simply impossible on C1. Having just had a go at the free trial with the new C1 23, it's still a big no no from me. I do wish the Danish engineers would dedicate more resources to this particular issue that has plagued C1 from day one.
