In today's video we're talking about my experience using Imagen AI to edit for me. I didn't really know what to expect but I was honestly blown away by this software. So what does this mean for the photography industry as a whole? This video is more of an overview of my experience and sharing my initial thoughts. But I hope to continue this discussion and make more videos on this topic moving forward!

I’m one of those people who would never use an editor because my business is so small (I have no plans to make it my full time work), so for me, this program or Aftershoot (which is what I’ve been using) is helping me a lot! I’m able to cull, edit, and deliver family and senior galleries the next day! All that being said, you’re right, shooting in consistent light makes all the difference (I have taken your L&L and Consistency and Family Posing courses, and have the preset process, I love them all!!!) and obviously those things are probably 95% of the success! 😉 Thank you, KJ! I've been using the KJ editing and shooting systems for years and Imagen is working so beautifully for me. I'm able to deliver galleries next day and they are looking better than ever. I discovered it because of your reel. Thank you for changing my editing life.

Coming back after watching this video 2 weeks ago to give an update! This new AI tool is not life changing, it is life GIVING. Over the past two weeks I have edited and delivered two weddings (one was the largest wedding I’ve ever delivered and I delivered within one week of shooting it), and have shot and delivered 11 sessions. Keep in mind that I am 8 months pregnant, have a 13 month old, and I don’t have help / nanny / daycare. Also, I would have never in a million years hired an editor because it’s out of budget. This product has literally given me my life back. Before watching this video I was extremely worried about what the next month and a half would look like. I wanted to go on maternity Dec 1 and be able to spend more time with my 13 month old before the new baby came. It sounded absolutely impossible given this is the busy season. I was honestly a little heart broken. I am now going on maternity leave the week of thanksgiving (earlier than I could have ever hoped!). While I’m against most other AI products, imagen AI is a great tool for established (and exhausted lol) photographers. I’ve recommended it to all my photographer friends. SO worth it.

So I just used imagen this past weekend for a wedding. It was amazing saved me time I usually go back and just do quick checks and do small tweaks (white balance, exposure) but there almost none. Even with the small tweaks it saved me bunch of time and allowed me to send out sneak peak next day

As a mom of two busy boys, I would love to have this as a tool, especially during fall busy season so I can still have a life and enjoy fall myself! I’ve had a friend recommend it to me, so I am definitely interested! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on AI, Katelyn!

Thank you for this informative video! I have always had a love/hate relationship with editing. I love the art and creativity of it, but it can be super time consuming. I think this will help with some of my pain points. I'm excited to try it out!

Do you have any plans to sell your Imagen AI profile? I listened to your podcast on this topic too - creating and selling profiles in different styles could be an opportunity for private editors - I'm not near consistent enough and would love my profile tweaked by a pro editor.

I'm so curious to see how this will do with second shooter images mixed into wedding galleries that are not always as consistent or the same camera/shooting style as the primary photographer! Definitely going to give it a try.

Two of my friends already use AI for editing. It sounds amazing! I LOVE photographing but not editing. When I was younger, I loved editing as well but now that I am older and have two tweens, I don't want to be sitting behind a computer all day. I need to learn more about this.

So, the scary part is that “it learns you”, then all your years of unique photo editing experience and subtle technique get captured into file; they have all they need from you. So now they can basically “sell you” as a plugin preset to millions of other people without your consent, awareness or you making any income from it. Yes it’s amazing, but as of yet we have no exclusivity over the skills we teach it, and that’s where I begin to have issues. I don’t have issues with the AI, I have issues over how the data AI collected will be utilised without the explicit consent of the “teacher”. They get to make millions off of YOUR skills as an editor without your continued involvement, meanwhile you make nothing. If they were to create a payment model where you received passive income from all the people who utilised your presets and input for example, like PPL for songs, then I could see that being a useful business model.

Hi Katelyn, I just wanted to say a big thanks for your tutorials - they've been a real lifesaver for me. I've been testing out AI editing tools on a trial basis, and now I'm thinking about buying one. However, I'm feeling a little stuck on which tool to choose, mainly because of my budget. Your insights on the pricing have been super helpful, but I'm still a bit worried about the costs. I'd really appreciate your personal advice on this. Thanks a bunch for all your help!

So it sounds like Imagine AI only does LR edits - so it would not do things like liquify hair, remove distracting people, clean up skin? We would still have to do that by hand in PS.

As a private editor and photographer, I looked at this like I do my business. My style and my prices are not for everyone. Private editing is not for everyone either. There were already "big box store" editing services out there but I believe there will always be people who want the personal connection of a private editor. What's interesting is, one of my clients uses ImagenAI for her anchors and then has me edit the rest of the gallery. It works for her.

I shoot a lot of concerts where the lighting is constantly changing. Should I just not try to use Imagen for those? (I also shoot portraits and regular events.)

Exactly, also you might forget all you have learnt because AI is going to process all editing. People will be come lazy and stupider in my opinion.

it sure is quite incredible what AI can do. Editing so many photos so fast is wow! and saves a lot of time. Editing is time consuming. It would be awesome if an app like this would be free in the future. I am no pro photographer, It is simply a hobby that I cherish and enjoy. :) nice video.

I don't even take 600 photos on an engagement shoot! I'm training Imagen Ai for the studio I work for, I'm hoping it gives us more consistent editing for our studio portraits.

I do a lot of events every week. I take about 7-10,000 photos each week. The cost of Imagen AI would really add up. Could I charge more to the clients? There's a ceiling for my area in my niche.

Are you uploading your touched up galleries back into Imagen so that it keeps learning your style and getting more consistent for you? I think that feature sounds amazing.

I would imagine this would mostly affect Camera Manufacturers as you will be able to buy less expensive lenses or cameras, i.e. no more Canon RF high aperture lenses

Something that should be added is astonished photographers and editors have their presets on their as well. So a newbie photographer wouldn’t even have to learn how to edit much. Just getting these other photographers style. I get that they wouldn’t have their own style, but not everyone gets into this industry for anything other than money.

CAN IMAGEN AI PLEEEEAASSEEE MAKE A KJ TALENT PROFILE?!??!!? I have been using ImagenAi for a while with the KJ Presets, I LOVE it. But sometimes I would like to see what your profile would look like if I have a super quick turnaround.

I would think the editors would use AI to speed up their own work... just like buying any tool makes it faster to do your job. It doesn't do it all for you but it gets it closer so you have less to do... and since it learns as you go, should get even faster over time.. I'm lazy/efficient, though.. and I don't let my ego get in the way either.

Submit your final edits so that when you have enough data to fine-tune, the profile learns from those changes and gets closer to where you want them to be 🙂

Does it know to get rid of things that it thinks shouldn't be there? Like street lights, road signs, other people's hands with phones during a wedding, etc. If not, then I think the editors should take adv of this and pass the savings to the photographer. So rather than charging $0.39/pic, maybe it's $0.15 because they would also be using IMAGENAI to start with. Now the photographer prob pays you the same amount but more volume. Win win? I'm neither but just makes more business sense from an outsider.

F-in joke... Any pro photog knows what we might think is trash is gold to the buyer. Only delete out of focus or flat out missed shots. When someone buys an image you was gonna trash you'll see things differently. Ai is gonna make you lose money in the short & long run!
