Alright, I did not see this one coming, but in the end, it all worked out just fine. It's always a great thing to get free bees from a swarm trap, but to have multiple heart palpitations while retrieving the bees is quite unexpected. I hope you enjoy following along the roller coaster ride these bees gave me. Thanks for watching. See you all in Quincy, Illinois in a few days. God's peace to all.

Hi Mr. Ed. I'm not a beekeeper but a good neighbor to one, I hope. Call me a beekeeper supporter. I grow as many wildflowers as the town will allow (yes that is sarcasm as they aren't bee and herb friendly...just don't know any better...yet?). I really enjoy your videos and it helps me understand what is going on. I love the part where you find the queen. You sure are brave! Keep 'em coming. ❤

In my book, it matters not that you keep bees. What is important is because bees are essential to our very survival, we all take steps in making sure they have the means to keep doing what they do. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Jacki. Mr. Ed

It's always a good idea to move the swarm a good distance from the place of capture, that way they will not return to it. Verry, verry interesting video. A trick that I have learned that usually works is, if you think the bees are balling a queen, pick up the ball and drop it in a pan of water. When the bees start swimming for their lives, re-cage the queen and reintroduce her by whatever method works for you or otherwise use her someplace else.

I had a similar swarm this year. Didn't matter how many times I scooped them up or locked them in, they went back to the same branch. They faded away over a few weeks and I finally did a combine with another hive when their queen disappeared.

Had my mentor and others visit my apiary in the trees yesterday. It was hot and humid, 88 degrees, 88% humidity. We sat under the trees listening to bees. It's 69 degrees @ 4am now and the frogs in the swamp are really croaking quite loudly. It is pretty quiet besides the frogs and I can also hear some Loons from nearby Squam Lake calling their lonesome sounding calls. But down south it's the honey house! About a week ago I caught a swarm in the process of leaving the hive, so I ran out to watch the landing board. In less than a minute the queen came out and I grabbed her! It took awhile but the bees that had been collecting about 70 feet up in a tree took to the air and came back down and landed on a "swarm branch" that I baited with 'Temp Queen'. It was an easy shake to get them into a box then into the nuc where I had placed the queen, so cool. I posted it, kzfaq.infoMNy2AjCsWrM?feature=share. Always a pleasure Jeff, thanks for sharing, peace.

Wow! That's a lot of great swarm footage! Thank you to Julio for the first part assist. Curious though... I find that my "Yankee" queens way up here in NE Minnesota will rarely cross a frame of honey and start laying on the other side. Was wondering if your experience is different. Of course, maybe it is so cold up here that the queens think they are trying to get across a glacier and turn back... :-) Thank you Jeff! God's Blessings! -Jeff and Diane

Good Morning Mr. Ed. I was at my hives a week ago and have two issues in my apiary like what you're dealing with in this video. One is underneath an existing colony and has eight comb. The other colony decided to come into the storage shed where I keep my equipment on my friends farm. You would think the bees would have used one of the unused boxes. But no, It decided to start it's colony on the inside of the door. I have a vacuum for when I would remove colonies for friends. But this is in the field away from power. They are both easy to get to. Now I have to figure out how to get them moved to a box and to the second apiary a few miles away. It amazes me that a colony would do such a thing in the colder northeast. Have a great day.
