Really cool outtake from a Jimmie Johnson promo shoot where the Team 48 car falls off the lift! Almost crushes Jimmie and Chad! Look at the car balancing on the box at the end.

I think that lift is rated to hold a heavy truck/van. Nascar weighs less than the average car? The shop Jimmie Johnson is shooting at, 100% must be a top rated shop which means all their components are maintained regularly. Everything is cleaned and I doubt routine inspections do not occur. With all that said it was 99.999% staged.

Nope. Same old design as ~25 years ago... If it works, why change it? Look at transport trucks. All the current workings are basically interchangeable with models from the 70's. So they change the cab for aerodynamics and added trailer skirts... brake drums haven't changed at all. What does change in the world of lifts is weaker/thinner materials to try and save a buck in manufacturing. That lift most likely has a thicker baseplate than current models. Welcome to corporate america... where the bottom line is the only thing that matters. As for the lift dropping, it is a hoax. I think one or two people had zero clue it was going to happen to help create a feel of authentic fear but all in all, sparks from a box that is not even part of the lift do not cause mechanical failures. Pyrotechnics anyone? It is a show, after all ;-) If you look closely, the lock release lever is tied in the release position and there is an odd black line going to the disconnect box where the sparks occurred After the car started to descend. I doubt there is even a powertrain in that race car.

No debate this is an ad. The guy in the black shirt (with the bad poker face) walks to the left of the screen and sets off some timed mechanism to safely set the car on the box with an explosion to go along with it. The arms of the lift support the fall until the car is sitting on the box, then they drop like flies. Plus, no one brings toolboxes under cars.

Being an electrician i can tell ya that short in the control box wouldnt make the hydrolics fail in pressure. It would just short out the circuit with a boom and not just a few sparks. Plus those lifts have a fail safe that prevents the car from falling and keeping the hydrolics from under constant pressure while a load is raised. Just like a tractor with its bucket raised. The rams would have too fail all 4 of them. Not likly. Now, toss that box out the back of a moving truck and then ask for a screwdriver. If it opens with all its ballbearings in place still, never would, but if it did then id buy. Till then, wouldnt by either. Add or box
