Car iPod cable connection issue resolved on Land Rover

Bought a BlueTooth connector and cable set to connect my iPhone to my 2011 Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 for music streaming. However, I could not get the head unit to recognize the iPod connection but found a solution tucked away on the internet which resolved the issue.
This issue could apply to multiple vehicles with an old iPod connector.
Hope someone finds it useful as I did, was not sure if I was going to have to return the product.

Thanks so much for this video! I'm been dealing with this issue for months. We had a Bovee (equivalent to your device) that has worked for years and all of a sudden, it stopped working. I'd ordered two new ones, complained to the seller on Amazon and was banging my head against the wall. Your video prompted me to investigate and low and behold, I found our cord beneath the cup holders somehow disconnected! It must have happened while in service and the tech forgot to plug it back in. Again, thank you for taking the time to post. (2011 Land Rover LR4 with 155k miles and running strong)

Great news, my Landy is still happily running. A few niggles. But like yours it’s 12 years old now.

I have a 2010 RR sport with the beverage cooler in the center console. Does anyone know where that connector is stored? There are 4 screws in the cooler and I imagine that’s where it would be… just don’t want to take apart the car if it’s not necessary. As a note, I am having issues with the USB and getting the “device error” message when connecting the USB. Phone is connected fine.

Hi Jack, In a word yes!. I am using an iphone 12 Pro, in testing this just now, the bluetooth is connected to both the Invery and the Land Rover connection. I can make a call when music is playing and the phone call takes over the system audio, once my call was complete music restarts. I think the phone is taking care of this by sending the priority of the phone call to the Land Rover connection before switching back over the music to the Invery connection. Hope that makes sense.. Maybe someone else can add their experiences.

Haha, thanks for the comment, did I let it slip that I was from Edinburgh? Nice, my cousin back home once said I had a Scanadian accent😄! The USB (under the console) to lightning cable wouldn't work for my iPhone,. but I wanted wireless and didn't want to use the USB cable, hence the Invery, Not sure if you can get a LR cable to lighting though...

@Grammin where did you get the adapter cable to plug into the port in the console? I didn't receive the cable from the previous owner, hence not able to use other audio devices.

I got really excited when I found this video, followed the instructions but could not get it to connect. I used my unreliable 30pin apple cable and it worked so it’s not the female to female section. Grammin, do you come across any other tricks worth trying? Thanks a lot for your advice and for doing the vids

Hi, thanks for the comment. Since this video is a while back I can confirm that the connection is still working although the Invery connector did come apart a bit. Once I clicked it together all was fine. Other than whatever I have said in other comments, that’s all I got, this video fix was my last ditch effort at the time, lol. Cheers!

No worries at all mate, I managed to get the name of the ipod to come up but that's the only difference, looks like unfortunately I'll have to pay land rover a visit. This was definitely worth the try first

@@warny69 Interesting, cause getting the name up was the hard part. Maybe, if you haven't, try someone else's device also the volume controls on the device and the car control the volume ( I'm sure you checked that though). Good luck!

Nah it’s old tech. I can’t seem to get the USB to connect to anything even after I remade the connection below.

I've had the same trouble! Followed your advice but I still get "device error".... Interestingly the only way I can get the Bluetooth is to plug in the USB into the back of the Invery as well - anyone else had that issue?

Hi Andrew, I'm not 100% convinced my USB connector next to the ipod connector is working properly, so I don't think I can help, sorry!
