The Back Story:
Back in 1967, a young Oldsmobile Test Track engineer named Dick Haas special ordered this '67 442 W30 and took it to General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds as a high-performance test car. Loaded with every factory speed part available, this black-on-black W30 factory drag racer made its mark in major NHRA events, representing the Oldsmobile brand on and off the track.
This car is one of only two sequential test-track cars built specifically for NHRA racing in the summer of '67. It has put its mileage on one-quarter mile at a time and shows just 32,000 original miles today.
The dedication of the original owner to preserve this muscle car's history is evident in the meticulous frame-off restoration supervised by him. Everything is period-correct, from the numbers-matching 350hp 400ci V-8 to the twin-snorkel forced air induction, red fender liners, and 12-bolt Anti-Slip rear end. Even the interior remains 100-percent original.
With only 129 W30 sport coupes produced, this car is a rare find. The W30 option added a performance package that upgraded the already potent 442. The factory performance package is easily identified by its Force-Air air cleaner with tubes running to tapered scoops in the front grille. The battery was mounted in the trunk to accommodate the air-tube routing. Red inner fenders and a hotter camshaft with special valve springs gave the W30 a street advantage.
This Oldsmobile 442 W30 is a holy grail of the hot muscle car era. Its provenance, limited production, and stunning restoration make it a true collector's item.

My favorite car.

I was the happiest 17year old in town. I had a five year old Olds 67 442. It is by far the most favorite car I have ever owned. (56 Chevy, 1969 442, 69Chevelle, 71 Olds 442, 73 Cutlass, 76 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with the Hurst Hatch Roofs) My 67 was black vinyl roof/white body. 400CI engine, Turbo Hydramatic 400 Trans. It kicked butt! It was in perfect condition when I bought it, only in the 60K mile range........paid a whole $550.00 for it from the local Lincoln/Mercury Dealer. It got totaled one night by my drunk elderly neighbor. I replaced it with a 1973 Cutlass with a electric pop-up sunroof. Had to get back for my "need for speed" and bought the My understanding for 67 that 442 stood for 400CI, 4Barrel Carb (Carter), Dual Exhaust. The tamer Cutlass with same body style had just a mildly tamer 330CI engine with a Turbo Hydramatic 350 Trans. I believe there was also a F85 Model but I forget what it was exactly. I was inspired by my cousin who had the true 1965 442, 400CI, 4speed, dual exhaust. It was a screamer.

Why was it called a W -30 ?

It was an engine upgrade including a hotter cam, valve springs and cold air induction in 67. I think it had an electronic ignition as well but I'm not sure if that was part of the W- 30.

We never know who it will be; over the years we've had retired people, disabled vets, a pickle salesman, retired steel mill worker, corrections officers, truck drivers and more. It's an electronic random ticket selected by an independent agency- so it can be anyone out of who enters.
