Hi everyone! I hope this video was helpful and informative! I’ve felt very strongly that I should share my story and hope that it brings awareness to Preeclampsia! It’s a little scary to put this out there knowing that there are so many people better informed and knowledgeable about this topic. I just hope hearing it from a normal person that went through it knowing nothing about it beforehand, can enlighten even one person! Feel free to ask any questions below! Have an amazing week! :) -Cara

I just have to say THANK YOU. I watched your preeclampsia video when I was entering my third trimester, and had this weird feeling that it was going to happen to me. LITERALLY - your exact situation, of not knowing and feeling fine and then suddenly having preeclampsia, happened to me. I was aware and a lot more reassured after watching your video! I ended up having to have an emergency c-section due to preeclampsia/HELLP syndrome, and it was scary, but by the grace of God, He allowed me to see your video beforehand and it gave me so much peace during my situation. Thank you again.

I’m here to say that I had all many of those symptoms SEVERELY and my doctor ignored my concerns and continuously told me I didn’t have it for weeks until I followed my gut at 37 weeks and went to L&D on my own to find out I indeed had severe preeclampsia! I was immediately admitted and induced and later found out that my baby girl had stopped growing at 34 weeks due to my preeclampsia. I’m glad I followed my gut otherwise my baby girl wouldn’t be here today💗

Same happened to me. I delivered at 35 weeks my doctor told me everything was normal pregnancy symptoms after my appointment I decided to go to L&D and then I find out I had hellp syndrome and severe preeclampsia I end up on intense care for over 10 days luckily my baby and I made it.

Something really similar happened to me. At my 28 week appointment, my blood pressure was so high that when they read off the number, I said, “Holy sh!t!” My doctor told me high blood pressure in pregnancy was normal. He asked me if I had any concerns, and I told him about how I couldn’t breathe at night and how even with compression socks, I was getting so swollen that I physically could not walk (not an exaggeration). He told me all of it was normal and just to keep doing what I was doing. So I neglected to tell him about the blurry vision. Thankfully my partner told him that my face had started swelling too. Again, was told that was normal. He told us that preeclampsia was super rare and I wouldn’t have it. 5 days later, I had a seizure, and had to take an ambulance to the ER. Baby girl was born just fine and doing great. I fought for my life for at least 3 days after that. Hearing y’all’s stories is really helping me feel not alone and very validated. 💖

Thank you so much for sharing this, Cara! It will help so many moms-to-be 🙏🏻 I did not get diagnosed with pre-eclampsia with Greyson, but I did get diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension and they believe it was about to turn into pre-eclampsia because I had high blood pressure, horrible swelling and bad headaches just like you mentioned 😩 I only discovered my BP because I thought my water was leaking so my OB sent me to labor & delivery! It was there they discovered my blood pressure was super high and decided to induce me at 37 weeks. God was definitely looking after you and I! He is so good 💕 I’m so thankful you and Quinn were okay and I cannot believe she is about to turn ONE 🤯😍

Yes! Thank you for making this video, I hope other expecting mamas will watch this and take this seriously. You don’t have to fit the “mold” to be in danger of preeclampsia. Our pregnancies sounded pretty much identical! I went through all of this and NEVER would have guessed it would have turned into severe preeclampsia/HELLP. On top of that I experienced slight pain under my right ribs and when I brought it up to my ultrasound tech she told me it was most likely the baby in my ribs...yikes! You didn’t make ANY wrong decisions, you didn’t know! I believe 100% God was watching out for us in our pregnancies.

This brought back sooo many memories of getting preeclampsia at 33 weeks as well - VERY similar story (with the trip&everything) but I had a gut feeling that I was going to be diagnosed with preeclampsia when I went to my 33week check up but it was still a shock to deliver so early!! You are right.. God was right there with you the whole time and kept you safe! I thank God every day for saving my life and saving my baby's life as well.

I didn't end up having preeclampsia but my OBGYN was watching me closely because they were afraid of me developing it. I think I actually found your videos because of your preeclampsia experience and your c section. I had to have a c section at 37 weeks because my blood pressure was rising and I was having problems with my liver. It's such a scary thing to have a little human growing in your belly and your body starts to not do well! Thanks for bringing awareness to preeclampsia!

Thanks for sharing. It's soooo easy to look back on things and kick yourself for the decisions you've made. I'm glad you're not doing that. It's much more productive to talk about it and make others aware. I don't believe you did anything wrong... and even if you did, why should you feel guilty about it? People make mistakes all the time... all of which are opportunities to learn, mature and grow from. I'm so glad that you are all safe and happy.

Your birth story helped me so much!! When I was at 33 weeks I got diagnosed with gestational hypertension and had to be monitored twice a week for blood pressure by the time I was 36 weeks my blood pressure was like 200/97 and they had to induce me and I was also developing preeclampsia. It was so scary I remember watching your videos and it helped me sooo much! I absolutely love your channel! I also had subtle symptoms that I kinda brushed off and gradual swelling but looking back now I see that they were red flags. I look at photos of me when I was 34/35 weeks and my face was so much more swollen than usual I can’t believe I didn’t notice. Lol.

Thank you for sharing your story and raising awareness. I had PIH with my first and was induced two weeks early. I had it very mildly with my second and not at all with my third or fourth babies. So hopefully it won't be as severe for you with subsequent pregnancies. But I'm in my 40's now and have pre-hypertension, so I have to watch my BP. It's interesting to read that there is possibly a link between PIH and a higher risk of chronic hypertension later in life. Thanks again for this video!

hi Cara ~ Love your pretty sweater...I just want to say that you are brave to share what happened to you with preeclampsia and I think it will help alot to get the word out there to pregnant moms or anyone who wants to educate themselves to help others also. Thank God and He watched over you because your experience with Quinns birth was indeed scary. The only thing I could suggest to other moms to be, is to maybe also monitor their blood pressure at home if it is on the higher side then usual although this may not be a usual symptom of preeclampsia? It appears to me it is very hit or miss to diagnose actually as are many diseases. I am so thankful you and baby are well and came through this! hugs....

I think during pregnancy you should not be thinking smth is wrong unless dr confirms smth is wrong... otherwise you'd do more harm than good by stressing and worrying. I am 20 weeks. Anyone watching this who is planning a pregnancy, pregnant, or knows someone who is tell them to control the number of carbohydrates during this time. Everything is heightened during pregnancy, including being much more insulin sensitive. This also can lead to pre eclampsia. The two are related. Keep carbs as low as possible, including seed oils and pre packaged foods with a shelf life. Go for a walk as much as possible and sleep when tired. Ive worn support stockings/socks during the lead up to and during my pregnancy and it's helped my tired legs. But, seriously, you can control all these symptoms with diet, it's that powerful! See videos on Dr berg, Dr ken berry, low carb down under and type in low carb pregnant, see the difference out can have by controlling your own health through diet. I measure my own blood glucose and pressure twice a day and love how it makes me feel in control. Low carb is how our ancestors lived for millions of years, it's what our bodies have adapted to, not a standard westernised diet which makes us all sick, especially when pregnant. The best of luck to anyone who's pregnant or just wanting to improve their health.

This was such a well said and informative video Cara! I’m so glad you shared this despite the anxiety and knowledge that’s there’s alwaysss that person who thinks they know everything and is critical! It’s so important and admiral that you’re setting boundaries. Also, this EXACT thing happened to my mom! I was her first baby and she had a completely normal pregnancy with no signs of anything strange (that she knew at the time at least) until all of a sudden she got super sick at I think like 28 weeks maybe? I’d have to ask her but anyway she was rushed into emergency and diagnosed with HELLP & had to get a C-section and her body shut down so fast that the doctor said neither her or I would make it! Thank God everything was okay. I was born 2 pounds 10 ounces and spent 2 months in nicu but was otherwise healthy! And hopefully this reassures you for your next pregnancy, my mom was considered “high risk” after than but when she was pregnant with her 2nd baby, she had a perfectly healthy full term pregnancy & my sister came on her due date 💛 Sorry to write such a novel lol it’s just so crazy how similar my mom’s experience and yours is!

Your honesty about your feelings are going to help so many women who think they’re alone in their own uncomfortable feelings. Trusting your instincts and telling your doctor how you really feel is so important. I’m so happy that your doctors, nurses, and hospital were able to deliver your baby and get you healthy again. I was wondering if when you had the headaches, did you take a pregnancy safe pain reliever? You did absolutely nothing wrong! You would have had the same situation if had stayed home with your feet up.

With my first child, who is now age 21, I developed preeclampsia around 38 weeks. My symptoms were very similar to yours with the hurting feet. I have rheumatoid arthritis so I thought it was that and the extra weight-I gained 50 lbs. lost 30 Within the first week postpartum because I had so much fluid. BP and proteinuria indicated condition severe. Mag sulfate, bunch of other drugs to lower BP, and baby was born about 20 hours later via forceps because she was face up. Difficult recovery! Having my son years later at age 41 was a comparative breeze! Glad you and baby made it through. It’s no fun!

Thanks for sharing! Glad everything went well. Seems like your doctor didn't explain things too well. Also, were you not offered the option of baby aspirin at the beginning of the pregnancy? My OB explained all common complications at my first appointment, esp pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes. So did the OB after my 12 week scan. Not sure why this risk wasn't mentioned at all.

Wow!!! Thank you for thos video.. i honestly didnt know how common Pre-eclampsia is. I too had it with my 4th baby, id never had it before so this was all new to me. I felt so alone 😢. Just a little background, i was 42 when i delivered my son at 37 weeks. I had no symptoms that I knew of. No protein in urine, no high BP, no blurry vision.. Nothing.. except one day i had a bad nose bleed while asleep and another day i woke up swollen realy bad from my feet and my feet used to hurt so bad while standing, my calfs were huge and I'm a skinny legs person lol. My hands would swell on and off, I'd tell my doctor and shed say it was normal, due to pregnancy. My calves felt tight, lik3 super tigh! I was seeing two doctors at different times and none detected protein or high BP. Until one day i go for what i think is a weekly check up and my BP was 180/110. My doctor is like do you feel ok? I'm like yes! Just winded from walking up to their floor lol.I see worry on my doctors face and the MA so they say that my BP is really high and they would let me rest for 30 min and come back to re-check. She said it was still very high and was scared I'd have a seizure or stroke so i was getting induced. Well you'd think that was the end of it but it wasnt.. my birth story was as crazy and post birth even crazier. Needless to say i had post partum pre-eclampsia. GOD was really looking out for me and my baby to say the least

This is why there are routine medical visits/protocols in place. Women used to die from pregnancy and labour-related complications. It's so much safer now with the appropriate and regular medical support.

Thank God you and baby are okay. you should have listened but it was your first pregnancy and how would you know what you don’t know. I had placenta previa my 1st pregnancy and the doctor didn’t tell me although the nurse attempted to tell me but he yelled at her saying not to worry the patient. I would have rather known earlier but some doctors think not to tell you the worse part so you don’t worry yourself and bring more stress. Now you know and your def helping other women like myself, just got the diagnosis today for my 2nd pregnancy so thanks for sharing.

Hi! I have the exact same story as yours!! All the same symptoms, and terrifyingly being admitted to the hospital immediately due to my routine OB checkup gone wrong--- high bp, protein in urine (plus super swollen). After 6 days in hospital of trying to control my bp with 12 pills a day, we finally decided to have the unplanned c-section to save my life. Thank goodness my baby girl was fine through it all and was also born 33w!! 22 days in the nicu later, we are all home now. She was born June 21. God bless you. What we went through was traumatic and difficult.

Thanks for this video! I’m ten weeks pregnant and I’ll be very careful to look for signs now. My mom had preeclampsia, with my sister, and she had a similar experience to yours. She looked very swollen but the doctor said it was fine. Then it kept getting worse and she insisted on coming back in. When she got there they said she needed to be taken to the hospital immediately! I don’t really understand why they don’t just go ahead and test early!

So glad you’re okay as well as baby!! 💕 just wondering, when did your doctor end up diagnosing you with preeclampsia- was it at a doctors appointment or when you went into labor? I’m due with my first at the end of May and this is so helpful to know!
@CaraJane

She told me at my appointment that’s what it most likely was, but didn’t actually diagnose me there I guess. When she sent me to the hospital they diagnosed it for sure within me only being there for a little bit. I never actually went into labor though.

I had preeclampsia too and I had minimal symptoms too. Luckily it was a mild case at the very end of my pregnancy, so when it was discovered at 37 weeks they just had me go in straight in to the hospital to be induced. I was pretty swollen but I thought it wasn't as bad at the time because everyone gets swollen at the end and I didn't realize it was that bad until I looked at pre-pregnancy photos in hindsight. The swelling happened slowly for me too, so it was hard to notice at the time. Like you I could also feel the swelling more than I could see it, I could feel tingles in my face and hands from time to time. I didn't even think to mention that to my dr. I also started gaining like 2-3 pounds a week the last month I was pregnant which was odd because I had been gaining at a very slow rate my whole pregnancy. My dr tested me because my bp was a little higher than usual. I have white coat hypertension so it's always high at the dr's anyway. I had been testing it at home and it had been fine the whole time, and my bp was also fine while I was on continuous monitoring at the hospital but I had high protein in my urine. Thank God it was caught before it got out of control and I'm healthy and my daughter is healthy, I know it could have been a lot worse.

You can ask your doctor about taking a low dose of baby aspirin during your second trimester. It shows a reduced chance of preeclampsia. I had preeclampsia with my first child (didn’t know it until I was in labor). I’m 39 weeks with my second child and took a low dose baby aspirin during my second trimester and I feel a lot better toward the end of this pregnancy. Hoping I don’t develop preeclampsia this time around. I am monitoring closely how I’m feeling and checking my blood pressure twice a day.

I don't think you are at fault on what happened at all. Your doctor should have explained the symptoms and risks of preeclampsia just so you were aware; even if she did not think that was happening. It is a common pregnancy complication. I am glad that you are bringing awareness to others.

I also had preeclampsia with my first daughter Abigail. And they didn’t catch it until I was 36 almost 37 weeks pregnant, and things escalated so quickly for me! Now looking back there were so many symptoms and signs of preeclampsia that I was experiencing and my doctor never thought I had it. Until one night I went to the hospital and I had gained 20lb in less than 2 weeks and my BP was super high! I feel like women need to be more aware of preeclampsia and how dangerous it can be!!! I love you and your vids and Quinn!💕
