Been installing for around 13 years. As a typical kid I assumed I knew everything. Found this channel along with others several years ago and you all have taught me to get back to the drawing board and study the mechanics that drive audio. I'm happy to live my life teaching others the right way rather then like me thinking i knew it all about installing and tuning, planning, equipment etc.. I'm a very proud audio fanatic and love everytime I turn a new fan into the audio department . Stay classy CAF (:

I installed a couple different full systems into my own car and installed head units in a bunch of friends cars. That was all back in the mid 90s. Later I spent 15 years working in Professional Audio Visual doing nearly all levels of House of Worship and Corporate AV design and installation. And now I'm getting back into Car Audio. =) Mark you've helped me redevelop the CAV bug along with expanding my interest in wood working in general. Thank you for 6 yrs of excellent effort and growth to make your channel what it is today. The best Car Audio training channel I've found!

I have a kicker cxa 400 .1 amp And a Skar Audio single 12 SDR sub with pre fab box at 1ohm rated at 600w rms since the amp is strong enough does that mean I will damage and ruin my amp and sub? Since it's underpowered I checked the amp Dyno sheet and it puts 514rms at 1ohm and 592 at (dynamic) This is the only amp I have And I was wondering if I could use it to power it as a temporary amp until I can get a better or would something bad happen if I do use this amp?😕

@@turbro7185 having said that your amp should push that sub with no problems. It's not underpowered. According to you the amps specs are 500~ RMS at 1ohm and the sub is rated for 600 watts RMS, that's only slightly off which in this case isn't an issue or enough to make a noticeable difference in listening. Install them correctly and you should be fine. When in doubt, which it seems like you are, give the money you're saving to someone who does quality installs. You'll appreciate it down the road. Bigger/ more expensive amps and subs do not equal better output.

About a dozen. My first was in a '66 Mercury Comet when I was 17(50 now): Majestic HU in factory opening. Majestic 40W booster to Yamaha 6.5s in the front doors. Majestic 150W rms amp to 2 12" Stillwater Kickers in a home-made box in the trunk. Currently working on 2 full systems. My wife's Highlander: Pioneer touchscreen HU, 6.5" components in front, 6.5" 2-ways in rear, 8" sub in sealed home-made box, 900W rms 5-channel amp. My Ranger: Pioneer HU, 2-way 6×8s in factory holes, 2 - 8" midbass under the rear jumpseats, and a quick(as it gets)-removable 15" for the low-lows, 2 - 900W rms 5-channel amps. Need to order wire, distribution blocks and several assorted doo-dads, assemble her box, build another of mine for the second 8", and build the box for my 15". Fun fun fun!

I started hooking up systems when I was 14 and did around 5 installs for friends that were older and got their own cars. Then over the years I did a few here and there. I think I've done maybe 10 or so installs. And as I got older I got better with patience and doing it right. And also being older and having more money really makes it a hell of a lot easier getting needed supplies lol. Man, the crap I cobbled together when I was 14 was atrocious but, I still got it to work and luckily no melt downs (even though there probably should have been). Side note: I started doing this in 91' and in shop class the teacher let me build a few boxes. First I built my home speaker cabinets and got a A++ then he let me build a bandpass and 2 slant face (1 for my self and one for a friend).

I installed the entire system myself included custom built enclosure for my 15” sundown subwoofer and also some really nice small birch enclosures for my rear coaxials. Also made custom door inserts to mount 6x9 coaxials and a 6.5 mid bass for each door.

My friends and I liked to mess around with sub woofers in highschool. I did a deck in my '87 Ford escort. Later in life I did a full system in a 2008 Mazda 3. I went all in on it... Speakers, deck, amps and sub woofer. I even did some sound deadening on that and even built the trunk floor/sub box. Was very proud of it. I now have a 2017 Subaru WRX. It's going to take awhile to save up the money but I will be going full send on it. Kenwood eXcelon speakers and amps, with duel kicker L7 10 inch subs. I'll also be doing a DSP for the first time with that build. I'm looking forward to it, but like I said, it'll be awhile!

After I ran my amps separate and both directly to the battery, grounded to whatever, ground loop problems from hell, etc. I started watching these videos. Now my old truck has newer gear, ran correctly, great sound in a really small area. I moved onto the 70 Pontiac. I'll never find the money for Audio Control but I'm confident in the 2-amp/speaker/subwoofer setup I've planned. Thanks for all the great videos and I think my trunk is going to come out sick because of those Fabrication videos as well!

I have done one very, very poor quality, ultra cheap single subwoofer/amp install on my old ford ranger, at a point in time where the limit of my knowledge ended with my IT tech training. these days, i know a lot more about the process and how to do it right. a lot of that due to your channel and the enthusiasm you have for this getting me to really sink my teeth in and understand what im doing. my big limiting factor is cashflow, so now i spend time every week or so, putting together full audio builds in various carts around the internet, and doing diagrams for how id put them together. i never get to hit the ORDER button, but its still fun none the less.

That was back in the early 90s. I've never got back into this hobby after selling that car. I've grown too old I guess. To me the fun part of this hobby is the installation... looking for ways to hide wires and all equipment so it looks as neat as possible. That's why I enjoy watching your video clips. Iv installed 2 complete systems and 2 installs to add an amp & subwoofer. All on my previous vehicles. My first was on my 2012 impreza. 4 Kicker door speakers pushed by a Rochford Fosgate punch amp and 2 Sony Xplod 12s on a sony xplod 1k watt power amp, ported box. I wired a new harness with a LOC so I didn't have to replace the headunit. I absolutely loved that car. Second. Replaced my rear 6x9s and added a LOC for a kicker pt250 10in sub w/ built in amp in my Buick. Third. I finally gave my 06 F150 an audio overhaul. Kicker D series 6x9s in the front/rear doors. JVL double din touchscreen/BT headunit and a 12in Kicker comp-R, came with a nice ported box. I probably spend a bit more than I should have considering the trucks age.. but, it's done now so.. lol oh well. And my last one is on my daily driver, 2018 subaru impreza. Iv already put a LOC on a new factory harness and added a 12in Kicker pushed by an alpine mrv-m500 amp. Currently Saving for the second amp/ door speakers and sound deadening equipment to add on at a later date. This one's going to look the cleanest so I can't be as sloppy as some of my previous work. I haven't destroyed anything yet however I have certainly pissed off my wife a few times for spending as much time as I do on these projects. And you know what?? she'll get over it LOL. It took way more time researching and learning about ohms/wiring sequences and proper installation than the actual install itself.. not to mention looking for the best quality equipment. If I had any advice to give it would be this. Depending on your knowledge/experience with car audio. After figuring out you want/need.. Put in the work to educate yourself on the basics and the specifics. Make sure you know what equipment you need so your not burning up your new speakers, subwoofer and amplifiers.. or worse case, you or your car.

I’m super proud of my current setup but I think I’m gonna have to ad a second battery now. Headlights starting to dim under heavy bass load. I’ve done Probly 20 systems in the past 2-3 years. I’ve added secondary battery’s but never a bigger alternator. But I’ve done some sketchy systems, big systems, gone in behind people and cleaned up their rat nests of wiring, etc. I feel like I’ve seen it all. Now I usually pull all seats out and pull up carpet to do everything super neat like and when it comes to my own system, I don’t spare a penny to do it right

Watching these video in 2021 alot has changed I need to upgrade my headunit in my 92 Foxbody mustang this gives me a lot to chew on. Thanks for all the great info. The Alt will be upgraded this spring LOL.

I’ve done about 20 systems already ranging from a conservative 600w system to a 7000w competition system. Your videos have helped me so much over the years and I only learn more from you every time you post. My only wish is to be able to afford the fabrication tools to be able to create the masterpieces you do. Thank you so much for your time and your knowledge. I am greatly appreciative!

I've done a few over my lifetime (I'm 47). However, I am fixing the installer issues that I discovered and improving the system. I saw your recommendation on 14ga speaker wire. The installer used 16ga, including my subwoofer. Ouch. I'm making those corrections after seeing this and your other many videos I have watched in the past week. I have learned a TON from you. Keep it going!

Mainly just helped diagnose various malfunctions in friends or families systems. Although, when I turned 16, well technically before I had officially turned 16 and could drive on my own, I bought my first car, and put a Sony deck in it. Added Pioneer 5 1/2" rounds to the doors and Pioneer 6 × 9's to the rear dash. Then bought a set of MTX Audio 12" RoadThunder subs in their factory sealed box with the matching 250watt RoadThunder amp. The car was a typical first beater but I loved my system, so did everyone else who jumped in to run a muck around town with me. One day I parked my car right outside my girlfriend's house, ran inside to drop something off, was less than 5 minutes. Ran back to my car, jumped in and hit play on my music, and could tell something was way wrong. I turned around to find my subs, amp, and capacitor were all gone and all that remained were the 4 rubber feet from the amp and the 2 mounting rings for the cap, since those were all secured to the metal floor of the trunk, and just my wiring, bare and exposed protruding from the carpet floor liner. Middle of the day, busy area JUST across the street from a beehive-like Dairy Queen that was lined with customers. Not 1 person said they noticed anything occur near my car in the 4 minutes it took someone to unlock the doors through the barely cracked drivers window, pop the trunk, and physically rip my entire system from the trunk of my car, and vanish. That was almost 11 years ago. Found out over 6 years ago who had done it and that they still had everything they stole from me. Contacted LE to tell them what I found out, and they told me theyd try calling the person on my behalf and ask them if they'll return my property, otherwise, "that's definitely unfortunate". Eventually the thief learned that LE wanted nothing to do with it, and about every 6 months or so I am taunted by the person as they rub in my face that they got away with my system and still enjoy it as it's hooked up in their car to this day. Truth be told, the whole experience made me quite bitter over it all, and I have yet to make the decision to go ahead and install a new one in my current vehicle. Although, tbh...it would be pretty vindicating to install one that's 10 times better than my original, so they can be cocky and dumb all they want to, because I have the superior system anyway. Maybe someday soon

I've done 3 systems so far. I'm really starting to get a understanding about the electrical and amp settings though. At first I would throw it all in now I'm taking my time and planning it all out. That's why when my wifes friend asked me to do a complete install I told her I need a cc1 and dd1 so I can better set gain and crossover. I have used a ddm but would perfer the other. I really enjoy your videos. They always make me think about what I can do better and what I havent thought off. Next on My list is learning how to build a speaker box. Keep up the good work. Wish I could find someone with your knowledge to apprentice me.

I have never installed an audio system. And like most of my other projects, of course, I think of a very complicated system. Since I didn't know anything about enclosure sizes or components that are considered for these builds, I have been watching many of these videos the past few days. I have been finding them very helpful. Things that I still have not had answered are things like, "where do I need to be putting each speaker, and in what orientation?" and "what does the actual wiring process look like in the car and the placement of the amps?" I saw some of your videos that were explaining the different locations and orientations for subs and one that explained how to position the tweeters in the a-pillar. It may be due to the fact that I just started looking at videos a few days ago, but I haven't seen much info on anything in between. I would like to if that isn't something you haven't done. I have watched the videos explaining how you chose the size of wires, and how things connect, but I would love to see the process when you are working on the whole system wiring on the car. Like I said before, I thought of a very complex first project. I am planning for my next car build. Even though I don't have the car yet, I like to have a fairly thorough plan before I even purchase the car. One of the aspects of the build was a cool idea, but I realized that, for it work how I want it to, it would require two different sources. And yes, that means separate sound systems. I am definitely okay with hearing some feedback and criticism. However, I will warn you though, all I need is the to be a possibility in order to go through with my projects.

I am starting my 5th system (laying down sound dampening material now). Wanted to confirm my wire sizes, fuse sizes, and pointers as I haven't done a full system in 10 years. Installing a new head unit and 8 speakers plus 2 parallel subs powered by 3 amps in a 4th gen Pontiac Firebird. I am upgrading the OEM alternator to a 145 Amp and wanted to make sure that is enough or if I needed caps. I really appreciate your run through and updated knowledge on equipment as my experience is ancient.

Mark dude! Love the channel brother, I've been a mechanic for 25+ years, spending the last 6 in my own shop building custom cars. This summer I used your content, and Audio Frog's content, to help me design and build a $20K system for a customer's work truck. He loved it so much I'm currently building another system for his 89' Cadillac and I find myself referencing your material again. My sincerest thank you for your contribution to motorsports. Being in Canada It's difficult for me to buy products through you, I hope you can keep producing content man. I enjoy your sense of humour!!

I’ve installed maybe 10 systems.. all in my personal vehicles and a couple friend’s vehicles.. As far as what I’ve installed in my personal vehicles, I started out with MTX audio 12” subwoofers and amplifiers, Pioneer headunit, and Infinity speakers. Then I moved to Rockford Fosgate “Power” amplifiers and 12” Punch HX2 subwoofers.. and ever since it’s been Rockford Fosgate everything I can get.. currently running in my Jeep Wrangler a Pioneer AVEC headunit, Kicker mids, Rockford Fosgate “Power” tweeters, Rockford Fosgate “Power” 400-4 amplifier powering the mids/tweeters through RF crossovers, and Rockford Fosgate “Power” 1500-1bd amplifier powering 2x 12” Rockford Fosgate T1. I’m actually running a 175 amp Tuff Stuff alternator with an Optima red top battery and still need a power cap and likely a second battery. My Mustang has Rockford Fosgate “Power” tweeters and mids and crossovers with a Rockford Fosgate “Power” T500X1bd amp (the super small one) with a Rockford Fosgate 12” T1 Slim in a RF box wired to 1 ohm. My next project will likely be swapping in the 750 amplifier in place of the 500 amp and then adding power RF capacitors to both vehicles.

I’ve done a couple hundred full systems doing it professionally for about 5 years. I’ve never found any throttling or overheated wire going off of 14awg for a couple feet run at around 1500w RMS. I think it’s always safer and cleaner to do larger gauge wire, but realistically speaking 14awg can push a couple of beefier twelves running at 600w rms a piece without current issues. Mind you a couple of feet, talking 3 or 4 feet including dual voice coil wiring inside the box.
