Top end crankset shootout ; Dura Ace 9200, Rotor Aldhu Carbon, Cybrei carbon. Which is best? And has the SL8's creak gone?!

yeah the dura ace look so damn good. the cybrey is a bit wide, i hate the look of it. but the weight is insane.

It was quite a long time ago but Shimano did make a carbon crank, DA FC-7800-C. It was pretty limited in quantity and I don't think they've done another since.

this is true, i do remember seeing it one time, and then never again

A friend of mine could get his hands on this crankset and it is a piece of art. Unfortunately Shimano has design flaws with cranks since the introduction of octalink. My FC-7700 right crank broke in the middle while sprinting causing severe injuries-These cranks are hollow to make them lighter,but water can get in and the oxidation process starts. The carbon models have metal skeletons inside and are glued together.Temperature changes lead to disbanding and we’ve seen severe injuries and some deaths. Their product recall came very late.Buying a used bike everybody should get rid of that toxic waste and buy a new crankset

Reckon you’ll do an in depth review of the Sl8? Keen to hear your deep dive on it

Yeah, just waiting for about 2000km to be able to really assess it. And would like to ride it side bu side with the Ostro too.

Just use a bit of greasy on main crank bold and spline. I have Rotor crankset, for over a year, cleaning and removing it every 2-3 month. No problem.

im looking forward on your ride review of the cybrei crank

I will keep adding comments on my videos about it as I go along. So far so good, but big chainring is touch noisier than normal.

wich tool do you use for the cranckset puller? it seems to be the same as for shimano cassette ring. right? And for the spider ring? I'm trying to ask Cybrei but they don't answer any of my question.
@CyclespeedTours2 ай бұрын
You use a standard Shimano tool to attach the spider to the crank arm, sorry don't have the reference with me. Otherwise standard tools - Torx key for chainring bolts, and biggest Allen key to attach and remove the cranks from the axle.

Yes, no reason why not!

Keep an eye on the big ring shift pins, which can fall out on carbon rings.
@CyclespeedTours2 ай бұрын
OK, but it's an alu/carbon sandwich.

What if you need to change the chain rings? Are you buying it from china?

Any standard 110BCD 4 hole will fit.

I had a THM BB on my THM Crank. High torque out of saddle I’m 85kgs was creaky as f@ck. Binned it off so annoying. I played around with it preload etc and the carbon Ti chainring bolts no luck. Just Went back to DA on a Hambini BB no creaks also looking at the Cybrei cranks as well.
@CyclespeedTours3 ай бұрын
Interesting. Well, in my case it is NOT the BB (or the frame), but the cranks. Going light is often a delicate balance of performance versus price versus reliability. Silence is golden, but DA is just a bit too boring for my tastes....maybe when the creaks finally drive me nuts I will come back to DA with my tail between my legs!!

😂 light parts not great for us slightly heavier guys. I value reliability and no annoying creaks and cracks over weight. The SL8 is still 6.3kgs so cannot grumble. Waiting on some reviews from other on the Cybrei before I part with some cash.

A 2 week delay is ok, after 5 years I'm still waiting for my order from Rotor and they kept my money.

Costs ?
@CyclespeedTours3 ай бұрын
About 700 Euros, a bit cheaper than a Rotor Aldhu, but fairly expensive for a Chinese product.
