Sorry to hear you’ve got a creak again. Always seem to happen to people who know their stuff and really take good care of things. You’ll sort it out 👍

To eliminate creaking from the BB area, just replace whole crank set for couple days...

Andrew it sounds like you are relatively happy with the new bike - we can all safely sleep now - however, you have a noise coming from the crank or pedal now - this weightweenie stuff always has some kind of issue I feel . But anyhow, good luck !

Hi there mate,the problem that u have with the creaking noise i got the solution for it.I got the same crankset rotor aldhu that had the same symptoms and the problems was coming from the chairing that goes on the spines of the axle. All u have to do is to take the chairing out,put some loctite 270,mount the chairing on the axle after u apply the loctite on the splines .Don't use the bike for few hours after that so that loctite can dry properly. This worked for me.
@CyclespeedTours4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, good tips. I know that the Aldhu crankset can be problematic - I suspect it was the cause of many of my creaks on the Ostro. But the strange thing is that the last 3 months on the Ostro were dead quiet, but re-installing it in the SL8 may have 'awoken' something. Loctite is a good one - I used it on the Ostro BB cups. Will try on the Aldhu as well as using PTFE tape on BB threads.

Was the fsa k-force team crankset not an option? As far as i know the cybrei is a dub spindle. 🤔 and how much heavier is the dura ace?
@CyclespeedTours4 ай бұрын
Not keen on the FSA, and yes the Cybrei is a DUB spindle (29mm). It comes with the BB, so no big issue there.Will be doing a full comparison video on DA, Rotor and Cybrei soon.

Have you seen the Aerover bars Andrew? They are about 20 grams lighter than the Roval bar and they do a Titanium computer mount that only weighs 12 grams, I’m just about to build my SL8 with these bars, they do them in 36cm too! Website says out of stock but I messaged them on Instagram and they found a set in my size, arrived in 7 working days with correct SL8 Adapter, they look really nice and the computer mount is lower than the Roval bar.

Yes been looking at these for a while, but as you say, no stock. I think you got lucky! I keep my eye on their website though.

Would you ride a Galfer 140 at the front if possible on the sl8 like the ostro or does the 140 fade/warp on steep downhills? I ride a 140 front sl7 now on the flats and it’s fine.
@CyclespeedTours3 ай бұрын
I tried a 140 front on the Ostro and didn't like it. It lacked bite, and overheating is already an issue on 160 in mountains, so 140 would be even worse. A few guys round here run 140 front, mainly to reduce rub. Weight saving is very small. So for flatfish rides I would say OK, but any kind of hilly stuff, go 160. Interestingly, the SL8 is incapable of taking a 140 front.

Chain ring bolts? I know it sounds like it's coming from the left, but creaks are weird.

This crankset does not have chain ring bolts, it's a 1 piece thing, but there is a union between the rings and the crank - interference fit.

I had Sramn, and Easton cranset, Easton are unacceptably bad quality, purchased the cheapest alu Rotor Vegast 2 x and since march 2023 never dropped chain, or had any chain rubbing (it also accepts 11-12 speed chains and groupsets). Perfect quality, I use it with TIME 2023 frameset.

I use candle wax on my shimano pedals. Just get a normal tea candle and rub it all over pedal (where did you put grease and on those steel pads on pedals), stops all noise coming from pedals and does not attract dirt and dust and last on pedals surprisingly long. Also that electrical tape on those valves looks a bit out of place on such a super bike, get yourself some antiratle valve stickers, but that is just a detail otherwise amazing looking bike.
@CyclespeedTours4 ай бұрын
Good tip thanks, will try, although never had noises from pedals before in many years, so not sure why now?! And you are quite right about the yucky tape on the valve. I have just changed it for a perfectly cut circle!

How is that you go for 360 handlebar? You are very narrow shoulder ?
@CyclespeedTours4 ай бұрын
I am only 1.74m and 65kg, but I really think that a wide handlebar is unnecessary. You almost never turn it (unlike on say a mountain bike).

@myxti36694 ай бұрын
I don't know how cable routing works on the OSTRO, but if you can, check how brake cables are routed. On the supersix gen3 this is a big problem because the hose has to pass through a small canal, pushing the handlebar to one side slightly, making it hard to ride with no hands.

PF86 over bsa anyday (if they can make it round which the industry cannot). Bsa cups make the chainstays pretty skinny and floppy as its such a narrow shell.

with my measly 285w FTP I won't be troubling my chainstays too much!!
@Pablo_Coach3 ай бұрын
@@CyclespeedTours FTP is not really matter in this case. Your sprint/acceleration power is much bigger (maybe 1200-1600W) and then this floppy chainstays will be bent. It's a shame that the Specialized didn't handle the press fit BB properly and used a poor, flimsy threaded BB....
@CyclespeedTours3 ай бұрын
@@Pablo_Coach of course I can make more than 285W in a sprint (thank goodness!), my point being that a pro can make way more than me and they ride the SL8 to victory no problem. Tour magazine tested the SL8 to be extremely stiff where it needs to be, so I don't think there is any problem here.

I was just reading about the complete mess of the bike industry . I think the overinflated prices of frames coming out of Chinese & Taiwanese factories are are staggering. Compounded with many bike brands just sticking their names on a generic frame. When you look at the price of a fully kitted out bike and compare that to something like a Ducati motorcycle which has far more working parts and engineering it makes you wonder.
@CyclespeedTours4 ай бұрын
Very true, bicycle prices make no sense compared to motorbikes. My SL8 is worth more than my Ducati Hpermotard 950 and there is SO much more to the Ducati. I guess it comes down to volumes and that hand built carbon parts are very expensive to produce.

I had a THM bottom bracket and the crank as well. But I sold it as when I was doing any climbing out of the saddle putting through some torque through it just used to creak like mad on both my SL7 and the 8. Plus also @85kg not heavy but not a feather weight rider. So gave up and have put in a Hambini bottom bracket and gone back to the DA crank this will hopefully sort it out.
