MyHackrifice If you are going to do this, make sure you have a slower drop time(3+ seconds) so that you don't need to apply as much force to keep it upside down. If you have the time, just decrease the telescoping pole enough to keep it upside down.

The monopod version does NOT have a max load of 7.5kg. I emailed them and they pointed me to the link on their website that states that the monopod version has a max load of 2.6kg (5.7lbs). The smaller one has a max load of 10kg (22lbs). I believe that the 7.5kg number came from the max load for the arm. The arm's load is 1kg-7.5kg. In your experience is this true? How does the stabilizer feel when you go over the max load?

I use the monocam with Sony a6000, works great but needed to be adjusted. I have replaced the gimbal oil with Teflon based WD 40 specialist. The original oil is too heavy and causes unwanted sideways motion. As well I glued the top of the plate to the carbon fiber top to secure it better. It was not tight enough. After modifications works perfect, out of the box was not usable due to gimbal oil problem. Most Chinese products use too heavy oil.

Indeed there are some better features to the lighter Came stabilizer than there is to the GlideCam, including the carbon fiber build, quick release plate, detailed markings, and mono pod extension. However, when it comes to buying products from less known companies online, all kinds of reviews emerge and I become indecisive, because after all, someone is selling a brand to me. I'm on the verge of going for the GlideCam or possibly the Came. If I could demo both, that'd be a lot better and I could be saving myself tons of research time and headaches! But the chances of that happening as a near-broke college student are very slim. Ha!

On the 10 mm lens I didn't have to worry about focus, but with the 20mm or specially 50mm lens I did. So I would setup my focus to a certain distance and then I had to make sure to keep that same distance between me and the subject.

Hi Tom. I really like to see a critical review of stabilizer from somebody. Everybody is testing with wide angle objektiv. Testing gear, cars, computer, tech.accessories, etc..the products will be pushed to their maximum under extreme circumstances. Wide angle objektiv is warping twitchy moves so it cannot be good for a critical test. Take 50mm or at least or 85mm and then you can real compare two different stabilizers. Under normal working situation you will never do this, but it is not working situation test, it is a stabilizer test. For all the rest of your work I am your grateful follower learning so much from you.

Thank you for the review, you've helped me make my decision. I was going to purchase a Glidecam HD 2000 but for $200 less It looks like this should work just as well and appears to be easier to balance. Combine that with the fact that the kit includes a quick release plate, a carrying bag, all the tools and can be used as a monopod it seems like a no brainer.

True... stabilizers allow you to quickly move around and come up with new shots... BUT if you ever want a moving shot with a LONG lens. Like a 200mm then you have to use a dolly. Steadicams don't work well with long telephoto lenses.
@JavTheRipper

Tom Antos I have been debating whether I should buy a slider or stabilizer. I want to do some moving stuff and don't want to carry around too much gear, but I also want really steady side to side footage. May you please explain why steadicams don't work well with long lenses? I am going to get some telephoto lenses in the near future
@fideliuswy4853
@fideliuswy4853 8 жыл бұрын
+Jav The Ripper All steadycams oscillate like a pendulum, but that oscillation is very subtle and almost unnoticeable (when the stabilizer is well balanced) when using wide lenses. Narrow lenses make noticeable those oscilations due to an aplification effect.
